This is how I discovered my love for Genshin Impact

Recently, MeinMMO editor Marie Friske started playing the open-world RPG Genshin Impact – within a short period, the game has become one of her absolute favorites. Especially the interesting characters, the vast game world, and the flexible multiplayer system convinced her.

One evening, I decided to give the RPG and Gacha game Genshin Impact a chance. I had heard a lot about the game and started with high expectations – I was not disappointed.

This article originally appeared in December 2022.

In Genshin Impact, you play as a traveler, depending on which main character you choose at the beginning. With them, you explore the game world “Teyvat”. You meet various cities like Mondstadt or Liyue and their associated deities, the so-called “Archons.” Each one rules over one of 7 elements:

  • Anemo (Wind)
  • Geo (Earth)
  • Hydro (Water)
  • Dendro (Plant)
  • Electro (Lightning)
  • Pyro (Fire)
  • Cryo (Ice)

The deities have endowed selected humans with “Visions” and equipped them with the powers of their element. In gameplay, the characters have different abilities of an element. You create a party from characters with which you can prove yourself while exploring the world and in combat.

Already after the first few hours of gameplay, Genshin Impact completely caught my attention, and I have spent many evenings working through various quests and areas – sometimes until late at night.

Three aspects of the game particularly appeal to me and have ultimately made it a favorite for me:

  • The characters
  • The game world
  • The coop

Interesting characters with their own stories

One of the main aspects that defines Genshin Impact is undoubtedly its numerous playable characters. Besides the interesting character design, I am particularly convinced by the complexity of the characters:

In the backgrounds and voice lines reflect various traits, strengths, weaknesses, and complete stories. The latter the player also learns more about over time and experiences through interactions with the characters.

I especially like one character and his story on my journey so far: Zhongli!

Here you can see the character demo for Zhongli:

Start video
Genshin Impact: Character Demo – „Zhongli: The Listener”

The reasons for this can be read in the spoiler box, as I am revealing important information that represents major spoilers for the Liyue Archon Quest:

That’s why Zhongli is one of my favorite characters

Zhongli first presents himself to the player as an advisor to the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, later revealing himself as the Geo Archon “Morax” or “Rex Lapis,” who was believed to be deceased. However, he staged his own death and now exists as Zhongli in his human form in Liyue – no one knows this initially.

Together with him, I as a player do shopping in Liyue. Zhongli generously orders the best goods, only to realize he doesn’t have any money with him. He does this in such a likable way that I only amuse myself about it instead of being annoyed.

In one area Zhongli is truly in his element: he quickly proves to be a source of numerous trivial facts about Liyue and shares them with me during the shopping trip in his philosophical and calm manner. I enjoy listening to him.

At the same time, the character also radiates a certain sadness. Especially when I once witness Zhongli thoughtfully looking at a Geo statue. It becomes evident that the character is internally broken.

Later, Zhongli also reveals the reason why he staged his death, which breaks my heart: he is tired of his existence as a Geo God after all these millennia and has already thought about whether his end has now come. However, he still felt obligated to his city of Liyue and the people, so he did not abandon them.

With his background story and dialogues, he embodies for me in a certain way the finiteness of life’s phases and life itself and shows that nothing remains forever, except for the memory. A harsh but beautiful realization.

In one of Zhongli’s voice lines, which is also my favorite quote from Genshin Impact, this becomes very clear:

“For those that live too long, the friends of days gone by and scenes from their adventures live on in their memories. As such I have no regrets in meeting you friend. Should the day ever come that we are not together, you will continue to shine like gold in my memories.”

Translated, it means:

“For those who live too long, the friends of days gone by and the scenes of their adventures continue to live on in their memories. Therefore I do not regret meeting you, my friend. Should the day come when we are no longer together, you will continue to shine like gold in my memories.”

Genshin is designed as a Gacha game that allows you to obtain playable characters randomly along with weapons. I can certainly understand why some players invest exorbitant amounts of money into the purchase of wishes required to pull characters.

Because I am not spared from temptation either and must admit that it sometimes seems quite tempting to buy additional wishes to increase the chance of getting one of my favorite characters, like Zhongli.

In version 3.3, a new playable character called “Wanderer” was introduced:

Start video
Character Demo – „Wanderer: Of Solitude Past and Present“

However, if one does not shy away from the grind, a good number of Original Resin can be earned completely for free. This is an in-game currency with which one gets wishes. Of course, the time and effort involved are significantly higher – for me, however, that’s just part of the game.

The acquisition of Original Resin is less of a “duty” for me but rather fun gameplay. I personally enjoy the quests in which you get to know the characters and thus the world of Genshin Impact better, such as the Archon Quests or the Legends Quests. If I can also pick up a treasure chest or two on the way to the objective, so much the better.

In the Legends Quests, I find the little trip with the absolute unluckiest character in the game particularly entertaining. We are talking about Bennett, a young adventurer who is followed by misfortune at every turn. At first, I think the character is exaggerating when he claims he has quite a bit of bad luck – but I was so wrong:

From a sudden weather change, miserable chest contents, to inedible food and an unsuccessful shopping trip, everything is included. Hardly any mission do we finish without incident. We were even locked in a ruin once because I made the mistake of letting Bennett operate a single switch.

The game even provides a small souvenir photo

However, since the adventurer always stays positive and shows gratitude for small good moments, the story is still nice to play and in the end, I am happy that even Bennett has some good luck.

Genshin Impact offers plenty of room for exploration

Treasure chests, puzzles, and enemies are abundant in Genshin Impact. It feels like you find a little extra at every corner within a beautifully designed game world that invites you to explore. Players have a lot of freedom in what they choose to do in Teyvat.

Whether I want to directly complete the next Archon Quest, play my way up in the “Winding Abyss,” or solve puzzles and explore ruins, it is largely up to me.

Also, regarding the multiplayer function, the player can decide when and how they want to use the coop feature.

It is up to you whether you prefer to play coop or solo

As I am also a big fan of single-player games and sometimes just enjoy being out alone, I appreciate this freedom of choice in the multiplayer mode immensely. If I want to play with other players, I can send requests to join or accept requests from other players to explore and fight together.

With up to four players, we can run around together and communicate via chat. This is very helpful if you need a bit of support – however, multiplayer is disabled during the Archon Quests and the Winding Abyss. There, you have to go through alone as a player.

Here you will find a detailed explanation, how the coop works in Genshin Impact

Conclusion

Genshin Impact is a great RPG for players who enjoy exploring and are not afraid of grinding. And yes, it is also a Gacha game. In my opinion, the game is completely worth it, even without spending a cent. Since in-game currency can be earned, I find the wish system without real money somewhat time-consuming but quite feasible.

Furthermore, I perceive the game as very beginner-friendly. Especially in the quests, a lot of support is offered, and the puzzles are well solvable in terms of difficulty, ensuring that frustration is avoided. Instead, it is a beautiful feel-good game that can be played very well after a stressful day to get lost in a beautiful world.

I will definitely continue to explore Teyvat and am curious where the traveler’s journey will go next.

You can now play the brand new €80 ‘Monster Hunter’ game from EA for free – on PS5 and Xbox

In February 2023, Wild Hearts was released, an action role-playing game by Electronic Arts for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. It was apparently meant to capitalize on the success of Monster Hunter World here in the West. However, Wild Hearts had a belly flop at launch. Just a few weeks after the launch, EA is now starting a free trial phase for PS5 and Xbox Series X. Anyone wanting to test it on PC needs an EA Play subscription for about €4 a month.

What kind of game is Wild Hearts?

  • Wild Hearts is an action role-playing game by Omega Force, the developers of Dynasty Warriors. In the game, you hunt giant monsters in a fantasy world inspired by feudal Japan.
  • Upon release, the game received reviews in the range of 80%, indicating good test evaluations, but there were some technical issues.
  • Here in the West, the game went almost completely unnoticed at launch – there was little attention in the media and on Twitch. Many may have been deterred by the high price of €80 on PS5, Xbox Series, or €70 on Steam.

This is the current promotion: There is currently a “Free Trial Phase” for Wild Hearts:

  • You need an EA account for this.
  • The trial phase is expected to cover the first 10 hours of the game, roughly until reaching Minato, the first village of the game.

  • The trial phase lasts until April 13.
  • Anyone who wants to buy it afterward will receive a 20% discount for PC and Xbox.

Is it worth playing? At launch, Wild Hearts had some supporters who claimed that the game was indeed fun. Since the release, several improvements and updates have also been added.

The general reaction from many fans of the genre at launch was: I’ll get Wild Hearts when it’s on sale later. The purchase price was seen as too high.

The trial can now be the chance to at least try the first 10 hours.

Yes, Twitch streamers have certain advantages in MMOs and no, that’s not a problem

Gamers often complain that streamers have some advantages on Twitch. Often, these are exaggerated examples, but they are not entirely wrong. Actually, it doesn’t matter at all. On the contrary: It’s even good if streamers don’t have to work everything out themselves, says MeinMMO author Benedict Grothaus.

“He can only do that because he is a streamer.” This or something similar regularly echoes in the chats of major streamers, in forums, or on Reddit, and even in the comments here on MeinMMO.

What advantages do streamers have? Streamers get to play games earlier, streamers receive pre-made characters from the devs, streamers get their own servers, and everyone helps the streamers as much as possible. And they also get paid for it.

This article was originally published in September 2021.

The accusations are manifold, and sometimes the dispute escalates to such a degree that a true “us against them” mentality arises. And to be fair, I must say: Yes, streamers have their advantages.

In the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, there was recently an outcry that criticized exactly that. The streamer Rich Campbell completed a raid of the game after a week of progress, with help from a group of established veterans:

He was “carried,” as it’s called in jargon – relying on others to compensate for his supposed inability and carry him through. Similar accusations are repeatedly made against Asmongold (featured image), one of the biggest streamers on Twitch. Whether and how much this is true remains to be seen. In any case, it’s absolutely fine for something like this to happen.

Show me the game, not how you fail

That’s why “streamer bonuses” are fine: If streamers can get through certain content, I also benefit as a viewer. After all, I get to see what a game has to offer that I might never finish myself.

Of course, I don’t want to see my hero fail over and over again. I don’t want to watch someone get stuck somewhere; I want to know how it gets solved and continues. Sure, now and then we all enjoy watching people fail. But if that keeps repeating – like in FFXIV over days or weeks – it becomes boring.

Streamers are entertainers, and as such, they don’t have to be professionals. They should entertain me and give me insight into what they are doing. If they lack the skills to achieve it themselves, then let them organize a capable team to help them. The main thing is that I can watch my favorite streamer.

Then they should just get better! Why? It’s not a streamer’s job to be the best at their game. If I want to see top gameplay, I watch the pros who usually also stream or are active on YouTube.

If I don’t like the style or content of a streamer, I watch something else. If everyone does that, he will be forced to change his content – or he disappears because streaming is no longer profitable. This is how Twitch has worked for ages.

The 2 types of streamers: If you take a closer look at the streams on Twitch, you will discover two concepts that are successful: Entertainers and pros. Pros show their game at the highest level.

Entertainers fill their stream with interaction and work through games and their emotions to convey them. In both cases, it’s about seeing what the respective game (or category) really has to offer.

“Literally doesn’t affect you”

The well-known content creator Frosty frequently accompanies “World First” races in Final Fantasy and is deeply rooted in the community there. He has also commented specifically on the discussion about Campbell.

In a tweet, he states: “Whining about the successes of others that literally do not affect you makes you look like spoiled brats. Just so you know.” (via Twitter.com) And yes, what advantage would you get if streamers fail over and over again?

I personally would lose interest in a game if I don’t see any progress. Even less so if people constantly nag at me for it.

Don’t be jealous, enjoy the content

The anger towards such “advantages” of the streamers is often born out of envy or a lack of understanding of the job, as far as I have observed. It is often complained that streamers supposedly only get paid for playing games and actually do no work.

This attitude is … strange. What exactly is good about someone playing a game in front of me that might not even be finished, or getting help from others?

Just because someone else plays earlier, my enjoyment of the game doesn’t suffer because of it. Moreover: If that person gives their opinion and I trust it, I can much better assess whether I want to spend money on a game myself.

The same goes for help from the community or from pros. Everyone has the opportunity to ask for help on Reddit or in Discords, and there are enough helpful players in almost all games. But not everyone wants that, as the feeling of reward and “I did this myself” gets lost in the process.

Asmongold xcq twitch streamer title
Two of the biggest streamers on Twitch: Asmongold (left) and xQc.

Some of these advantages, we journalists have as well. Publishers provide us with preview keys or invite us to events where they guide us through the game. We process this information and present it to you.

Streamers operate similarly, only that they primarily take a personal approach. Their strength lies in scoring through personality and an opinion that fans trust or want to engage with. In both cases, however, it’s important to thoroughly examine a game.

Some streamers even cleverly use the hate directed at them as publicity:

Redfall: Game site shows 3 minutes of gameplay from a boss fight – comments are harsher than the fight

Redfall is a new vampire shooter from Arkane Studios, published by Bethesda. Redfall is meant for fans of single-player and co-op experiences, releasing on May 2 for PC and Xbox Series X. Players of the PlayStation 5 will miss out after Microsoft acquired Bethesda. Now there has been gameplay from a boss fight and some negative comments.

This is what we know about Redfall:

  • In Redfall, players must fend off a vampire plague. They fight alone or with up to 4 players in a co-op shooter against the gentlemen and ladies with the nice fangs.
  • MeinMMO author Maik Schneider got the chance to play Redfall early and says: It is “looting and leveling with crazy weapons and characters”. It reminds him strongly of Borderlands.
  • He judges that the world is exciting, but Redfall has its weaknesses in gameplay. The gunfights are not fun, and the controls are lacking. There is still a lot to improve.

This is the new gameplay now: The US site IGN released a 3-minute video on Good Friday, April 7, showing a boss fight. 3 players fight against “The Rook”, a vampire. The fight takes place on a farm, with many effects visible.

The player, from whose perspective we are watching, often runs away. Especially when his teammates go down, he takes on the thankless task of stalling, distracting the boss, and has his hands full.

In the end, he delivers the killing blow and gets to loot.

Players mercilessly dissect the new gameplay of Redfall

How is this commented on? The comments on YouTube are brutal and mainly focus on the playstyle of the poor soul recording the video:

  • “One must say: IGN manages to make every game they play look painful.”
  • “If you give the controller to your little brother …”
  • “Honestly, if IGN decides to show the gameplay footage from that guy, I wonder what the others have been playing together.”
  • “8 shots and 7 missed while the boss casually trots straight towards you.”
  • “Why are you fighting a giant boss in a fully furnished house? Why are you running away from the boss and shooting at adds while your team is dying? Why are you opening a locked door in the middle of a fight instead of reviving your teammates? Why are you throwing a translocator and not using it? Why are you shooting a sniper at an enemy standing right in front of you? Why do you get to deliver the killing blow when you’ve hardly done anything?”

Memo to self: Never record video footage of me playing anything other than strategy games, and even then, someone will come along and explain that I married the wrong cousin in Crusader Kings 3! Damn backseat gamers!

LoL: Star player returned after retirement, wanted to show everyone – Nothing works, now he finally quits at 27

The Dane Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg is considered the most popular and significant player in the US-American League of Legends. He is inseparably linked to the name TSM. Bjergsen actually ended his career in 2020, then worked for a year as a coach in LoL, but returned in 2021 to shine as a professional player. However, that went wrong. Now he ends his career at 27.

Why is Bjergsen so popular?

  • Bjergsen has a story that many apparently can identify with: He experienced an unhappy youth in Denmark, where he was an outsider in school who was bullied. In nothing did he really feel competent. He even had suicidal thoughts.
  • However, because he was so good at the computer game LoL, he matured into a star, was able to switch to the USA, found friends and a community, played for TSM for one of the big teams, and was the linchpin of the team as a midlaner from 2013 to 2020, even becoming a co-owner of Team Solo Mid.
  • Bjergsen developed into a star on social media and the most popular and greatest player in the USA: He became a 6-time champion in the LCS, snagged 4 MVP titles and received numerous other personal awards. The Dane certainly also earned a lot of money in the USA.

Bjergsen is the greatest player in the USA – Faker is the greatest in the world:

Start video
The Life of Faker – Why He is a Living Legend

Bjergsen already retired after the World Championship disaster in 2020

What was the catch? Even though Bjergsen was the dominant player with TSM in the USA, and the fans kissed the ground he walked on, he could never convince internationally. At the Worlds, he regularly got eliminated early. The competition from China and South Korea has always been two or three classes better than the teams Bjergsen played for.

In 2020, he experienced an absolute disaster with TSM, getting eliminated with 0-6. After that, Bjergsen ended his career and became a coach at TSM.

TSM-Bjergsen
Bjergsen in 2017.

In the last 2 years, Bjergsen played with “super teams”, but never made it far in the playoffs

How was his return? After a year as a coach, Bjergsen wanted to give it another try and play professionally again. His boss at TSM, Reginald, allegedly made him a great offer, promising him money and strong teammates, but Bjergsen switched to Team Liquid, where they assembled a “super team” of great European players like Hans sama or Bwipo.

But Team Liquid had no success, the team did not fit together, got eliminated in the playoffs against younger teams, and the team broke up after a year.

In 2023, Bjergsen wanted to give it one more shot with “100 Thieves”. He joined the team anew, replacing the German Abbedagge and was reunited with his old friend Doublelift.

But even this team could not convince – fell out in the playoffs, in the Spring Split 2023, against FlyQuest and Golden Guardians mercilessly.

Bjergsen has played LoL for half his life, enough

This is the end: After the loss against Golden Guardians, Bjergsen has now announced his final farewell. He states that it is not about the elimination or the team, but that he has been struggling for a long time.

According to Bjergsen, LoL is so complex with the many champions that it takes a lot of time and effort to stay at the top. For a long time, he has made that effort. That was also the key to his success. Now, however, he no longer feels that fire after playing LoL for half his life.

One always chases that one success, the championship or winning an international tournament. But for Bjergsen, that probably no longer matters.

He says:

I have worked harder than many others, I wanted it more than many of them, and I was ready to sacrifice time with friends and family, ready to sacrifice personal interests, hobbies, and actually everything else.

For a long time, he has been telling people around him: If he no longer feels that he can give everything to win and be the best, then he will stop. And he believes that the time has now come.

Bjergsen does not see his first retirement as a retirement because he still wanted to win then, even as a coach.

This is now his first and only retirement from competition. He does not yet know how it will continue. He has decided not to immediately continue as a coach or streamer:

I would like to find out what my identity is when my whole time is not related to League of Legends.

What’s behind this: After the emotional video, it is hard to be a bit mean to Bjergsen. But, to put it bluntly: After 2021, the hype surrounding Bjergsen was more hype than actual sporting success. Previously, Bjergsen was dominant with his teams in the USA, but internationally, it was never enough against Korea and China.

After his comeback, Bjergsen’s teams were no longer the big force nationally: It all seemed cobbled together to desperately create a team that would make an impact at the Worlds. But that’s apparently not how LoL works.

His teams could convince in the regular season, but crumbled under the pressure of the playoffs. Even though Bjergsen himself still played strong in recent years.

It’s a shame for Bjergsen. You could tell he did not want to end with the 0-6 at the World Championship 2020. But ultimately, he did not manage to secure a place on the international stage in the last two years. So this part of what was otherwise a dream career will remain unfulfilled.

By the way, Team TSM is not doing well right now:

German MMORPG is doing so well that a studio in Regensburg is paying all employees 9 months’ salary as a bonus

The MMORPG Tibia was created in 1995 in Regensburg, but experienced its best business year 25 years later. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, record numbers have been achieved – even in 2022, the success streak continued, allowing the employees to look forward to a hefty bonus.

What is special about the MMORPG?

  • Tibia was created in 1995 when four university students in Regensburg came together and invented what we now know as MMORPG. Back then, it was uncharted territory, there was no template, they only knew that a team from the USA was somehow planning something similar with “Ultima Online”.
  • One of the unique features of the MMORPG is that the students founded a company in Regensburg, CipSoft. To this day, they are the managing directors of the company, which now consists of almost 100 people.
  • Tibia is primarily played today in South America and Poland and continues to generate exciting stories in 2023, which we report on at MeinMMO.

How are business operations going? The business has been excellent since 2020. The lockdown surely played a role in that. However, in 2022, when measures generally eased, the revenue remained strong.

The managing directors say:

CipSoft’s record results in recent years were no exception but are part of a sustainably positive development.

The statistics confirm this sustainable positive development, with a boom during the corona year 2020:

cipsoft-einnahmen.v3

How does Tibia make so much money? Tibia is a freemium game. You can play it for free or get a premium account, which brings benefits. Additionally, there is the premium currency “Tibia Coins.”

It is even possible in Tibia to sell your character through a bazaar. CipSoft takes a share of the transaction amount.

If you are interested in working for CipSoft in Regensburg, where they speak German and consistently use the informal “du,” you can find the current job offers.

The company distributes 25% of the profits to the employees

How do the employees benefit from it? This is another unique feature of the company from Regensburg. As managing director Stephan Vogel explains, the company distributes a quarter of the company’s profits to the employees each year in the form of a bonus.

This year, the bonuses correspond to more than 9 additional monthly salaries.

Teamfoto-Tibia
CipSoft now has almost 100 employees.

This will not only delight the employees but also the city treasury of Regensburg.

We conducted a large interview with Stephan Vogel, one of the heads of Tibia, on MeinMMO:

Mother started gaming for her son: “At first, I was completely overwhelmed”

We spoke with a mother-son duo who game and stream online together. They told us about the beginnings of their shared gaming adventures and give tips on what parents should pay attention to when it comes to gaming.

Since its inception, gaming has rapidly spread as a hobby and has now become part of the mainstream of entertainment media. For many kids, it is part of their everyday life.

They play themselves, exchange ideas with friends, or watch their favorite gaming YouTuber or Twitch streamer. For Christmas or birthdays, they might wish for a new console or the latest cool game that everyone else is playing.

This interview originally appeared in November 2022 and was updated for you in April 2023.

These are wishes that many parents simply cannot understand. For many parents who did not grow up with gaming, it is difficult to comprehend their kids’ enthusiasm for gaming. Nevertheless, many of them make an effort, including Stephie (via Twitter).

To better understand her son, Moritz, she started gaming herself in 2020. We at MeinMMO had a conversation with both of them.

The lockdown in 2020 opened new doors

MeinMMO: Hello you two! Briefly introduce yourselves to our readers.

Stephie and Moritz: Hello, we are Stephie (38 years old) and Moritz (13 years old) from Cologne. Moritz is currently in the 8th grade at a secondary school. In-game, you can find him under the gamertag Evilking_1337. Stephie is a trained office communication clerk and has been a single mother for nearly 12 years. In-game, you can find her under the gamertag Nachttreue.

MeinMMO: Stephie, you started gaming just a few years ago. What was the trigger for that?

Stephie: Junior was sent into homeschooling in March 2020. This meant that we had to spend 24/7 time together. One afternoon, I grabbed his Nintendo Switch and created an account for Fortnite.

I wanted to know what Junior finds so interesting about the game. And I was looking for a distraction from the very demanding media at the time; I thought my Junior’s hobby was a good idea.

MeinMMO: Moritz, how did you find your mother’s decision? Had you tried to persuade her to game before, or was it a surprise for you?

Moritz: I thought it was great that my mother suddenly got involved with my hobby and could get excited about gaming. I wasn’t really surprised because we often talked about my favorite games.

But from the moment she started playing the game herself, she suddenly understood much more about what I had been telling her before. And my friends at school are still jealous that I have a mom who games and now also streams on Twitch.

nachttreue genshin impact stream screenshot
Stephie now plays games like Genshin Impact, CoD, and Disney Dreamlight Valley on her Twitch channel, and sometimes Moritz joins her.

MeinMMO: How did the early days look like?

Moritz: It all started with Fortnite. At that time, besides Minecraft, it was my main game. I basically gamed every afternoon after school with my friends or alone. In between, I would tell my mother about the tasks I had completed in the game. That made her curious eventually.

Stephie: I often discussed his favorite game Fortnite with him. After some initial head shaking, I got caught up in his enthusiasm, and one afternoon I sat down at the PC and created my own account for Fortnite. However, I quickly realized that my PC was unsuitable for that, and from then on, I had to borrow his Nintendo Switch.

MeinMMO: What were the biggest challenges for both of you in getting started?

Stephie: That we only had one Nintendo Switch console at the beginning. We had to coordinate with each other. Which wasn’t bad per se, but as a duo, we couldn’t play together. A few months later, I bought a second console, a PS4, on eBay.

After that, the only challenge was getting used to each other’s play styles. However, that went pretty quickly because we think very similarly. From then on, we were a very harmonious gamer duo.

“In-game chats are the new playground meetups”

MeinMMO: What advice would you give parents who want to do more with their gamer kids?

Stephie: Show much more interest in the children’s hobbies. If possible, try gaming together. This ideally creates a new connection between you. Video games are no longer to be ignored today. During the lockdown in 2020, it maintained the exchange between Moritz and his friends. In-game chats today are the new playground meetups. This should not be belittled, but seen as an opportunity to exchange ideas with each other.

Moritz: Don’t ask stupid questions, but show interest, have patience, and stick with it.

dead by daylight stephie stream
After starting with Fortnite, Stephie now plays everything that’s fun. This also includes the merciless horror game Dead By Daylight.

MeinMMO: Stephie, in your experience, how is the best way to get started with gaming?

Stephie: Just do it. In the beginning, you will probably be completely overwhelmed, but most kids will surely enjoy helping with the first “steps.” Additionally, I’ve been told that it’s cool to be able to say, “My mom or dad games with me X.”

MeinMMO: Moritz, how can kids make their parents’ first gaming experience fun so that everyone can enjoy it together?

Moritz: Be patient with your parents and don’t throw them right into the hardest level of the game.

MeinMMO: What should non-gaming parents pay attention to?

Stephie: Show interest! Definitely seek conversation, even if you don’t want to game yourself. It is incredibly important to stay in dialogue with the kids. So that you can address the negative aspects, the dangers that unfortunately lurk in in-game chats, and ensure that they communicate with you if they ever have negative experiences.

MeinMMO: Many parents are worried about introducing their children to video games that have a lot of violence and microtransactions. What are your thoughts on this topic?

Stephie: I can understand it well. We often have conversations about in-game purchases, what makes sense, and how much has already been invested. In my opinion, the most important thing is to talk and explain together.

Also, regarding the content of the various games. I am very tolerant; Junior is allowed to play many games that are above his age. But only because I know that he handles it properly and we talk about it.

Moritz: I am aware that the violence in games should only be exhibited there and not in real life. As for in-game purchases: what my mother says! (laughs)

We sincerely thank Stephie and Moritz for the interview and wish them lots of fun gaming together!

Blizzard brings new survival game: Journalist says it is almost done and reveals info about gameplay

The game forge Blizzard is working on a new survival game in a new universe. So far, little is known about it, but a journalist from the Xbox environment has now revealed some details, including the name: It could be called “Odyssey.”

Jez Corden has made a name for himself as a leaker in recent years. He makes predictions for release dates and is often spot on. However, he claims to have ways to see early gameplay of some titles – including Blizzard’s new survival game.

What we know for sure about the game can be found here. Be warned, there isn’t much. However, due to Corden’s leak, some information has now come to light that we will list here.

Please keep in mind: These are unconfirmed leaks. Things change during development or decisions are made that render such information worthless before release. Take the new information with a degree of skepticism.

The survival genre is trending. This was evident not least from the release of Sons of the Forest, which brought Steam servers to their knees. More about the title in the video:

Start video
Sons of the Forest is the most awaited survival game on Steam – All information in 2 minutes

What new information is there? The information comes from a podcast with leaker and journalist Jez Corden (via youtube.com). For over four and a half hours, two likable nerds discuss Xbox, games, and Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision-Blizzard.

Then the new Blizzard game is mentioned. A survival game about which not much is currently known. However, Corden can share some exciting information and even claims to have seen very early gameplay some time ago:

  • The name of the game is “Odyssey”
    • Corden is 90% sure, but it could also be a code name
  • It is a multi-platform title
    • The game will likely come for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and maybe even for Switch
  • Shortly before completion
  • No graphical showpiece
    • The graphics are rather “cartoonish,” reminiscent of Overwatch
  • The setup reminds Corden of Fallout 76
    • Co-op PvE world, set up your own shops, classic survival mechanics

Corden also discusses the possibility that the title will also come to PlayStation and Switch. Due to the potential acquisition of Activision-Blizzard by Microsoft, he is no longer so sure whether “Odyssey” will actually be released outside of PC and Xbox.

When will “Odyssey” be released? Currently, only speculation can be made about it. Even if the game is already far advanced or even almost finished, the release of Diablo 4 is initially scheduled for early June – another Blizzard game that many fans of the studio are waiting for.

The new game from Blizzard is likely to be released with a respectful distance from the big action RPG, possibly around the Christmas season of 2023. But for now, we must wait for new information.

MyMMO editor Benedict Grothaus is a fan of Blizzard and survival games. He thinks that “Odyssey” could be just the right thing: A survival game is now the only right decision by Blizzard.

I traveled for three hours through WoW for a dry success and it was great

Weekend and nothing to do. MeinMMO editor Patrick Freese starts playing World of Warcraft again after a long break. He couldn’t have guessed that a boring achievement in the game would bring him so much joy.

It is Sunday evening. For me, a typical time that I like to spend at the PC. I ordered some food and decided to start World of Warcraft. To complete a few achievements that may grant some titles, mounts, or toys – that’s the light entertainment I can use right now.

I had paused WoW for a while, only logging in sporadically to manage a few auctions. So it was certainly time again for a more serious session. I scrolled through my achievements overview looking for a challenge that would reward me properly. The Field Photographer – that’s my mission! A bit time-consuming, but at least a title as a reward. Let’s go.

This article originally appeared in February 2022 and was updated in April 2023 for you.

Surprisingly, the evening was not as dull as the achievement suggests

This is my mission: For the achievement “Field Photographer,” I need to visit 43 locations with a character of my choice. At each location, I take out my S.E.L.F.I.E. camera and snap a photo. After 43 selfies at 43 places, the achievement is complete, and I earn the title “Field Photographer,” which can then shine next to my character’s name.

To me, this sounds like I will be traveling through the continents for hours, with nothing to do in between. Boring. Travel from one continent to another, take out your flying mount, visit a location, snap a photo, and move on to the next location. Fortunately, at that time, there was a friend online in my guild, whom I met in this guild more than 14 years ago.

I ask if he has already completed the achievement, and he declines. We create a group and meet on Discord. Our journey begins at the quest starting point in Orgrimmar. I am not aware at this point that I will spend the next three and a half hours flying around, filled with nostalgia and good stories.

World-of-Warcraft-Selfie-1-Orgrimmar
5:55 PM – The first photo of a long selfie series, takeoff in Orgrimmar

Chapter 1 – Kalimdor: Our next stop after Orgrimmar is Moonglade. Since my buddy Woife plays a druid, he has a loud advantage here, which he has to rub in my face: “Fly over there. I just use my teleport to Moonglade.” I mount my flying mount and take off. Meanwhile, I prepare a small list of the places we need to visit on the second monitor.

First, we scour Kalimdor. Moonglade, Nordrassil, the Echo Isles, the Twin Colossals, a quick detour to Onyxia’s Lair, where we take down the boss, into the Caverns of Time, to the Terrace of the Makers, to the Hall of Origin, and finally to the legendary Ahn’Qiraj raid, to snap a selfie at the Scarab Wall.

We sweetened the flight time by flying high, roughly aiming for the target location, and then checking how accurately we would hit it. Everything in Kalimdor is relatively close together. In a short time, we completed this chapter.

Chapter 2 – Eastern Kingdoms: We start in the Eastern Kingdoms far to the north and visit the Chapel of Hope’s Light. The gloomy theme in the region doesn’t please either of us, and we are glad when we come over from the gray-brown monotony into the green and visit Herdweiler.

Meanwhile, Woife has given up on flying himself and instead made himself comfortable on the back of my two-person mount. He only dismounts now to snap a photo and then takes his seat again, leaving me to do the flying. This way, I would also like to participate in the achievement.

During the selfie in Herdweiler, he notices something: “Fly over there. There by the tower. Is that a door?” Perplexed by his undefinable “over there,” I pause the flight in mid-air. “That?” I ask. “Yes, there. By the tower, I mean.” Next to us is a small gray tower that has a brown spot at one point. We approach. “That must have been intended as a door and was then discarded. Why else would a tower have a brown spot in that location?” speculates my passenger. We fly on.

After a few photo stops, the Deep Run Tram is on our agenda. A tram that connects the two Alliance cities of Stormwind and Ironforge. Alliance territory. The enemy. We as Horde players should head to the Alliance capital, snap two photos, and then get out. Well then, cheers.

We approach Stormwind and devise the plan “Dive from the sky, straight into the portal to the Deep Run Tram. Pull out the camera and take the selfie, and only AFTER that, check if anyone from the opposing faction wants to kill us.” We are lucky. At that time, this part of the capital was about as well visited as a doctor’s waiting room on a Friday afternoon. We have all the time in the world, quickly take down two guards that try to obstruct our way, and then we’re back in the air.

The next highlight is a visit to the Deadmines. The instance has an incredibly long path to the entrance, and of course we have to take the selfie IN the instance. The way to the entrance must be covered on foot, without a mount. I hear Woife constantly talking about how “beautiful it was back then when you had to beat all mobs here. That was a real task.” He convincingly claims, “The best entrance to an instance EVER.”

Chapter 3 – The (small) Shattered World: After the photo in front of the Dark Portal, we head to the old shattered world. The state that one knows from the first expansion “Burning Crusade.” Memories come up. For me, this was my entry into World of Warcraft. Together, we philosophize about the beautiful areas and the ideas Blizzard had back then. Here we have only three stops, one of which is the capital Shattrath. Woife asks why neither of us had the brilliant idea to choose a mage for the journey. “Oh man, we could have saved so much time. But now I’m not switching anymore. We started this in the team, and we will continue like this,” I explain, and he agrees.

On we go to Northrend.

WoW-Selfie-6-Sturmsäule
A quick visit to the Stormspire. Here I reached level 70 with my first character – the then max level.

Chapter 4 – Northrend: “Yes, now we fly to Howling Fjord,” I happily exclaim at the next chapter. “This is my favorite expansion. Not necessarily for the content, but the feeling is so great. WOTLK is nostalgia for me and a cuddly feeling. I like it here,” I continue unsolicited. To my surprise, my passenger is also convinced by at least the Howling Fjord. “The muuuuusic,” he raves. To my shame, I admit that I just disabled the music, but I have wanted to buy the soundtrack for a while now.

I found the soundtrack collection for WoW online a few years ago for a good price. Delivery from the USA was supposed to take two weeks. Three weeks after the shipping confirmation, I inquired about a tracking number. “Unfortunately, we cannot find the package. It’s being canceled. Sorry.” I had cleared a nice spot next to the CD collection of GTA Vice City. Too bad.

We listen to the music and scour all the locations until we stand in front of the Icecrown Citadel. “We need to go in. All the way to the top,” I say. “Are you sure we can’t just reach the tower from the outside?” asks Woife, who then transforms into his flight form and – surprisingly – flies up himself. We land at the top, pull out the camera, snap a photo, and … nothing. No. That doesn’t count. We have to walk through the instance and take down the final boss to then take a photo on his throne.

It is now about twenty past eight. We have been on the way for more than two hours. In between, there was a break for my refreshments and a little round with my dog. Now it’s Woife’s turn, and he wants to make himself something to eat. Afterward, he also has to lie down because he has to get up early on Monday morning. I should finish the rest by myself. He will catch up after work.

We thank each other for the nice evening, and I enter the door to the Icecrown Citadel while my druid friend slowly disappears into the sky.

Chapter 5 – Cataclysm and everything else: On my list, there are still ten locations. Three in the areas of Cataclysm, four with the lovely Pandaren, and three in Draenor. I turn on a stream in the background and fly from place to place. Pull out the camera there, experiment with the filters, and get closer to the big title. Finally, there is only one location left on my map. The instance Auchindoun in Draenor. I fly to the location, enter the instance, and take a final selfie at 9:40 PM. About three and a half hours after the start of the photo marathon in Orgrimmar.

Since I probably won’t use the selfie camera again, I delete the hotkey and icon directly from my action bar.

Here I stand before you. Field photographer. Am I particularly proud of the title? No. Could it have been solved much faster? No question. But without the achievement, I probably wouldn’t have set out with an old friend and relived the beautiful memories.

Do you have similar beautiful memories that you occasionally relive with friends in World of Warcraft or other MMOs?

I had a bad experience when I raided again after a break. My first raid after 9 years shows me what annoys me about it.

Twitch permanently banned a streamer for a very bad joke about God of War

A Twitch-ban is always annoying for streamers, as they lose important income during this time – in the case of a permanent ban perhaps even forever. Such was the case for the Twitch streamer “Skumnut,” as he made an ill-considered joke.

What kind of content creator is this? Skumnut refers to himself as a “Souls guy” and has spent hundreds of hours playing games like Elden Ring, Dark Souls, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (via TwitchTracker). However, another game turned out to be his downfall: God of War.

The streamer told a friend he would kick him to death

Why was Skumnut banned? The YouTuber suspects that a joke he posted in the chat of a friend who is also a streamer was the reason for the ban. Skumnut had written to his friend Mega: “I will kick you to death.”

What was behind the message? Skumnut had just completed a “Kick Only” run in the action-adventure God of War Ragnarök, defeating all enemies exclusively with kicks. For this special challenge, he had streamed almost 10 hours a day for a week.

For the Souls veteran, this was probably quite cool: he had never played any of the “God of War” games before, and this was also his first run ever. Moreover, he was the first to complete a “Kick Only” run on the highest difficulty level.

Apparently, he had been alluding to his success with the message.

The other streamer seemed to be in the know and even commented on the run. Nonetheless, Twitch saw the comment as a violation of their guidelines and suspended Skumnut indefinitely. A drastic step, as this was the first ban for the streamer.

Start video
The 5 biggest Twitch bans that caused a lot of commotion

Why did Twitch impose the ban? The streaming platform has a “zero-tolerance policy” regarding violence. Accounts that violate this policy are suspended indefinitely, even if it is their first offense. There are no “3 strikes” like with other violations.

According to the Twitch Community Guidelines, acts of violence include: “Attempts or threats to physically harm or kill others.” Skumnut’s joke was thus construed as a threat.

Skumnut cannot understand the ban

How did the streamer react? On YouTube, where Skumnut moved after his ban, he posted two videos explaining his perspective on the situation.

In the videos, he makes accusations against Twitch: he received an email in which the officials had coldly lied to him. It mentioned previous violations of which the streamer said he had already been notified in the past.

Skumnut claims to have been unaware of any previous violations and shows a screenshot of his email inbox. The image is meant to display all the emails he received from Twitch. Among the shown messages, there is no warning or suspension up to his permanent ban on November 16.

Is Skumnut now banned forever?

Why is this a topic now? Skumnut has been banned since November, but the case has now been highlighted by journalist Jake Lucky and published on Twitter. Because the ban on the streamer reveals a problem with Twitch.

As Jake Lucky explains, the statement, taken without context, is “quite harsh.” With context, however, it is clear that it was an allusion to the “Kick Only” run and not a threat.

What is the problem? A “suspension indefinite” does not automatically mean a notorious perma-ban: After six months, an appeal can be filed.

That’s exactly what Skumnut did, explaining the situation. His buddy also contacted Twitch and confirmed that it was a joke he was privy to, according to the YouTuber. Nevertheless, the streaming platform did not lift the suspension (via Twitter).

What happens now? Mathematically speaking, Skumnut can attempt to have his suspension lifted again in May. Whether he intends to do that is unclear, as the former Twitch streamer has been doing quite well on YouTube since his ban, where he has 200,000 subscribers – on Twitch, only 10,000 people had followed him.

Fortnite has outsmarted death 3 times, this is how Epic Games achieved it

Fortnite would have almost died 3 times since its release, if Epic Games hadn’t acted correctly. What a crazy story lies behind the battle royale shooter, you can find out here on MeinMMO.

Fortnite has a long history that not every player knows. Many precarious situations forced Epic Games to create Fortnite with its battle royale as many thousands of players know it today.

We take a closer look at these situations and show you how Epic managed to prevent so many deaths of Fortnite.

First Death – The PvE Mode Save the World

Fortnite save the world title

The end shortly after the beginning: Those who have accompanied Fortnite from the beginning probably know the PvE mode “Save the World“. This mode was supposed to carry the game after the release and generate revenue, but that was not the case.

After about 7 years of development, Epic Games missed the hype around zombies and the survival battles in the horde mode, and so the game seemed to disappear again – for now.

A makeshift solution was needed so that Fortnite wouldn’t be permanently shelved, and so the battle royale mode came into play. This was built in less than 10 weeks and integrated for free into the Fortnite launcher.

In line with the “battle royale” hype from the then-over game PUBG, Epic Games also tried its hand at the battle royale with its free game mode and succeeded greatly. Thus, Epic Games outsmarted the first death of Fortnite, but that was just the beginning.

A new debacle was not long in coming.

Second Death – The Lawsuit from PUBG against Fortnite

pubg-title
PUBG, the game that inspired Epic Games a lot

A lawsuit dragged Epic Games to court: The success didn’t take long, because when Epic Games released its battle royale mode, more than 10 million players flocked to the servers in less than 2 weeks.

Now Fortnite led the hype, and the developers of PUBG noticed this. In no time, Epic Games was sued by the Bluehole Studio. It was about serious plagiarism allegations that PUBG presented to the court:

  • Style of the interface
  • the mini-map
  • the overlay of the crosshair
  • the way health points are regenerated
  • the number of players in a match

The whole topic surrounding Fortnite had a bitter aftertaste because the new mode actually seemed like a makeshift solution on Epic’s part to ride the hype around PUBG. Fortnite was even more successful, as the colorful BR shooter was offered for free, unlike PUBG.

Many were waiting for the trial back then, but it never took place. Bluehole Studio quietly withdrew its lawsuit without any statement (via polygon.com). To this day, no one knows what led the developers to this step, but it is rumored to have something to do with the corporate giant “Tencent”.

After this issue, the hype slowly decreased and the next problem was already on its way.

Third Death – Competitive or Casual Game?

Fortnite in an identity crisis: Once the legal dispute was no longer an issue and Fortnite earned more money with continuous live events, battle passes, and skins, a new problem emerged: the dwindling player numbers.

The problem Epic Games had to face was Fortnite’s identity. The battle royale was supposed to focus on a competitive player base at its release. It was meant to be challenging and difficult. Pro players like Ninja, Tfue, Benjyfishy, and Myth were the faces of the game at that time and showcased their building skills in tournaments.

Good for the pros, but bad for casual players. Many couldn’t handle the then-meta of the “double pumps” and the building. Gradually, player numbers dwindled, and the developers noticed this as well. A solution was needed, and thus one of the most defining PR actions in gaming history was created – the event with the black hole.

Start video
Fortnite: The One Time a Black Hole Swallowed You All

Epic Games provided for a reboot of the game after the release of Chapter 2. New map, weapons, bots, better building, and a greater focus on casual players. Gradually, Fortnite shifted from a competitive game towards a social game.

It was meant to be a fresh start, and Fortnite succeeded in this. Concerts by Travis Scott or Ariana Grande attracted many new players to the BR shooter and showed a side of the shooter that no player had seen from a game before.

More and more, Fortnite changed its strategy and even introduced a permanent no-build mode to bring fun to players without building talent.

In this way, Epic Games also averted the third and final death of its game. It is a long story that is not yet finished.

The developers have continually shown that they refuse to be beaten and have skillfully taken their fate into their own hands. One thing is clear: Fortnite will continue to exist for many more years.

What do you think of the story? In your opinion, did Epic Games have luck? Feel free to leave us your thoughts in the comments.

Diablo 4: The Exact Time of Release

The release of Diablo 4 is approaching and Blizzard president Mike Ybarra reveals what time you can play the action RPG in June.

With Diablo 4, the latest installment of the popular action RPG series will be released on June 6 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The beta is already over and players were able to draw an initial conclusion, now everyone is preparing for the release of Diablo 4. But what time can you play on the release day?

Start time for the release of Diablo 4

When does Diablo 4 start? The president of Blizzard, Mike Ybarra, announced the exact start times for the release of Diablo 4 on April 5 (via Twitter). German players can start shortly after midnight.

If you pre-ordered the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition of Diablo 4, you can already play 4 days before the regular release and start on June 2.

  • Early access release (pre-order) – June 2, 2023, at 01:00
  • Regular release – June 6, 2023, at 01:00

The MeinMMO editorial team participated in the beta of Diablo 4. Here is the review of Leya Jankowski, Benedikt Schlotmann, and Benedict Grothaus:

Diablo 4 Beta: Performance and fun are on point, but important questions remain unanswered – The conclusion of the MeinMMO editorial team

During the beta, pre-orders were able to enjoy an early start and play a weekend before everyone else. However, not all classes were playable at that time – the partially overpowered necromancer and the too weak druid for many players were only available in the second beta weekend, which everyone could participate in.

That is different with the full release. All players who start the action RPG on June 2 or 6 can access all five classes from the beginning. In addition to the hunter, barbarian, and wizard, the druid and necromancer are also immediately playable.

MeinMMO editor Alexander Leitsch has summarized all the information about the release of Diablo 4 here:

Player reaches max level 402 days after the release of Elden Ring – „Now you can finally play“

In February 2022, the world was gripped by “Elden Ring” fever. The crisp Soulslike action game captivated millions of players, some of whom are still roaming the Between World today. Like Reddit user Fireman_Artsen – who has now reached max level.

Elden Ring blew everyone away upon release. The ratings were good right away, enthusiastic players flooded the servers, and in February 2023, the developers reported over 20 million copies sold.

What a milestone. And it is actually a brutally difficult niche title that consumes and destroys its players.

But Elden Ring was too good: the well-designed open world, the high quality at release, the motivating gameplay. The grim RPG even convinced casual gamers. The low selection of new games also played into Elden Ring’s hands in early 2022.

More than a year after release, a player is now speaking up on Reddit who simply cannot get enough of Elden Ring and is celebrated for reaching max level.

The Elden Ring community celebrates some players as legends. More about this in the video:

More than 11,000 upvotes were collected by the thread within 6 days. 1,000 comments full of congratulations and silly remarks adorn his success.

Among them, there are also remarks from the legendary South Park episode about World of Warcraft. User Saendra writes: ‘Congratulations, now you can finally play the game.’

The max-level player Fireman_Artsen also shares some info about his success. He spent over 700 hours in Elden Ring, but on different characters. He estimates that about 500 hours are on the max-level character.

Our Webedia colleagues at MMG calculated that it takes around 1,692,558,415 runes to reach level 713 (via millenium.org).

The question often arises about how he did it or whether he has tips for rune farming. However, Fireman_Artsen can only offer a few tips; he simply played:

This is my release day character, so I mostly just played during his life. PvP, coop, NewGame+. I didn’t care about stopping at an optimal PvP level, so I just kept going. Then I collected all the weapons and armor, got into NewGame+8, and realized the max level was in reach, so I just went for it. I farmed Albinaurics for a long time, but was often summoned as well.

Once again, an incredible achievement in a game that wants to eat you and take you out in one hit. Patience, stamina, and a desire for Elden Ring for over 400 days. Hats off.

Elden Ring has shaped the gaming year 2022 like very few other games, and the Soulslike RPG continues. With “Shadow of the Erdtree” a DLC brings fresh content and a new story.

18 game titles from the translator – Is your English bad enough to recognize them?

We present to you 18 titles of games that have been poorly translated into German by translation machines (or by us). Can you recognize them all?

Machine translations are practical and quite good nowadays – at least most of the time. Again and again, you come across texts online that clearly show they were translated from another language by a poor algorithm.

Especially as a games journalist, you often stumble upon such cases. During my research on the 30 most successful gaming franchises in the world, I noticed several of these bad translations.

This quiz was originally published in June 2022.
The Mario franchise is the most successful when it comes to games. One of the few names that are the same in every language.

With some games, I had difficulty even recognizing at first glance what they were supposed to be. So I thought: I’ll ask the clever readers of MeinMMO if they feel just as clueless about the titles.

Title Quiz – Can you recognize the titles in German?

What kind of titles are these? The titles are all games that are somewhat known worldwide or at least in the West and Germany. This includes big blockbusters but also one or two older games and niche games. There are games for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, mobile, and more.

Here are some lists that might help you recognize one or the other title:

The titles are chosen so that you should be able to figure out some of them with a little thought – others might be more difficult, especially if you don’t know the game itself. Most should explain themselves.

For the translations, I took some machine translations from random websites, as well as conjured up some of my own. Have fun!

How does the quiz work? In the flip quiz, you see the name of the game title on the front of the card. Click or tap it to turn it over when you think you have recognized the title.

On the back, you’ll see the solution. I decided on this type of quiz to avoid leading you to the right answer through multiple-choice or letting you guess randomly. So be fair to yourselves when evaluating the results!

Pokémon GO: Top raids with the new Regieleki are running today – All info

On Easter Sunday, a top raid event starts in Pokémon GO. These raids are characterized by their special difficulty. For the first time, you can battle and catch the new Pokémon Regieleki there.

What kind of event is this? The top raids in Pokémon GO take place regularly and usually last for a single day at selected times. The next event of this kind is already coming up this Sunday.

We show you everything you need to know about the top raids with Regieleki here in the overview.

Top Raids with Regieleki: Times, Shiny, and Research

What times are the top raids running?

What are top raids? Top raids are similar to normal raid battles but are more difficult. The special eggs visible over the gyms take 24 hours to hatch. This gives you plenty of time to remember an appointment for such a raid.

After hatching, you have 30 minutes to challenge a raid boss. It is important that you can only participate in top raids on-site. Remote raiding is not possible.

Which Pokémon is this? Regieleki is a legendary Pokémon that belongs to the Electric type. It makes its debut in Pokémon GO at the top raids. However, you cannot catch it in its shiny form at the top raids yet.

If you want to catch Regieleki this season, the top raids on April 9 are your only chance for that.

Timed research: Update from April 6 at 7:05 PM: Niantic announced on Twitter that the timed research for this event will be canceled. The reason for this is the awarding of research that they want to improve. The timed research will be released at a later time, which is still unclear.

This is how the research was planned: If you participate in a top raid, you can also take part in a timed research. For completing the tasks, you will be rewarded with candies for Regirock, Regice, and Registeel.

Will you participate in the top raids on Sunday or are you busy during the holidays? In April, you can expect many more events in Pokémon GO.

World of Warcraft is more than just a game – It is a piece of home

World of Warcraft is more than just a game for many gamers. Azeroth has long become a piece of home – even for MeinMMO demon Cortyn.

Video games have a great influence on our daily lives – no gamer would deny that. After all, they are our favorite hobby. And the games are often the biggest time wasters beside work, the thing we spend most of our waking lives on.

But only a few games have had such a great impact on me as World of Warcraft did. It is time for a tribute to the game that has moved me more than any other game before it.

Note: The article originally dates back to 2017. We have updated it for Easter 2023.

A world known inside and out

If someone were to drag me out of bed at 4:00 AM, I could explain exactly how to navigate through the Blackrock Depths to reach the final boss as if it were second nature. I could still explain how to complete a tribute run in Stratholme and still know exactly which tent in Thunder Bluff to find the vendors I am looking for.

World of Warcraft Cataclysm

However, if someone were to ask me how exactly to get to the nearest savings bank, I would have to think for at least a moment about the directions.

I believe this is exactly why “Cataclysm” was a problem for many long-time players. The overhaul of the old world did WoW good and made the zones more sensible and exciting. But it was indeed a piece of home that was changed. People no longer knew exactly where everything was, and a few cherished memories began to fade.

It’s a bit like the old kitchen where you used to munch on your mother’s delicious pancakes after school for years. When the money was finally enough for a new kitchen, the pancakes were still just as delicious. But somehow the old flair was missing. And that the cutlery now lies in the second drawer from the left instead of the first, one will never really get used to.

WoW players: Loyal, foolish, and blind to mistakes?

Time and again, you hear that fans forgive too much after so many years of WoW. Some players are only still attached to WoW because they have gotten used to it. And to a certain extent, that is true.

WoW Draenei Embracing the Fel

However, that does not mean one loses sight of the mistakes. Because I know WoW so well, annoying bugs immediately stand out to me that I would not notice in other games.

One example? The face tentacles of female Draenei characters clipped into their bodies during a patch. I could be annoyed all day about how Blizzard could overlook such a bug. When I look at my character and see that the tentacles are now fused into the shoulder instead of resting lightly on the collarbone or swinging back and forth slightly while moving, it makes me sad. It’s such a small detail, and yet it suddenly wasn’t “my” Draenei anymore.

Yet, it is exactly this feeling that WoW still evokes after more than a decade that makes WoW special.

I can still get caught up in a hype when a new expansion is announced. And I can still grind my teeth when some feature has been cut or a mechanic is no fun.

The second home, Azeroth

No other game manages to pull me back in time and again. Then I return and sink into the world for a while even after not playing for half a year.

WoW Draenei Drawing Power
No other game manages to pull Cortyn in so often.

The 24-hour sessions in role-playing games, the great successes as a 40-person raid, the laughter on TeamSpeak when someone gets killed by the elevator boss again. All these memories stand on equal footing with “real” experiences, as they also came about with other people.

After all the time I have spent in World of Warcraft, and with all the friendships that developed over well over a decade first in WoW and then in the “real world,” I can only come to one conclusion: Azeroth has become a “second home” for me – one that is always accessible, even when the address in the real world changes.

All of this makes WoW more than just a game for me.

Have you also built such a bond with WoW or another game? Or are all games just a temporary diversion for you, in which you don’t really want to lose yourself?

Teacher streams lessons on Twitch, now has hundreds of viewers: “Was only intended for my students at first”

Teacher Mr. Gerold has been looking for new ways to reach his students and impart knowledge to them. He found them on platforms usually known for gaming: Twitch and YouTube.

The Corona pandemic and the associated lockdowns have moved many professions to home office in order to reduce the risk of infection. This also included teachers, who held their lessons via Zoom or similar services.

One of these teachers was Alex Gerold from Cologne, who took a step further. To accommodate his students, he began uploading videos of his lessons to YouTube and also streaming on Twitch.

We talked to “Mr. Gerold” in an interview about his streams.

The article originally appeared in May 2022 on MeinMMO.

“At the beginning, the videos were only intended for my students…”

MeinMMO: Hello! Please introduce yourself to our readers. Who are you? What do you do for a living and in your free time?

Alex: Hey, my name is Alex Gerold, I am a vocational school teacher and IHK examiner from Cologne. I mainly teach in the training occupation of office management clerk. When I’m not at school, I do a lot of sports, meet friends, or cheer for FC Cologne in the stadium.

MeinMMO: You run Twitch and YouTube channels on your teaching topic. How did you come up with the idea to specifically start streaming?

Alex: Many teachers switched to tools like Zoom during the pandemic period. During the Corona pandemic, we conducted online classes with Microsoft Teams. That worked great, but I wanted to give my students the opportunity to access the learning content at any time, independent of class time.

That’s when I quickly thought of YouTube, and “Mr. Gerold” was born. At first, the videos were actually only intended for my students, but as it often goes (laughs).

By now, the videos have 2.5 million views. The idea of Twitch came to me accidentally while channel surfing on YouTube. I saw that many YouTubers like Montanablack upload their live streams from Twitch to YouTube. That’s how I got into Twitch and thought that this platform is perfect for providing live tutoring to a wide audience.

On Alex’s YouTube channel, you can find both short explanatory videos and proper exam simulations.

MeinMMO: You started with relatively short explanatory videos on various questions. What kinds of formats have you tried since then?

Alex: At the beginning, I made many short videos with a maximum runtime of 10 minutes. Sometimes that’s not so easy and certain things can’t be explained or related in such a short time.

That’s why I also created some longer videos that worked surprisingly well. It’s important that you don’t make the videos boring, but use practical examples and explain things as simply as possible.

Once, I made a quiz series. I was out in the woods on a treasure hunt, and the viewers had to help me solve various puzzles with lesson questions. I had a great time, but the videos weren’t clicked as often (laughs).

“It’s unusual at first to stream on Twitch in front of 200-300 viewers”

MeinMMO: How does feedback from your viewers influence the content on your channel? Can they suggest a video on a specific topic, for example?

Alex: I regularly conduct surveys on YouTube, Twitch, or Instagram. You can already tell that certain topics come up frequently. These include accounting or booking entries. The response is also greater for these topics. I generally have close contact with my community and try to answer all messages as best as I can.

MeinMMO: How does teaching and tutoring via YouTube and Twitch differ from regular frontal teaching via Zoom from your experience?

Alex: It’s unusual at first to stream on Twitch in front of 200-300 viewers you don’t know while teaching only your class on Teams. But surprisingly, you get used to it quickly, and the same people keep popping up in the chat, so a sense of group forms quickly.

Of course, normal online lessons with the class are different and more intimate just because of the microphone function, but the fun factor on Twitch is quite high with the chat function and various tools like giveaways or quizzes.

On Twitch, Alex mainly streams in the categories Education, Outdoors, and Just Chatting. By the way, the next stream is on Sunday.

MeinMMO: What advantages and disadvantages do you see with Twitch and YouTube for your work?

Alex: I believe the biggest advantage is the recognition and popularity of the platforms among young people. It gives me great pleasure to do something meaningful, and I am thrilled with all the positive messages that I receive daily.

At the same time, however, the pressure also increases to meet the demands and expectations of the viewers. Many forget that this is my hobby and I am not a full-time streamer or YouTuber. I am still a passionate teacher in the classroom.

Teaching channels don’t get enough attention

MeinMMO: What difficulties do teaching channels face?

Alex: The loyalty of the viewers understandably only lasts as long as the education lasts. Why should you rewatch the learning videos afterwards?

Furthermore, there is unfortunately not much media and political attention for teaching channels. Totally undeserved. YouTubers like Lehrer Schmidt or Daniel Jung have saved the behinds of a whole generation of students.

Social media is also always entertainment. We live in a consumer society where everything has to be fast and entertaining. This is difficult for teaching channels (Mr. Lawyer does it very well).

“Lehrer Schmidt” (1.37 million subscribers) and “Mathe by Daniel Jung” (852,000 subscribers) are teaching channels on YouTube that publish tutorial videos on topics from mathematics. The videos are often short, concise explanations of individual questions within various mathematical areas such as geometry, calculus, etc.

MeinMMO: Your channels originated in connection with the Corona pandemic. How do you see your future now that restrictions have been lifted?

Alex: Corona was definitely a boost for the videos, but I still believe in the concept.

I recently started a podcast. I’m also experimenting with TikTok. Dance videos with my students, for example, cringe (laughs).

I don’t have concrete plans. I will keep going as long as I have fun with it. Right now, I’m having a lot of fun, and the positive feedback motivates me to keep going.

MeinMMO: What tips would you give to teachers who want to connect more with their students?

Alex: Just do it! And above all: Use the platforms that the students know. Exchange ideas with your students and ask them for their opinions and wishes. That’s the beauty of the teaching profession: You are very close to your target group.

We sincerely thank Alex for the interview and wish him continued fun and success with his activities on Twitch and YouTube.

I got into a sex limousine in GTA Online and flew over Los Santos

In GTA Online, I experienced what is probably the craziest session I have ever encountered, thanks to a modder. And I have seen a lot.

What happened? I regularly log into GTA Online, spin the lucky wheel, and complete my daily tasks. It often happens that modders use their cheat menus to influence the experience of other lobby participants. This can be negative, causing a complete blackout for all players where they can only see black.

Often, you also encounter god mode hackers who cannot be killed. Well, almost.

However, I got lucky during my session. A modder was with me and many other players in the lobby. He wanted everyone to have fun. And before I knew it, I was already in a sex limousine flying over the vast online world of Los Santos.

This article was originally published in July 2020 and has been updated for you in April 2023.

My Adventure with Limos, Transformers, and the Driving Hamburger

It all started like this: In the online lobby chat, a message from a player popped up that sounded something like “WOAH, what is THAT?” Followed by numerous smileys expressing his joy. Curious as I am, I immediately jumped into my car and searched for the player on the map. I didn’t have to search long before the guy overtook me in a hamburger.

No, not a person from Hamburg. Yes, the food. No, he didn’t hold it in his hand. HE WAS DRIVING A HAMBURGER!

GTA Online Hamburger Car
A modder applied this hamburger skin to a tank vehicle. It looks like a royal cheeseburger is speeding down the streets – rolling on two buns

I couldn’t miss the opportunity and then also got into the burger vehicle and cruised through the streets. You wouldn’t believe how fast such a meatball bun can become.

As I finished my joyride, a player messaged me in the chat. He said I should stand still.

Normally, I should have been suspicious at this point and immediately switched to passive mode. But after my culinary adventure, I felt so exhilarated that I just waited. Just five seconds later, a sex limousine teleported next to me.

I quickly recognized that it had to be a sexualized version of this multi-person vehicle. On the roof, there was a giant pole with a whopping eighteen times the “69” attached. A clear reference to the sexual position that has become a popular meme on the internet.

GTA Online Sex Limo
Huup Huup – Your taxi is here

As a good citizen of Los Santos, I, of course, immediately got in. Instead of speeding down the streets with that oversized pole on the roof, the limo took off. Together with another player, the modder and I then flew in this sex limo over Los Santos.

Because we apparently weren’t attracting enough attention from the other players, the modder then activated a bright color change. Now we were flying with an RGB sex limo over the city, stopping next to astonished players. Honestly? I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face.

The grand finale of this fun afternoon took place at the Los Santos airport. Here, the modder spawned a huge transformer, built from tanks and a jet. A giant, sad face hovered over the body. The “device” was incredibly fast, zooming from one side to the other across the runway. Followed by a horde of police cars trying in vain to stop this gigantic transformer with their puny machine guns.

It went on like this for about twenty minutes, with more crazy vehicles being spawned by the modder from his menu in between.

Conclusion: Sometimes Modders are Nice Too

Here’s what I learned: Up until now, my experiences with modders in GTA Online have been negative. I have over 1800 gameplay hours in GTA Online and have encountered quite a few hackers/modders over the last few years. So far, this afternoon was the best encounter with these players.

I would gladly encounter them again at the next event in the online world. Rockstar recently announced that GTA Online will soon receive its biggest update ever. And I’m really looking forward to it.

Diablo 4: The best builds for each class with specialization and gameplay

Diablo 4 has successfully completed its Open Beta, and MeinMMO has taken an overview of which builds are on top after the big test.

Update from April 8th: We have adjusted the article, incorporating and updating Necro gameplay.

What will I find here? We present the best builds for each class that we have been able to test or confirm so far. Currently, only builds for level 25 are included, the max level for the recent Open Beta of Diablo 4.

For each build, you will find a short description of how the class plays, as well as a gameplay video to give you an impression of the playstyle. Talents, abilities, and legendaries in detail can be found in the linked guide.

The list will be expanded over time as we find more builds to present. If you are still unsure what you want to play, here is an overview of which class suits you best.

The best builds for the Barbarian

Bleeding Barbarian with self-healing

As a Barbarian, you rely on using different weapons. The bleeding build from MeinMMO editor Maik Schneider focuses on inflicting enemies with many stacks of the bleeding debuff.

You mow through a horde of enemies and let them bleed out slowly. For many enemies, it is enough just to wait and move on. You also heal yourself robustly in the process.

By the way: This is how you change weapons as a Barbarian. You can see what the build looks like here:

Diablo 4: Beta gameplay – Barbarian

The best builds for the Druid

Werewolf Druid leading his own pack

As a Werewolf Druid, you command 3 additional werewolves and strengthen them with your abilities. With your buffs, you improve the wolves, poison enemies, and tear them apart as a pack.

The biggest advantages are that you continually heal yourself in the process and can hardly die, while also serving as a support for other players. You are well placed, especially in groups.

A major problem is that Druids are generally considered weak, but the build makes them quite playable. You can see the gameplay here:

Diablo 4: Gameplay of the Werewolf Druid against World Boss Ashava

The best builds for the Huntress

Melee Huntress as an assassin

The Huntress is actually popular as a ranged fighter, but I had much more fun as a melee rogue during the test. The build fights with whirling blades and a lot of agility.

You dance around groups of enemies, dodging all attacks and eliminating opponents with flying knives and shadow magic. Your greatest strength is the mobility with which you fly across the battlefield.

The build does have some problems with bosses, but I was able to kill the world boss Ashava with it without dying:

Diablo 4 features huge bosses like an MMO – And they drop really good loot

The best builds for the Necromancer

1-button Necromancer with blood mist

Necromancers often play with skeletons as servants. However, the blood mist build only uses one ability to wipe out entire hordes of enemies, and companions are more of a nice addition.

While you do not have to do much to succeed with the build, you do need a specific legendary; without it, the build simply does not work. However, you can keep yourself alive against any enemy with it.

Here you will find classic Necro gameplay with skeletons and corpse explosions. Here is what the build looks like without the special legendary:

Diablo 4: Beta Gameplay – Necromancer

The best builds for the Sorceress

Frost Sorceress that kills everything in seconds

The Frost Sorceress uses ice spikes to shred enemies. It utilizes the ability not just for itself but especially its passive effect through the special class mechanic of the Sorceress.

When you use other cooldowns, you summon more ice spikes on nearby enemies. This way, you can kill just about anything in seconds.

We unfortunately do not have our own gameplay for the build yet, but you can find the build in action from YouTuber positron1223 here:

Lightning Sorceress for bosses and leveling

The Lightning Sorceress is weaker against large masses of enemies but can effectively combat smaller groups and single targets. Additionally, no enemy can ever get too close to you thanks to the crackling sparks.

The big advantage is that you rarely have to stand still. You are constantly on the move, gathering sparks while your lightning spells chase and kill enemies. Furthermore, you hardly need legendaries for the build to work.

MeinMMO video producer Anna Alberg conquered a fortress solo with the build:
