How much loot is too much loot? For Diablo 4, this answer apparently lies somewhere between 399 and 2,401 Goblins (yes, that is an accepted unit of measurement for loot). A player found this out when he wanted to farm absurd amounts of loot using a trick.
The player FP took advantage of one of the buffs from the new war plans from Diablo 4 to literally kill thousands of the rare loot Goblins. In a video on YouTube, he shows what that looks like.
The procedure is quite simple, you just need a bit of patience and the perk “Challenge” under the Nightmare dungeon section of the war plans. With the talent, enemies you kill under the influence of a strengthening altar will respawn after a while. FP explains the process like this:
- Farm Nightmare dungeons until you get one with the affix for more shrines. The best way to do this is via the war plans, as you don’t need keys here (and additionally farm loot at the same time).
- Reset the dungeon as many times as you need until you find the Goblin “Syrus of Gelatin” (engl. “Gelatinous Syrus”). This Goblin splits into two additional Goblins upon death, and does so twice.
- Defeat Syrus and his copies under the influence of a shrine and look for the next shrine.
- Activate this shrine immediately after the first buff has expired – timing is important here so you can kill all Goblins with the new buff.
By the way, FP is playing a Whirlwind Barbarian in the video, one of the strongest builds for Diablo 4 Season 13.
Diablo 4 also treats the “smaller” versions of Syrus as his “big” variant, according to FP, causing a total of 7 (1+2+4) new Goblins to spawn each time. Nightmare dungeons are already one of the best war plan activities, and this farming method makes them even better. The player repeated this four times (7x7x7x7=2,401), but he doesn’t recommend doing that amount.
Too much loot apparently makes it so that you can’t pick it up anymore
According to FP and as seen in the video, at some point the loot simply “disappears.” Loot whose names can be seen suddenly doesn’t appear anymore, and FP can’t pick it up – not even with the appropriate settings in the loot filter.
In the end, he was left with only set spells for the talisman, which he collected and disenchanted in the Horadrim cube with exactly 10,000 dust. Since each seal grants 25 dust, FP suspects that the maximum amount of loot on the ground is 400 items.
That Syrus counts as the same entity with each of his copies is probably not intended and it’s possible that Blizzard will soon fix this farming method or even consider it an exploit. After all, this whole thing is apparently gamebreaking
. Similarly, the currently possible immortality looks to be the same: A change in Diablo 4 makes you nearly immortal, but those who want to use it must be quick
