MeinMMO author Johanna found a dungeon crawler on Steam where she can not only fight with her weapons but also date them.
Romancing options in games don’t really interest me. They are unimportant to me unless I can derive some real gameplay benefit from them. Still, I tried a dating simulator this weekend, but only because it’s actually a dungeon crawler.
I’m talking about Boyfriend Dungeon. At first hearing, it sounds like a game where you lock your boyfriends in a dungeon… or free them from dungeons, depending on your mood. However, it is a roguelite where you have to fight monsters in a dungeon over and over again. Your weapons are not just your costly companions, but something more can develop between you.

Boyfriend Dungeon has exactly two sides: One is an action-packed dungeon crawler in roguelite style, which reminds me of Hades 2, and the other is a cozy dating sim.
In the dungeons, you can kill monsters to save the Dunj
and receive rewards in the form of gold. You can then use this gold during the day to go on romantic dates with your weapons. You’ll learn more about the characters and their backstory, while there is also a main story to follow.
In total, there are 9 weapons you can fight with. They all have different styles and the characters they transform into are unique as well. Thus, the dating aspect doesn’t get boring.
The game offers me the perfect mix of action and relaxation. In the dungeons, I’m focused, striving to get as far as possible, and then I can relax and enjoy a part of the story again. Somehow, I fell in love with all the characters while playing, as they each have something great and unique about them that makes them interesting.
The only drawback: It’s way too short! After about 6 hours, you can already complete the main story. If you want to experience everything, it will take about 5 hours longer, but I would have preferred to spend a double-digit number of hours in the game.

By the way, my first real video game love was Judy from Cyberpunk. It didn’t end well, but I still wanted more of it: Judy in Cyberpunk 2077 breaks my heart – and I want more of it
