With “Mythics 3.0”, Blizzard has revised the mythic items in Diablo 4. This has caused massive criticism in the community.
Changes made to the Mythics:
- In Season 14, “Mythic” is no longer a rarity level, but an item quality. Every Unique can become mythic.
- You craft them at the Horadrim Cube from Uniques and the seasonal currency “Fragments of Madness”.
- The targeted crafting of certain legendary Mythics at the Jeweler has been removed. Only random Mythics can be found there. Random legendary Mythics are available at the Blacksmith.
- Legendary Mythics have two fixed affixes. The other two stats are random.
- You can re-roll affixes on Uniques and Mythics at the Occultist. Added values on Mythics are always Max-Roll.
- You can equip as many Mythic drops as you want, but can only carry a single crafted Mythic.
Players are currently criticizing nearly all changes. The reason: Mythic items depend even more on randomness (RNG) now. Many see the system as a downgrade. One player has roughly calculated the chances of getting perfect gear.
“Perfect Gear is Nearly Impossible”
Where does the player see the problem? According to a Reddit post, it is mathematically almost impossible to get perfect gear in Season 14. Too many coincidences must align for that:
- From the vast pool of all Uniques, exactly the right item must drop.
- The Unique must either be directly mythic or can be upgraded to the right Mythic in the Horadrim Cube.
- The values on the item must match. At least two of them must fit perfectly with the build.
The chance for the two right values, the player estimates at just 0.121%. According to him, only about one in 220,000 drops is the perfect item. Important to know: The user does not provide exact mathematical formulas in his post.
His conclusion: Even if someone farms for ten years, 12 hours a day, it is mathematically hardly possible to equip their character perfectly. He criticizes especially the removed targeted crafting at the Jeweler.
The user LoquatPositive7061 adds another point of criticism. The crafted Mythics from the Blacksmith and Jeweler also bear the “Crafted” tag. They count as the one allowed crafted item. This complicates gear assembly because the remaining pieces must drop.
Expert says: Finding the most important Mythic will be easy
Is there anything positive about Mythics 3.0? Not everyone sees only dark here. The user Zemerick13 believes that the chances for good gear are not so bad and points out the following:
- All Uniques have two static affixes. These are usually the best values.
- Mythics always roll with maximum values. This makes almost every fitting Mythic immediately usable.
- You can enchant an affix and it still retains the guaranteed Max-Roll.
Even the Diablo expert wudijo sees advantages. The new crafting helps to at least make the most important Mythic for the player’s build quickly ready. Moreover, players who previously only wore Mythics for a single strong value benefit. Now, other useful stats can randomly be found or enchanted (source: YouTube).
