Shinys in Pokémon GO are a major highlight for almost every trainer. However, some are rarer than others. MyMMO presents the 15 Shinys that currently have the least players owning them.

This is shown by the list: This list is based on the assessments of MyMMO editor Noah Struthoff. The following things were taken into account:

• Is the Shiny permanently available?
• How rare is the Pokémon in general in the game?
• Is the Pokémon only available through special actions in the game?

This was not considered: There are some Shinys that were only briefly available due to bugs in the game. For example, this includes the Pikachu with Detective Hat. The Shiny form was only available for 2 minutes and only through a snapshot.

The Shinys that we present to you here have all been officially introduced and are simply damn rare.

This is important: This is just a personal assessment. Of course, you may find other Shinys to be rarer. Ultimately, one can consider themselves lucky if they own all these Shinys.

The Rarest Shinys and What Makes Them Special

Rank 15 – Pionskora: Pionskora lands in this position. The Shiny came into the game through a Rocket event in March 2020. However, even there, the Pokémon appeared as a new Shiny quite rarely. So even at the introduction, one had poor chances of getting a Shiny.

With the end of the event, Pionskora became significantly rarer. Of the Shinys that can currently be caught in the normal way, Pionskora is likely one of the rarest Shinys.

Rank 14 – Burmy: For Burmy, it is especially difficult to possess all 3 forms. Each of the forms is available as Shiny, and outside of events, Burmy is quite rare.

Moreover, it seems that the sand form of Burmy can only be encountered in events in Germany. Those without luck there will have to wait until the next event. So, those who have all 3 forms of Burmy must have played a lot during events or been extremely lucky.

Rank 13 – Teddiursa: This Shiny represents all 3 Shinys, Teddiursa, Lampi, and Voltobal, that were introduced in the past Safari Zones. Those who had a ticket to these events likely have the Shinys, but probably the fewest trainers without tickets may own these Shinys.

Niantic did not hold a worldwide event for this Shiny, as is usually the case. The 3 Pokémon are also quite rare in the wild, especially Teddiursa.

Rank 12 – Botogel: This Shiny is only available around the Christmas season. Two years ago, Shiny Botogel was introduced at Christmas and has only returned during Christmas 2019 since then.

You can catch it for a few weeks each time, but then it disappears again and is gone for the entire year.

Rank 11 – Damhirplex: This Shiny was introduced at Christmas 2019 and could still wear bells around its neck. After Christmas, the bells disappeared, but Damhirplex has not appeared more frequently in any events either.

Only in nests can you still find Damhirplex quite often. However, if you don’t have any of these nests nearby, you have a very poor chance to find the rare Shiny.

Rank 10 – Meltan: The chance for Shiny Meltan occurred exactly twice. The normal form of this Pokémon can only be obtained from the Mystery Box, which you get by trading with one of the “Pokémon Let’s GO” games.

Only twice was the shiny form of Meltan available from this box for a few weeks. However, Shiny Meltan has been completely absent for over a year and is no longer available.

So, if you weren’t lucky enough to get a Shiny Meltan from a Mystery Box during those two short periods, you probably don’t own a Shiny Meltan yet.

Rank 9 – Nincada: Nincada is already extremely rare by itself and does not appear outside of events. Shiny Nincada was then introduced during the paid event “Modular Investigation”.

Those who paid €8.99 could complete special field research where, with a bit of luck, Shiny Nincada was involved. Those without a ticket could catch Nincada in the wild, but even there it was rare. Currently, it is not obtainable at all and is therefore likely even rarer.

Rank 8 – Makabaja: This is also a Pokémon that is only available during a special event: Halloween. It was introduced in 2019 and was only available for exactly 2 weeks. The spawn rate of Makabaja was weak even during the event, and one had to do quite a bit to get a Shiny.

After the event, Makabaja is now completely gone. It is said to be only available at Halloween. So we will have to wait until October for it to return.

Rank 7 – Pandir: This Pokémon is permanently available, but you can only obtain it from the quest “Land 5 great curveball throws in a row.” This field research is quite rare, and you can consider yourself lucky if you find it 2-3 times a week.

Furthermore, the quest is quite tricky, and in the end, a normal Pandir might be included. Therefore, you need to do the quest several times to obtain a Shiny.

Rank 6 – Alola-Knogga: This Shiny has been around for a while in Pokémon GO, but you can only obtain it from raids. Additionally, it is already quite rare in raids and likely has worse odds than legendary Pokémon.

It is particularly difficult because you need at least 2 trainers to take down Alola-Knogga. So you first have to find a teammate to defeat it. Furthermore, Alola-Knogga is not always included in the raid pool. Therefore, there are also periods when you cannot obtain it at all.

Rank 5 – Pantimimi: This Pokémon embodies two extremes: It is likely the rarest regional Shiny and the rarest shiny baby in the game.

Only trainers from Europe have a chance at Shiny Pantimimi. Moreover, it can only hatch from 5 km eggs, which have a large pool of Pokémon anyway.

Rank 4 – Praktibalk: This Shiny represents all Shinys that can only be obtained from 1-star raids or 10 km eggs. This includes Klikk and Sheinux, which are currently also included in the research breakthrough.

Praktibalk is the Shiny that was released most recently and is only available in 10 km eggs and raids. To have a really good chance of getting the Shiny, you have to do some raids, which heavily affects your raid passes. Furthermore, Praktibalk is not always included in the raids.

Rank 3 – Kaumalat: It is likely the rarest Shiny that can be permanently obtained in Pokémon GO. Kaumalat is already one of the rarest Pokémon in the game, and the chances of getting a Shiny are considerably smaller.

Although it can also be obtained from eggs, Kaumalat is extremely rare. Especially outside of events, it requires quite a bit of luck to get a specimen.

Rank 2 – Pikachu with Hat: If you want to catch all Hat-Pikachu, you need an incredible amount of luck. Most Hat-Pikachu are only available for a week, i.e. during the duration of a normal event.

However, there are also Hat-Pikachu that are even rarer. This includes, for example, the Pikachu with Summer Hat. This was only available for one day at a Pikachu event.

But there is also a special Hat-Pikachu that was only available at the last Safari Zones. Those who were not there may not own this special Shiny Pikachu.

Rank 1 – Pichu with Hat: Even rarer than Pikachu with Hat are the Pichu with Hat. They were available in the short timeframes like the Pikachu, but for this Shiny, you needed extra luck from the eggs.

Here you can take the Summer Hat Pichu as an example. It was only available for one day and had to be hatched as a Shiny. Since then, this Pichu has never returned.
