Thanks to the loot filter, you have to pick up fewer items in Diablo 4, but you will be flooded with a currency for which you should buy items.
What is currently dropping in masses? In Diablo 4, Obols are practically raining down. With this currency, you can gamble for items at the Curiosities Dealer by selecting a category and paying. However, the maximum is 2,500 Obols, which is reached extremely quickly.
On Reddit, players report having to teleport multiple times from a Nightmare Dungeon back to town to spend their Obols. Especially dungeon affixes that grant additional Obols fill the Obol supply really quickly.
While Blizzard has already raised the limits for other resources, the limit here has stagnated for many seasons. Moreover, players feel that gambling is hardly worth it anymore.
Obols are now considered worthless
In a thread on Reddit, the community discusses that gambling at the dealer is hardly worth it anymore. In the past, it was sometimes the best way to quickly get strong gear, but that has changed. Since Lord of Hatred, the Horadrim Cube is the much better choice, as it allows for a much more targeted search for needed items.
This has to do with the loot filter: With the loot filter, you can specifically hide, show, or color-code items. This is meant to help you keep track while farming and get faster access to suitable items.
While you are picking up less “trash,” you still have to constantly spend your Obols to avoid leaving anything behind. This means specifically: You fill your inventory with items from the gambler and painstakingly search through them for anything useful. For many players, the teleporting, gambling, and sorting disrupts the flow of the game and keeps them from the actual monster slaying.
