Palworld has announced a new spin-off, which is set to become an MMO. Instead of just playing with your friends, you could soon experience Palworld with many more players. The ideas for this are numerous.
What kind of new game is this? Palworld has been a real success since its 1.0 release. Over 30 million copies sold and around another 10 million players through the Xbox and PC Game Pass speak for themselves. Now, developer Pocketpair and publisher Garena want to build on this success.
Palworld Online is the name of the project, developed and published by Garena under official license from Pocketpair. Instead of a simple port, it is meant to become a real mobile MMO for iOS and Android, translating the depth of the PC original into a permanently connected online world.
Here you can watch a current trailer for Palworld:
Palworld becomes an MMO, but at what cost?
What should the game look like? According to the official announcement, you will roam through a seamlessly connected, shared game world with your Pals, where you will encounter other players, form communities, and build shared settlements just like in guilds in the main game.
The content ranges from cooperative PvE encounters to PvP matches. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, you can visit other players’ bases, hunt rare Pals together, or join forces as a group against powerful world bosses.
New side stories will also be created exclusively for Palworld Online, in addition to the known story and lore from the main game.
What is conceivable? The idea behind it makes a lot of sense. Palworld is already significantly more enjoyable for many of its fans on PC when played together rather than alone; however, local multiplayer on phones presents its own challenges. Mobile players are less likely to rent their own servers, as is common on PC.
A persistent MMO that players can simply join is, therefore, more appealing to the mobile audience than the server model of the PC version. At the same time, this live-service approach opens up opportunities for regular new content and updates that keep the game fresh over time.
Additionally, there are already several systems ready to be adapted, such as the guild system that already exists on PC.
A fundamentally clever idea, although the platform decision to go with a free-to-play style mobile MMO instead of a classic spin-off may be a thorn in the side of many PC fans of the brand. There is no specific release date yet; according to Garena, Palworld Online is expected to be released in 2026, with further details, including a timeline, to be provided later.
Palworld aims to captivate mobile gamers after PC and consoles and chooses an approach that could make the game a very enjoyable endeavor. Do you also feel that way?
