In Elden Ring, you can start the Ranni quest to unlock many rewards and a secret ending. You can find all quest steps here in our overview, so you don’t miss anything.
What is the Ranni quest? This is one of many side quests that you receive from Ranni the witch. It is one of the longest and most complicated quests in the game, but rewards players with important items and secrets that can help you on your journey through the Lands Between.
Is the quest important? The Ranni quest is entirely optional and not necessary to complete a playthrough of Elden Ring. However, if you want to collect all items, weapons, and armor, you should undertake the quest. Additionally, completing the quest will also trigger the secret ending “Age of Stars,” which rewards you with a trophy.
We will now list all steps of the Ranni quest chronologically, but if you’re just looking for individual steps, feel free to jump to them using our directory:

Finding Ranni – First meeting with Renna
To start the Ranni quest, you need to visit the witch early on in your journey at the Church of Elleh. After making a deal with Melina at the Site of Grace “Before the Gate,” you teleport to the church.
Once there, you will hear her calling you from the broken walls of the church. Speak to Ranni, who is pretending to be the witch Renna and responds with “I can summon the spectral steed.”
During your conversation, you will receive the Spirits Calling Bell and the ashes of the lonely wolves. After exhausting all dialogues, Ranni disappears into the wind.
The second meeting with Ranni
The next location of Ranni is north of Liurnia in Ranni’s Tower. To find the tower, you must fight your way through the Caria estate and defeat the Royal Knight Loretta.
After the battle, follow the path southwest past the Glintstone Dragon Adula until you reach Ranni’s Tower. Climb the tower until you see her. Speak to her and do not give any special reason for your visit.
She will be fascinated by you and offer you to enter her service. Accept her request. Now you need to speak with Ranni’s followers Iji, Blaidd, and Seluvis in Ranni’s Tower until all dialogue options are exhausted.
After speaking with everyone, go back to Ranni and have a concluding conversation where she informs you that she is now going to rest for a time. Your task now is to find the hidden treasure of Nokron, the Eternal City, with Blaidd.
Defeating Radahn
To gain access to Nokron, you first need to defeat Starcaller Radahn, who is located behind Castle Redmane. You will only gain access to this fight after speaking with Iji at the Site of Grace “Road to the Estate” about Nokron. After the conversation, head to Caelid at the Site of Grace “Impassable Great Bridge” and use the teleporter there.
Upon arriving at the castle, follow the path north until you can speak with Jerren. Tell him that you are absolutely ready to fight Radahn. Then defeat him behind his castle.
After your victory, a great star will reveal the path to Nokron.
Finding the entrance to Nokron
After a star has fallen in Limgrave, creating a huge crater, you need to go to it. It will be marked with a red symbol on the map and can’t be missed.
Ride to the crater and delve deeper into the crust of Limgrave. Once you’ve traveled deep enough, you will eventually discover Nokron, the Eternal City. From there, continue northeast until you face the boss “Imitator Tear.” You must defeat this boss to proceed.
Finding the Finger Slayer Blade in the Sacred Ground of Night
After fighting the Imitator Tear, you must depart northeast across Nokron’s aqueduct. Near the end of the aqueduct, you can turn left. Stay left until you find the Site of Grace “Ancestral Woods.”
From there, head southwest and jump onto the next roof. Try to go lower and lower. The Finger Slayer Blade can be found under the throne of a giant corpse in a chest.
Leave Nokron and return to Ranni
After obtaining the Finger Slayer Blade, you need to go back to Ranni’s Tower and talk to her about your find. She will thank you and reward you with the item “Reverse Carian Inverted Statue.” Then she will say goodbye and you can leave.
Visit Renna’s Tower and find Nokstella
After speaking with Ranni, you need to reload your world and visit Renna’s Tower. The seal should now be broken, allowing you to use the portal located at the top of the tower. The portal will take you to the main arm of the island, and in front of you, you will find the Tiny Ranni that you must pick up.
Now speak three times with Ranni at the next Site of Grace until she tells you to destroy an ominous shadow. This shadow is located in Nokstella. Follow the path southwest through an anthill and then keep heading northwest until you find an elevator; this will lead you to the shadow.
Defeating the Ominous Shadow
After you’ve taken the elevator down, continue along the path through a tunnel until the light turns reddish. You will be confronted by an ominous shadow that wants to kill you.
Defeat the shadow and obtain the item “Discarded Palace Key.” This key is important for further progression. Since you will need to revisit the area later, it is worth activating a new Site of Grace at the Rot Lake to the northeast.
Defeating Rennala and collecting the Dark Moon Ring
With the new palace key, you need to travel to the grand library of Raya Lucaria and open the chest next to Rennala. You can only travel to the library after defeating Rennala as a boss.
Once you open the chest, you will receive the Dark Moon Ring. This ring is necessary to pass through a secret area.
Defeating Astel, the Voidborn
With the ring in your possession, travel to the Rot Lake and cross it traveling southwest. Continue along the path until you reach stairs that lead you down. At the “Grand Library,” try to go deeper until you reach the Rot Canal. Follow the river to a coffin and climb inside.
The coffin will take you to another area where you must fight against Astel, the Voidborn. Defeat this boss and follow the path north. Use the next elevator up to meet Ranni again.
Reach the Moonlight Altar and marry Ranni
Step out of the elevator and look for the Cathedral of Manus Celes, which is located to the northeast. On the way there, the Glintstone Dragon Adula will visit you again.
You can ignore it and run into the cathedral. Inside the cathedral, you will find a gaping hole in the floor to the south. Jump down, going deeper until you find Ranni’s doll body.
You can now slip the ring onto her. After you have slipped the ring on Ranni, she will appear as an NPC next to you and you can speak to her. After you have exhausted the dialogue, she will disappear and leave you with the Dark Moon Greatsword as a reward.
You can find her armor set in Renna’s Tower by taking the first ladder up and turning 180°. You will see a chest where the set is located.
The end of Ranni’s quest: usher in the Age of Stars
Once you have completed everything, you just need to finish Elden Ring and defeat the final boss, the Elden Beast. Once you’ve done that, you can call Ranni at the Erdtree to usher in the Age of Stars. Once she does that, you will officially be her lord and unlock the secret trophy for the Age of Stars.
