MeinMMO editor Beendict Grothaus gives you some personal tips in the Steam Summer Sale 2026 with games that have remained in his mind even after a long time.
Against the Storm (95 % positive)
It is hard for me to write a list of deals and tips without mentioning Against the Storm. In the roguelite city builder, you fight against a constantly recurring storm that destroys everything you build.
The eternal fight against the storm is divided into individual rounds or settlements, each differing in starting conditions, difficulties, map features, and possible building options.
Against the Storm is brutally difficult and yet my comfort game and a game that I recommend to just about everyone over and over – each time with success and people thanking me for it.
The Binding of Isaac or Rebirth (97 % positive)
Since we are on the subject of roguelites: The Binding of Isaac is probably the most well-known roguelite or roguelike of modern times. It is one of the few games in the “God tier” on Steam.
You play as Isaac in a rather disturbing story of domestic violence and the search for love that a mother refused to give. Behind the already merciless gameplay lies a story that hits just as hard. My colleague Niko has already spent 200 hours in The Binding of Isaac.
- The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is available on Steam for €1.49 instead of €14.99
- You can get the entire bundle with all DLCs for €4.81.
Don’t Starve (96 % positive)
Ironically, starving in Don’t Starve is probably one of the least likely causes of death. The seemingly simple survival game, which now also has a co-op version, requires a fair amount of survival skill.
You choose a character with unique advantages and disadvantages and are then sent into a world full of monsters, dangers, and horror. Your goal: not to starve and somehow escape.
What makes Don’t Starve special is both the hand-drawn design and the choice of acoustic accompaniment. All characters are not “voiced”, but represented by instruments.
- Don’t Starve is currently €2.04 instead of €8.19 on Steam
- Don’t Starve Together, the co-op version, costs €1.49 instead of €14.99 and includes an extra copy for a friend.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 (94 % positive)
One of the perhaps most important role-playing games of all time. Divinity: Original Sin 2 made the masterpiece Baldur’s Gate 3 possible. Developer Larian has garnered acclaim in the cRPG genre through the series and has made a name for itself.
In Divinity: Original Sin 2, you play a source wizard who is damned and pursued just for his very existence. With a free class system, you shape your own character and experience a story of divinity and fate.
As an RPG, Divinity: Original Sin 2 naturally offers companions whose stories you can follow and with whom you can flirt. Each character (“Origin”) is also playable – which is especially recommended for the first playthrough to miss less story. The game also has co-op.
Especially Divinity: Original Sin 2, but also Divinity 2: Ego Draconis – which is also on sale – are among my personal top recommendations, as they prepare you ideally for the upcoming Divinity.
Valiant Hearts: The Great War (94 % positive)
One of the most emotional games I have ever played, and that, even if the graphic style might not suggest it. Valiant Hearts tells the intertwined story of soldiers, medics, and civilians in World War I.
The gameplay mainly consists of solving puzzles and focuses more on the narrative, not on action. Valiant Hearts is fully voiced in German.
I don’t want to spoil too much, but World War I is not without reason considered one of the most devastating events in human history. Be prepared for terrible, beautiful, and bittersweet moments alike.
Have you already jumped in? Which games from the list can you recommend? What are you missing? Feel free to leave a comment!
Sales on Steam are always a reason to spend money, even when you don’t really “need” the games – a pile of shame indeed. Nevertheless, many gamers treat themselves to a few games every now and then, occasionally with great savings: Player makes a big splash during the summer sale on Steam, ends up saving €1,800 – community praises him for his game selection
