The well-known streamer Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt is currently taking an involuntary break from Twitch. He has been banned. During this time, he is using the opportunity to get his house in order. He is showing his progress on X, formerly Twitter.
What is the cleanup action about? Asmongold is currently organizing his house. The chaos in which the Twitch streamer lives suited his image of a classic MMORPG nerd who never leaves the house for a while, but it increasingly seemed concerning.
Even Asmongold himself has realized that this cannot continue and has repeatedly stated that his life is totally messed up. In the past, he made attempts to create order, but these efforts apparently had no long-term success.

Asmongold is fighting against chaos
This is the current situation: Since mid-October 2024, the streamer has been back in cleanup mode. The necessary kick in the behind was probably the ban from Twitch, which Asmongold received on October 15 for inhumane statements about the Gaza War.
In doing so, the Twitch streamer announced that he consciously would not hire a cleaning crew, as his colleague xQc had done: 27-year-old millionaire streams while cleaning staff tidy up his garbage room, feels ashamed.
Asmongold, who describes himself as an atheist but was raised Catholic, sees the cleanup action as an atonement; he wants to take responsibility for his mistakes, as he explained in a statement on YouTube.
Through the involuntary streaming break, the content creator seems to be expressing his need to communicate now on X, formerly Twitter.
Asmongold cleans up – also in his community
What does Asmongold have to say? In several posts on X, the Twitch streamer shows the progress of his cleaning action. The kitchen already shines with new splendor, the living room is tidy, and boxes are waiting to be donated (via X).
However, some comments from Asmongold seem to indicate that he not only wants to clean up his home but also his community, which has become increasingly difficult over the years.
He publicly spoke out against an “anti-woke” podcast in which the term “Spear chucker” was used. This is a derogatory term for people of African descent.
The YouTuber Mightykeef shared the relevant excerpt. “This is not a constructive comment or criticism. It is simply racist for the sake of being racist.” Such statements should not be tolerated by YouTube.
Asmongold replied: “Although Spear chucker is not one of the ‘mainstream’ racist slurs, it is quite frequently used by advanced racism connoisseurs. The comment was tasteless and obviously racist.”
In doing so, Asmongold is positioning himself against exactly those people with whom he had teamed up until recently in the ongoing culture war in the USA, to pounce on indie games, journalists, and Twitch streamers. Not everyone believes his sudden change of heart.
When asked by a user where he knows all of this from, the streamer explained that he has been on the internet for over 20 years and knows every single racist slur, every “dog whistle,” and every derogatory term that has ever been invented for a group of people.
However, younger people often do not know such meanings, which is why Asmongold stated that he wrote the comment for “educational purposes.”
To another user, who could hardly believe that Asmongold is expressing himself on racism after having used terms like “inferior culture,” the streamer replied, “Wouldn’t that make me an expert?”
Under a post about the current Prince of Persia, which has apparently fallen short of expectations, Asmongold blamed the publishing strategy for the game’s failure and stated: “‘Woke’ content or its absence can make a bad game worse or a good game better, but it cannot make a good game bad or a bad game good.” (via X)
