The new season of Path of Exile 2 is just around the corner, and we will summarize the most important points for you.
When does it start? Path of Exile 2 launches on May 29, 2026, at 10:00 PM German time for the new season Return of the Ancients. This is expected to be the last season before the full release of the ARPG on Steam. Currently, PoE2 is still in Early Access.
Anyone who does not yet own Path of Exile 2 can be excited: The developers have announced a Free Weekend on Steam for the release weekend. Anyone who wants to can therefore play through the new season without any obligation.

Focus on Endgame
What is changing? The developers of Path of Exile 2 have focused their last season before the release fully on the endgame. Here, the way players experience the game’s end fundamentally changes.
This is because the developers have added quests that are designed to guide players through the endgame world in line with the new fixed locations on the endgame map. At the same time, players are expected to dominate the world less randomly and instead complete new skill trees without the need for difficult choices.
In addition to many Quality of Life
changes, there are also two new expansion classes:
- The Martial Artist belongs to the Monk and focuses on illusions, rune-based spells, and unarmed melee combat. The class of choice for Chef Jonathan Rogers.
- The Spirit Walker belongs to the Ranger and connects with the wilderness, enhancing her combat abilities through the primal spirits of animals.
What does the new season bring? While the endgame represents the overall version change, there is also a new season known as the PoE2 league that deals with rune crafting. With the runes of Aldur, you will repeatedly find rune stones that allow you to craft items.
However, crafting awakens enemies around you, meaning you will have to endure increasingly tougher battles to craft better items. You should be able to continuously improve your items, which can make your character significantly stronger earlier in the game.
