On July 9 at 7:00 PM German time, the summer promotion on Steam ends. Here you can find games that look great even in a Pile of Shame.
During the Steam Summer Sale, dozens of games are on offer, some for under one Euro. But which of them are really worth it? After all, a wise user once said: You don’t always have to spend money just because it’s cheap.
Therefore, I took a look at which games are currently at an all-time low, meaning they are as cheap as they’ve ever been, or at least never cheaper, and have a rating of over 90% positive reviews.
To avoid overwhelming the list, I made a small preliminary selection, especially since some games meeting these criteria are niche games with very few players or fans, or are not available in Germany at all. I’ve got a few personal tips along with a big highlight to share.
The highlight is one of the best survival games of all time
Valheim was a phenomenon at release in 2021: an indie game from Sweden that attracted hundreds of thousands of players in no time, even though it wasn’t even finished. It quickly became one of the best survival games ever.
As a fallen Viking, you fight in the mysterious world of Valheim against the enemies of the Allfather Odin, gather resources, build your own longhouse, and craft equipment for epic battles against bosses.
On September 9, Valheim will be released as a full 1.0 version with a new biome and a free update. Currently, you can still get the game in the sale at the best price of 9.99 Euros.
These top games on Steam have never been cheaper
Besides Valheim, you will find more top deals in the Steam sale, including:

- Torchlight 2 (93% positive) is another challenger to Diablo but opts for a colorful, quirky steampunk world in a comic style instead of dark Gothic horror. On Steam you can get it for 3.79 instead of 18.99 Euros.
- In A Plague Tale: Innocence (93% positive), you play in France during the time of the Great Plague. Here, you experience the story of two siblings trying to survive. For the story epic, you currently pay 3.99 instead of 39.99 Euros.
- The Stanley Parable (94% positive) is… a game. Only who the player is remains somewhat unclear. The not-so-serious yet deathly serious game frequently breaks the fourth wall and presents you with impossible yet childishly easy tasks. Just be Stanley. Currently costs 7.69 instead of 21.99 Euros.
- Lies of P (93% positive) is one of the newer (and pricier) titles on the list and a soulslike with a special twist: you play as Pinocchio in an alternative version of Geppetto’s story, and are often confronted with the question of what it means to be human. Lies of P currently costs 29.99 instead of 59.99 Euros.
- The 2D side-scroller LIMBO (93% positive) may look like a simple casual game but carries a tragic and dark story. In the end, you are merely searching for your sister, but those who know what the ‘limbo’ is may have an inkling of why the game feels so heavy. Strong emotions guaranteed. You can get LIMBO for 1.14 instead of 11.49 Euros.
- In Dishonored (97% positive), you play an assassin with supernatural abilities on a quest for revenge against betrayal and intrigue. A mix of stealth, action, and adventure for 1.99 instead of 19.99 Euros.

On the next page, I have five more games with top ratings, to which I have a personal bond so strong that they deserve special mention.
