The head of Path of Exile 2 reveals to MeinMMO in an interview what he wants to play next season, and his choice could upset the community.
Who is it about? Jonathan Rogers is the head of Path of Exile 2 and Grinding Gear Games. During a press presentation for the new expansion Return of the Ancients, starting on May 29, 2026, we took the opportunity to ask the boss what he plans to play next season.
Here you can see the trailer for the new season of Path of Exile 2:
Melee without a new class
What will the boss play? Before he wanted to answer the question, Rogers first provided an explanation. This time, so much is changing that there hasn’t been enough extensive testing, which is why the season will start a little later.
He himself will clearly go for the melee class. More specifically, he wants to try out the new expansion class of the Martial Artist. In the past, both heads, Jonathan Rogers and Mark Roberts, have always stated that they would play a bit outside the meta to see how the balancing truly works.
What kind of new expansion class is that? Many fans had hoped beforehand that the developers would finally introduce swords and the corresponding class with the new expansion. However, the only major innovation in melee remains the Martial Artist.
The expansion class for the Monk creates illusions that allow the Monk’s abilities to repeat like an echo. Spectral bells will smash enemies and create devastating resonances when a critical hit is landed.
At the same time, the Monk’s body receives tattoos with which runes can be directly tattooed into the body. Additionally, there are new bonus effects from the equipment that the Martial Artist wears.
Which class do you want to play and try out in the new season? Feel free to write it in the comments.
