For months, fans have speculated about how expensive GTA 6 will be. Now the price is set, and it will likely have an impact on the entire industry.
How expensive will GTA 6 be? The standard version of GTA 6 costs 80 euros in Germany, and for 20 euros more, there is the Ultimate Edition with various benefits. Previously, there had been speculation about whether the Rockstar hit would even be more expensive. Prices over 100 euros were being discussed.
However, even with the now confirmed 80 euros, GTA 6 will likely change the entire gaming market if analysts are to be believed.

Publishers are getting ahead of themselves
What do analysts believe? Analysts, in conversations with GamesRadar+, have shared their predictions about the impact of the price on the entire industry.
They believe that GTA 6 will lead many other publishers to offer their full-price titles for 80 euros as well, and Ultimate Editions for the new premium price will likely become common.
Analyst David Cole from DFC Intelligence explains: “The industry has already been moving towards this price level, led by Nintendo.” The company recently released the new Mario Kart for the Switch 2 for 80 euros.
Will this be accepted? Here, experts are much more skeptical. According to analyst Joost van Dreunen, the new price point of 80 euros is reserved only for a few select titles and franchises. At the same time, he believes that many publishers will now try to sell their titles for 80 euros as well, and will ultimately burn their fingers.
David Cole adds: “The problem is that there are only a handful of premium games that justify this price.” This price point is “reserved only for the most sought-after games with a pre-existing target audience. […] The industry is moving towards a tiered pricing model that recognizes that some games simply offer much higher value than others and should be priced accordingly.”
Joost van Dreunen simultaneously emphasizes that video games are increasingly becoming a luxury product. He says:
“The economics of this sector have always been based on a model where the winner takes the lion’s share, and GTA 6 raises the bar again. Publishers who can overcome this hurdle will continue to expand their lead, while those who cannot will have to compete in distribution and find new channels, bundles, and pricing models to reach players who are not attracted by the blockbusters.”
