Recently, a game on Steam made headlines, for which the developer proudly charges 100 euros, although it was almost entirely created with AI. A new extension for Google Chrome wants to warn you about such games on the platform, but it also has its limitations.
What kind of game is this? The sci-fi game KRYONULL is a visual novel that was released on Steam on June 13, 2026, and is developed by NovelkaGames. However, the game made headlines for negative reasons twice.
Not only were “all images and voices in the game, as well as on the shop page” created with AI according to reports on Steam – the developers also demand nearly 100 euros for the game. We have already reported about KRYONULL here.
If you want to be completely spared from such games in the future, you might be happy about a new add-on for Google Chrome. It warns you about AI in games, even before you see the store page.
Add-on warns about AI in games, so you don’t have to search
What kind of extension is this? The extension has the simple name “AI warning for Steam” and is available for free in the Chrome Web Store. And it does exactly what it promises: It warns you about games on Steam that use AI-generated content.
If you want to publish a game on Steam, you must comply with Valve’s guidelines for AI content. This means: Developers must specify whether they used AI for the development of their game and, if so, for what exactly. This notice will then be displayed on the game’s shop page, directly before the system requirements.
The extension automatically searches the Steam page of games for this disclaimer. If it finds one, you will see it as a pop-up. As long as this pop-up is open, the shop page will only be displayed blurred. This way, you can decide for yourself if you want to take a look at the game (despite the use of AI) or not.

Where does the tool reach its limits? Logically, the tool only works for games on Steam, as it can only access the information from the disclaimers there. Additionally, since it is a browser extension, it does not work in the app.
If you use a different browser than Google Chrome, you also need to check if this extension is available for your browser of choice. There is one for Firefox, but perhaps not for other browsers.
If AI in video games is a real mood killer for you, this add-on might still be worth it for you despite its limitations. This way, you know right away where and how AI was used, without spending time looking for the disclaimer yourself.
AI is already ubiquitous in the gaming industry, not only in the multitude of slop games that you see. According to the head of Google Cloud, many big titles have already been developed using AI, including real hits: “Your favorite games have already been built with AI”: A Google executive says almost every major studio uses AI, but not all admit it
