At the big Disney event, D23, a new trailer for one of the beloved action RPGs by MeinMMO editor Nikolas Hernes was finally unveiled, and he is already looking forward to a story that will be total nonsense.
The D23 took place. This is an event about everything related to Disney. Besides announcements for upcoming movies like Coco 2 or fresh info on Avengers: Doomsday, there was also a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4, and I couldn’t be happier.
There was already an initial look at the action RPG during a Nintendo Direct in early June, whose last installment was released in 2019, and this time there was even a release timeframe: late 2027.
And this trailer showcases everything you can expect from Kingdom Hearts 4 and what I love about the series.

Oh Mickey, don’t say that
What does the trailer show? First, you see one of the new worlds in the game, which is from the movie Coco, showcasing the main character Sora in the appropriate style. Additionally, there are small gameplay snippets that show spectacular attacks with characters from the movie. This is also one of the best points about Kingdom Hearts: You can explore Disney and Pixar worlds that you loved as a child (or young adult).
Especially Coco fits in very well, considering how the series deals with death and resurrection. Overall, it also looks exciting how they adorn the gameplay with the visual identity of Coco, and I was right back in it.
But not only these elements are really strong in the trailer. For the first time in the series, you can also play as Goofy, Donald, and Mickey directly. In a longer trailer (via YouTube), you can see them fighting in Hades’ underworld to find Sora, who seems to have landed in a world that looks like the real one.
That’s a good keyword, because Mickey says in the trailer: That’s a lot of new information
. I already know that this will be total nonsense again, and I am so ready for it.

Such an absurd story, that you have to love it
What is the story of Kingdom Hearts about? I love Kingdom Hearts, but the story has always been total nonsense. It’s about Heartless, multiple layers of time and space, and somehow it’s always about friendship as well. This can all be told simply, but Kingdom Hearts takes such impressive detours with games that look like spin-offs but are totally relevant to the main story.
This is nonsense and incredibly convoluted, but that’s exactly what I love about the series. The premise itself is already absurd when you consider that Disney is mixed with Final Fantasy to create a completely different universe.
This nonsense seems to be present again in part 4; after all, Sora seems to be somewhere entirely different than Donald and Goofy, but he sees them as ghosts – all confusing and incredibly great.
That’s what makes it incredibly fun when you don’t take everything seriously. I love many of the Disney worlds and also the combat system (which unfortunately wasn’t as strong in 3 as in 2). At its core, there is indeed a loving story hidden behind all the chaos. Yes, it’s incredibly cheesy and totally anime
, but that’s exactly what I loved as a child and still enjoy today.
What do you think of Kingdom Hearts and did you like the new trailer? Feel free to write it to us in the comments. I spent a lot of time on the first part of the series because I wanted to have the best sword. However, one mistake messed everything up: I haven’t touched one of my favorite action RPGs for years because I accidentally deleted a legendary weapon after 60 hours
