Blizzard has tinkered with the items in Diablo 4 with Season 14, much to the dismay of many players. One of the best among them has to play completely without Mythics in the brutally hard Hardcore SSF mode and is not particularly happy about it.
Since Season 14, there is the “Solo Self-Found” mode, a mode for all loners who want to manage completely without the help of other players. You can only carry and use items that you have found yourself – no trading, no gifts.
Together with the already hard Hardcore mode, where your character only has one life (“Permadeath”), this results in a gameplay variant that is harder than anything Diablo 4 has offered so far.
On Reddit, the player Octavian showcases his achievement: He is ranked 1 on the leaderboard for Hunters on PS5 in the Tower, according to the in-game leaderboard he is ranked 9 across all platforms (as of June 6, 2026, at 1:15 PM). In his post, which has quickly become the largest in the subreddit, Octavian primarily complains about one thing: the new items.
“Can’t see how this was intended”
The problem is the revised Mythics from Season 14. Blizzard has tinkered with the items in the new season. Mythical items are no longer iconic items with special names, but rather a new rarity tier with more and supposedly better affixes.
Even before the release of the season, players criticized this decision and Blizzard has even made adjustments. Now, after the start, it seems to be even worse, as getting any Mythics appears to be a chore:
I have played this season for 46 hours and I am Paragon 252. […] I can’t comfortably farm on Torment 12 or complete most activities on Torment 10. This is a bummer.
The mechanics make it impossible for regular players to get these items they are hunting for. It’s a single-player game and there are already hacked items in the leaderboards of other classes. Who cares if someone is having fun? […] I can’t see how the devs could have intended something like this.

The player writes that he has found a mythical item, but it is completely useless for him. Getting more is almost impossible, as sources like the mythical tribute runs from the undercity have been heavily nerfed.
Others agree and say: Even in groups, it is hard to find significant quantities of strong items. Mythics should actually be the best items in the game, but the revision has made them rather useless.
Even with guaranteed drops like from the season journey, the number of possible Mythics is now so large that the likelihood of getting a suitable one is minuscule.
Have you found a Mythic yet? What do you think of the revision? Feel free to leave us a comment!
The criticism of the “Mythic 3.0” system is also strongly present in other threads on Reddit and is currently the most prominent, often the only criticism of Diablo 4. There are also discussions about the Hardcore mode itself: Diablo 4 offers a mode for particularly tough players, but they say: This ARPG isn’t made for that
