There were plenty of great games and impressive trailers at the State of Play 2026. For MeinMMO author Ody, however, the highlight of the event was actually an indie horror game. After all these years, it could have been a real system seller for the PS5 – luckily, the game will also be available on Steam as well.
If Jurassic Park can no longer deliver, others must step in: Actually, Jurassic Park: Survival is already in the works as a first-person horror game where we have to hide from the dinos. However, there has been radio silence regarding the game for a long time – when it will be released is still unclear.
Now there is a new trailer for The Lost Wild, which seems to be similar in premise – just without the familiar JP license. And after watching the new trailer, I couldn’t stop marveling.

I would even buy a PS5 for this game – if I had to
Since this trailer was shown at the State of Play, which is a digital event by Sony, I was initially sure that the game was a PS5 exclusive title. In my mind, I had already come to terms with the idea that after all these years, I would have to buy a PS5.
Sure, the PS5 already has some games that can be classified as system sellers – but my personal one would have been The Lost Wild. Fortunately, the game will also be released for PC on Steam and in the Epic Games Store.
So, my bank account can breathe a sigh of relief again. But what makes the game so special that it almost sold me a PS5?
In The Lost Wild, we explore an abandoned research facility as Saskia. Overall, this is a classic setting for such dino horror. What really convinced me were mainly two things: the graphics and the behavior of the animals shown so far.
The Lost Wild looks devilishly good, and that in every corner. The environments – be they the ruins of buildings or forest clearings – feel really atmospheric. I can hardly wait to tense up and look around with every step, wondering if something is rustling somewhere.
Moreover, the designs of the dinosaurs look so good, it’s almost criminal. As a complete paleo nerd, I am fascinated by how realistic the animals look. And that makes them even creepier in my opinion.
Not monsters, but real animals – still frightening
According to the Game Director Gary Napper, the dinos are supposed to not only look real but also behave realistically. This is emphasized in the PlayStation.Blog.
From the beginning, our goal was to create a world where dinosaurs are not portrayed as monsters but as believable animals.

Napper was also the lead designer for Alien: Isolation. The behavior of the Xenomorph in that game was one of the aspects that made it such a unique horror experience. The Lost Wild could therefore become a sort of Alien: Isolation, but with dinos. Napper explains that his work on Isolation has profoundly shaped his approach to horror design.
Players are supposed to be encouraged to study the behavior of individual dinos – how they react to sounds, move, and more. You cannot kill the dinos, but you are not entirely defenseless either. At least the smaller ones can be scared away with the right items. However, whether this works on a large Allosaurus is questionable.
The giant flying dinosaur seen in the trailer (by the way, not a dino but a close relative of the dinos) already terrifies me the most. The mere thought of a killer stork the size of a giraffe galloping towards me to swallow me whole makes me feel dizzy. This is definitely a fear I have never had before, one that I cannot shake off now.
The Lost Wild is set to be released in 2027, but unfortunately there is no specific timeframe yet. I can hardly wait – even if I will probably spend most of the time in the game quietly whimpering on the pause screen.

Another highlight of the State of Play was the new God of War, from which the first gameplay was revealed. One character, however, is heavily debated: One thing in the new God of War Laufey players already love, but a talking dice is a hot topic
