Blizzard has raised the torment levels in Diablo 4 with Lord of Hatred to 12, and many players reach even the highest without major problems. The actual hurdle in the endgame right now, however, is a very specific resource.
What resource is it? For many players, large gems are currently virtually unattainable. The reason for this is the massive costs of gem fragments, Forgotten Souls, and gold. One player reports on Reddit that despite Paragon Level 239, he still hasn’t been able to craft a single large gem.
To get the necessary fragments, players specifically farm Nightmare Dungeons and choose their war plans accordingly. Nevertheless, the yield is often not enough even after many hours to craft a large gem – not to mention the even more powerful stones from the Horadric Cube.
Not necessary for the content – but for the season rank
Are the gems absolutely necessary? They are definitely helpful for the high torment levels, but not strictly necessary. Many players manage the content even with smaller variants that also offer bonuses on resistances, core stats, or damage multipliers.
In the comments, users also emphasize that they have mastered torment 12 and even defeated Mephisto and Lilith before they could craft their first large gem. However, the stones are mainly a bonus for casual players to boost stats early on and tackle difficult content.
However, anyone who wants to complete their season ranks cannot avoid crafting. Three tasks in the season rank progression relate to crafting large, horadric, and flawless horadric gems.
By the way, for a flawless horadric gem, you need a whopping 25 large gems – or concretely: 25 million fragments and 250 million gold.
In light of this grind, many players are demanding higher drop rates at torment 12. While lower levels increase the chances of certain items, torment 11 and 12 currently offer no special bonuses. Whether Blizzard will make adjustments here remains to be seen. One player has not only crafted the powerful gems from the Horadric Cube in Diablo 4 but has also disassembled them – and is now warning the community about it.
