How good is the addon? There are minor errors. Sometimes NPCs pronounce punctuation, like “Dot Dot Dot” when “…” appears in the text. Also, when the character’s name appears in the quest text, the voice simply says a generic “Person”, for example, “Hey, Person, can’t you help me today?”

Almost every gamer knows World of Warcraft, the massive MMORPG from Blizzard. However, there is another world that is more mature, dirtier – and better, as MeinMMO author Benedict Grothaus believes. It’s about Warhammer, and the popular WoW almost played there too.
I have been playing World of Warcraft for almost 18 years and love the game for its humor. Blizzard has really done an excellent job here and built a world that I love to dive into. Elves, dwarves, orcs… High Fantasy is simply the best setting for an MMORPG.
Unfortunately, WoW often lacks the bite. The world often feels clean and nice. Sure, occasionally a corpse hangs from a tree, and the undead are quite a gruesome sight. Still, WoW does not fully tap into its potential to really depict the brutality of war as a “world of warcraft” could.
I know this, because such a better fantasy world already exists.
The older I get and the longer I play WoW, the more I wish that Warhammer had been more successful and today would be the biggest MMORPG. The thought that this almost happened is all the more bitter.

Warhammer is fantasy for adults
Warhammer is the competing universe to Warcraft and is even significantly older. The Warhammer tabletop was released in 1983 – 11 years before Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, the first iteration of Blizzard’s strategy game.
The worlds are very similar, which may be due to the fact that both are heavily inspired by The Lord of the Rings. The similarities go even further: Many races are identical or at least very similar, and their archetypes overlap significantly.
Dwarves, for example, divide into different clans through their traditions, which inhabit different parts of the world. Elves are divided into multiple races, some embody pure magic while others represent the connection to forest and nature.
Even the gods and villains are similar, but Warhammer has a crucial difference: It is dirtier and meaner. Every race is initially racist, or rather: speciesist. Everyone hates each other, and alliances are based on expediency, not on real trust. Warhammer goes further where Warcraft does not dare to.
The idea of a world that is completely and continuously immersed in war comes through much more clearly in Warhammer. The fact that the greenskins exist solely for war, literally multiply like fungi, and follow gods that belong to the “WAR!!!” pantheon is strong evidence for that.
This, by the way, is not just my opinion. Blizzard itself originally wanted to make a Warhammer game, as former Warcraft chief developer Patrick Wyatt explains in an interview with Kotaku. According to him, Blizzard co-founder Allen Adham actually wanted a Warhammer license. But then things turned out differently.

Why Warcraft ultimately didn’t become a Warhammer game can be explained quite quickly. Before Warcraft was created, Blizzard had already produced 2 licensed games, together with Detective Comics (DC), as Wyatt explains:

The Death and Return of Superman was in fact the first game released under the Blizzard name. Prior to that, the game studio was called “Silicon & Synapse”.

The Blizzard team wanted to create its own universe, and so Warcraft was born – albeit heavily inspired by Warhammer. And you can’t deny the success of the studio; after all, WoW is probably why everyone knows Blizzard today.
So why didn’t Warhammer hold its own? Well, it did. It just didn’t work.

Games Workshop, the company behind the universe, created Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning with developer Mythic in 2008, its own Warhammer MMORPG. However, it didn’t last long.
By 2013, the servers were shut down again – officially because the license was not renewed. However, Warhammer Online is said to have attracted very few players, which could have been due to the game’s clear focus on PvP.

However, it seems that the larger interest is in Warhammer 40,000, the science fiction offshoot of the universe. Here, players often spend hundreds to thousands of euros just for the tabletop. The universe is also accompanied by video games, books, and more.
Still, it is hard to understand why Warhammer Online had to die again. Since the closure, fans have simply continued to run their own server and still provide updates even 8 years later. Warhammer Online seems to still enjoy some popularity. Just not as much as WoW.
Warcraft has something that Warhammer lacks: Blizzard
The fact that Games Workshop is focusing more on 40K and less on Warhammer Fantasy may be due to the fact that Warcraft is now the larger and more well-known fantasy universe. And honestly: Without Warcraft, I probably wouldn’t even know Warhammer.
Would Blizzard be as renowned today if they had made World of Warhammer? Maybe, maybe not. The developers back then really had something to offer. But Warcraft was probably their canvas to showcase their skills comprehensively. Without limits.
Still, I am sure that the Warhammer universe has much to offer that no one has really wanted or been able to explore yet. Something that could dethrone World of Warcraft.
Unfortunately, things turned out differently back then, and Allen Adham’s idea of a Warhammer game was never realized. It would have been great if Blizzard had gotten the license and Games Workshop had given them all the freedoms.
Just a perfect scenario. But the world is not perfect – and that’s why we play World of Warcraft, and not World of Warhammer.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 are bringing a well-known sniper into the game in Season 3 and MeinMMO editor Maik Schneider has to think back to his darkest CoD hours.
I have been playing Call of Duty multiplayer since 2008. With “World at War”, I first ventured online, quickly joined a PlayStation clan, and found many players who are still online in my friends list today.
With the successor, the 2009 Modern Warfare 2, we even played in the PlayStation League. Not a big deal, anyone could participate. But we met twice a week for training and played against other clans on weekends.
We once placed second in a season, something I will never forget. And as you can tell, I still enjoy talking about it today.
But I also have to admit that I was not a good player back then. I was really bad at Call of Duty. And when I see the new weapon coming with Season 3 for Warzone 2 and CoD MW2, I unfortunately do not think of the highlights from back then.
I have to think about my most painful defeats.

I was the biggest sniper victim
With Season 3, the FJX Imperium comes into play. Behind the fantasy name hides the “Intervention” – a legendary sniper rifle from CoD MW2 from 2009.
The CoD developers even invited the notorious sniper player FaZeDirty to produce a teaser for the weapon:
“It’s so good, you’re going to love it,” says Dirty in the teaser. “Get ready,” he adds with a grin. But when I think of the Intervention, I rather lose my laughter.
I was the biggest sniper victim in CoD MW2 2009. My mechanical skills were always surprisingly good, the first hit usually landed. That’s why I played a lot in Hardcore mode – opponents fell quickly here. Unless they were too far away.
That’s why I was always at a disadvantage against snipers. Even if I could land the first hit, I had great difficulties hitting follow-up shots back then. Every Intervention destroyed me.
Moreover, I had little understanding of tactics. I was a team player; my strengths were observation, communication, and morale. We always had fun.
But I fell into every sniper trap, constantly got shot from behind, and had no instinct for the spawns and the flow of the game.
In clan wars, that was negligible. We played Search & Destroy, refined our tactics over months, and nearly every move was agreed upon to a certain extent.
But in public matches and training rounds with other game modes? Oh boy, that’s probably a big part of why I eventually stopped playing public matches. Nostalgia in a different way.
Now I admit something: I am now the nasty sniper who shoots confused players unseen.
It was a slow and painful development, marked by setbacks, doubts, and the occasional angry outburst.
But in CoD or Battlefield, I now more often get my hands on a sniper, and I have to say: It feels damn good to realize that I have gotten so much better over the years.
That’s why I’m even a little excited about the FJX Imperium / Intervention. It is, after all, just “another sniper rifle”, but somehow it’s also something special.
For a long time, MeinMMO editor Marie Friske was discouraged by the gacha system in Genshin Impact and now regrets not starting the RPG sooner.
“Gacha systems”, the stuff nightmares are made of for some gamers. Many immediately look for the exit as soon as they hear that a game relies on these random mechanics.
For this very reason, I also gave Genshin Impact a long chance – the thought of a nasty gambling system that requires you to spend thousands of euros to get a somewhat decent character was too present.
I can still understand the criticism, even to the point of some players completely avoiding gacha systems, but I have come to terms with the random mechanics in Genshin Impact and have found a good way to deal with it.

How does the gacha system work in Genshin Impact? You obtain weapons and characters by “pulling” on specific banners. For a pull, you need “fate”, which you can obtain either through in-game currency such as primogems or by paying real money.
With 90 pulls on a banner, you are guaranteed to receive a 5-star character (or weapon). There is a 50% chance that it is the event character you want. With 180 pulls, you are absolutely assured of the character.

Before I started playing Genshin Impact, I established a single golden rule: I will play through Teyvat as a free-to-play player! No matter how tempting a game character may be, I will earn them without spending a cent. So far this has worked, although it occasionally becomes quite difficult for me to restrain myself on event banners.
My strategy to avoid impulse pulls: Create a savings plan in advance for the truly important characters. I have already made one for Baizhu, one of my absolute favorite characters:
What is very important to me in order to enjoy Genshin Impact: I can earn the coveted primogems, the currency you need to pull characters for free.
While it means more effort and grinding, it is doable. Events are especially helpful here, where large amounts of primogems are often offered as rewards. Additionally, the limit of 180 pulls provides a reference point to measure how far I am from my goal of obtaining a character for sure.
Of course, as a free-to-play player, I cannot get all the characters I think are cool, of which there are honestly quite a few. I would have loved to get Alhaitham, Dehya, and Baizhu all, but I must prioritize.
In the end, it is enough for some 5-star characters. Even though you don’t necessarily need them to play through Teyvat. Because even the 4-star characters, which are easier to obtain, sometimes even through events, are completely sufficient.
But when I wander into the shop after hard grinding work with my bag full of primogems and can finally get a long-desired favorite into my team, my joy is all the greater. After all, I earned them with passion.
The survival hit ARKis set to receive a paid remaster. This made players angry. Now the developers are responding to the criticism.
What kind of remaster is this? Studio Wildcard, the developers of ARK: Survival Evolved, announced a remaster for the survival game on March 31, 2023, and at the same time postponed the sequel ARK 2 to the end of 2024.
The remaster is called ARK Survival Ascended, aims to bring the content of ARK: Survival Evolved to Unreal Engine 5, and will be available exclusively for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.

For a total of €60, you now get the remaster ARK: Survival Ascended and the DLCs Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction, Genesis Part 1, and Genesis Part 2.
Before the change, players would have had to pay €80 to €90 for all content (depending on the platform). The DLCs Scorched Earth, Aberration, and Extinction would have been part of the “Explorer Pass” for €19.99. Genesis Part 1 and Part 2 would have also cost an additional €19.99 together.

Not just an update: In the announcement, Studio Wildcard also explained in detail why it is a paid remaster and not a UE5 update, which players assumed after a Twitter post by Wildcard co-founder Jeremy Stieglitz.

Sony has sent a statement to the authority, titled: “Observations from SIE [Sony] on the CMA’s addendum to the provisional findings”. The documents are partially censored but publicly accessible (PDF via assets.publishing.service.gov.uk).
Already in point 2, things get heated: “The reversal of the CMA’s position on its theory of harm to the console market is surprising, unprecedented, and irrational”. Sony criticizes the authority’s change of mind and points out what evidence has already been provided.

Another chapter in a battle between two corporations that have already proven to prioritize revenue over customer welfare.
In the end, the acquisition will likely depend on the assessments of three authorities: the regulatory bodies in the USA, the EU, and the British CMA. The decision of one of these authorities would likely also influence the others’ decisions, which is why Sony is now opting for confrontation once again.
Experts view the chances positively that, in the end, a merger will happen without major restrictions for Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. In the end, only time will tell what the decision will look like.

Regular Twitch Drops: Here’s how you can occasionally get random loot from the boxes
How do I get Twitch Drops? First, you need an account on twitch.tv, then you have to link your two accounts (Twitch and ESO) together. Once you’ve done that, you will receive the drops just by watching. You can also track the percentage progress live.
How do I connect ESO with Twitch? If you are logged into your Twitch account and you’re on your homepage, click on the icon with your profile picture, which you can find at the top right. Select the “Settings” option there. Now you will be guided to the next step.

Bridging Content Droughts with Alternatives
If you play multiple MMORPGs, you practically never experience a content drought. If there’s nothing happening in Guild Wars 2 and all story content and achievements are completed, I participate in a new season in Black Desert or test the latest DLC in ESO.
In the last 12 months, I particularly noticed this with my friends who have been playing WoW for decades. They reacted very differently to the relatively little content during this time:
One group decided to try other MMORPGs. They joined the hype wave around FFXIV, which Asmongold and other WoW streamers sparked. Later, this group also looked into ESO together. They had a really good time.
A few of my friends remained loyal only to WoW and didn’t want to cancel their subscription. Although they didn’t have a bad time – after all, they were still playing their favorite game – my gut feeling tells me that 2021 was significantly more entertaining for group 1.
I haven’t experienced a content drought in Guild Wars 2 since waiting for Heart of Thorns in 2015. Instead, I have continually dedicated myself to new MMORPGs, even if only for a few dozen hours of gameplay because it ultimately didn’t turn out to be fun enough.
You Experience Cool Niche Games
Most MMORPGs that have been released in recent years have been rather flops. I especially think of Bless Online, Elyon, and Crowfall. But I would like to positively highlight two niche games at this point.
One game is PSO2: New Genesis. In this sci-fi MMORPG, things get action-packed, and the combat system is just a lot of fun. Unfortunately, there is a lack of content and varied experiences, but the battles easily make up for it.
I would probably never have tried both games if I had focused only on one big MMORPG. I would also have missed out on some really crazy experiences. My favorite anecdote by now is the character editor from Chimeraland. The gameplay is rather weak, but creating the craziest beasts was a lot of fun for me.
Every player has a favorite MMORPG, and that’s good. However, over time, that game can get boring because you have seen and experienced everything.
When you switch games – no matter which MMORPG – you suddenly learn to appreciate aspects you previously took for granted. For me, these are usually the incredibly good combat system, the jumping puzzles, and the wardrobe/dye system from Guild Wars 2. No other game compares.
That’s why I had so much fun playing Guild Wars 2 again as part of the new expansion End of Dragons. I was able to enjoy the strengths of my favorite game again. It simply offers so much comfort compared to New World and Lost Ark, which I had been addicted to in the previous months.

I Play What Matches My Mood
If you play multiple MMORPGs, you can freely choose what you want to experience right now. As a father, I currently only have about one to two hours each evening and want to use them in a way that perfectly takes me out of everyday life:
If I want to dive into challenging dungeons or raids, I play Trials in ESO or dungeons in Lost Ark (here, Final Fantasy XIV would surely be the best solution, but I never got the hang of it)
If I want to enjoy good PvP arenas, I play Guild Wars 2 or Lost Ark
If I want to grind mindlessly, enjoy battles, and watch a series on the side, I play New World or Black Desert
If I want to follow a cool new story, I choose ESO or SWTOR
There is no MMORPG that offers me all that. But with multiple games, I am so flexible that I can shape my evening exactly as I need it right now.
The Next WoW Won’t Come
