The greatest strength of Star Wars: The Old Republic is its stories. Especially the class stories still excite many years after the release. But fans fear that there will be no more.
Why are the stories so good? If Star Wars: The Old Republic can do one feature well, it’s its stories. Countless hours of fully voiced tales with individual decision-making power over the outcome were already a selling point at release.
Especially at the beginning, the MMORPG shines with a gripping story, and each individual class has a different one. This allows hundreds of hours to be spent in the 8 different class stories, which then culminate in the shared main story.
But for years, the story of Star Wars: The Old Republic has only followed the main thread – completely without differences between the classes. Fans find it a shame in a post on Reddit, but fear that a sequel will probably never come.
Here you can see how SW:TOR has changed:
Too elaborate and expensive
Why have there been no new class stories for years? Many years ago, the MMORPG decided to move away from individual stories. Not only were they merged, but the voice actors for the characters were also eliminated, so that each character now only has one male and one female voice – previously there was more choice.
The reason for this is clear: the costs are massive. Moreover, the game has also moved further away from the original stories in recent years. There is simply no point at which, as a savior of the galaxy, one suddenly fulfills missions for one’s own side again.
Additionally, the power and tech classes are increasingly aligning, which may make the developers’ work easier, but also brings the MMORPG further away from extremely different characters.
What do the fans think about it? Fans know that their wishes will be difficult to implement. Their comments on Reddit show that although they would be happy about it, they fear it will never happen:
- Renstarbog: “Maybe a controversial opinion, but we will never get class-specific story content again – at least not at the pace at which story is currently released. The scope of the game no longer allows for that […].”
- DogShackFishFood: “Buddy, the latest story segment suggests that there won’t even be differences between tech and force-sensitive classes anymore.”
- DaCipherTwelve: “That would require individual stories and a greater variety of dialogues. That means multiples of the budget they currently have.”
- Redstorm8373: “If class-specific content comes at all, we might see something like on Rishi, where there was a single, short class-specific quest. Even that is extremely unlikely. Much more likely would be, for example, a conversation that picks up on previous actions. Since KOTFE/KOTET has unified the game, class differences hardly play a role in the story anymore. Even the distinction between force users and non-force users is largely irrelevant to the plot.”
- SanguinePlvit: “Not going to happen. It’s too expensive to produce and offers too little return.”
What do you think? Do you believe Star Wars: The Old Republic will return to class stories with the upcoming version 8.0 or do you think that is unlikely? Feel free to write it in our comments. What we can look forward to in the new version, the developers have already hinted at: First, the MMORPG to Star Wars thrilled its fans with the finale, now the developers reveal how it will continue
