With the second expansion, Diablo 4 has finally received a loot filter that allows you to search for items specifically. You can find out where to find it and how to set it up here on MeinMMO.
What is the loot filter? The loot filter has been demanded by the community since the release and is finally in the game. With the filter, you can selectively hide, show, or color code equipment items. This applies to your inventory, the loot chest, and the offerings at merchants.
The filter came with “Lord of Hatred,” but it is a feature for the base game – you don’t need to own the DLC to use it.
Finding and activating the loot filter in Diablo 4
Where do I find the loot filter in Diablo 4? You can find the loot filter in the game menu under “Options” in the “Gameplay” tab. There you have the option to open the loot filter directly. You can also check a box in the row above so that the loot filter is displayed directly in the menu. After that, you can easily access the loot filter through the game menu.
Under “Controls”, you can also assign a key to toggle the filter on and off. This is especially useful to check if the filter is working correctly or to briefly see and pick up all drops on the ground.
How do I use the loot filter in Diablo 4? In the filter menu, you have two options: You can either create a completely new filter or import a filter using a specific code. Existing filters can also be adjusted anytime by adding or editing rules and conditions.
Loot filter: Setting rules and conditions
This is how you create loot filters: First, you assign a name to help you keep track if you want to switch between different filters later. Then you add rules (a maximum of 25 per filter), which you can activate or deactivate individually. The rules are weighted from top to bottom. You can change the order at any time, duplicate rules, or delete them.
You can then assign various conditions to the rules.

You have a total of ten different conditions to choose from. Once you set conditions, you should determine the visibility. In the top right, you can set how the loot filter should work exactly: You can either show or hide items, color them in your desired color, or hide the text label.
The following conditions can be set:
- Item power range
- Rarity level (magic to mythical + talisman sets)
- Item properties (none or “empowered”)
- Codex upgrade
- Major affixes (at least 1–4)
- Item type (e.g., two-handed sword, chest armor, amulet)
- Specific affixes
- Optional affixes
- Specific uniques
- Talisman set bonus
Note that an item must meet all the defined conditions of a rule for the filter to apply. If you want to share your settings with others, you can easily export the filter with a click on the three dots next to the filter name.
You can set up multiple filters, but only one can be active at a time. If you have set up a filter with many rules, you can deactivate individual rules by removing the checkmarks to farm more specifically.

Should I set up the loot filter right away? At the beginning of your journey, almost every loot is useful, whether for direct improvement or for disassembling at the blacksmith to obtain important materials. A filter is not needed here yet. However, at the latest in the endgame, the loot filter helps significantly to filter loot and only pick up what you really need.
In addition to the loot filter, the update has brought many other innovations to the ARPG.
