So far, the first trainers have been able to catch Mega Mewtwo in Pokémon GO. They have revealed details that are likely to shock some trainers.
How can trainers already have the monster? While the majority of the world still has to wait a bit to catch Mega Mewtwo at the global GO Fest 2026, some trainers can already enjoy the monster. The first local edition of the event is already taking place in Tokyo next weekend.
Since Monday, May 25, 2026, there has been a limited research project active there, rewarding trainers with one of the two Mega Mewtwo forms. This indicates that it could be quite challenging to obtain both forms or to raise them to the maximum Mega level.
Best Monsters, Highest Demands
What is the difficulty? As a post on Reddit shows, a whopping 7,500 Mega Energy is required for a Mega Evolution of either of Mewtwo’s forms. While you likely also receive the research in the global portion of the event and can obtain one form relatively easily, you’ll need to gather the energy for the second Mega Evolution through raids.
At least the Mewtwo that you receive through the research starts with a Mega level right from the beginning. So you can save on the costs here accordingly.
If the amount of Mega Energy for Mega Mewtwo raids is generally in the range of comparable Mega raids, it will be an incredibly difficult task to gather the necessary energy. In the past, there were about 80 – 120 Mega Energy for such a raid.
If you want to raise the Mega level of Mewtwo directly to the maximum stage, you will need to invest an additional 7,640 Mega Energy. Alternatively, you can wait as usual until you can trigger the Mega Evolution without costs each time to increase the level.
