On Steam, new games are released daily. Alongside the latest AAA titles, small indie gems, or AFK clickers, there is now a game that has been created almost entirely by AI and costs more than most other games on our planet.
What kind of game is it? With the science fiction game KRYONULL, a new visual novel was released on Steam on June 13, 2026. At first glance, it looks like a classic game of the genre set in a distant future. However, upon closer inspection and reading the note on the Steam store page, it becomes clear that this game was created almost entirely by AI.
The disclosure regarding AI-generated content states: “All images and voices in the game as well as on the shop page were generated using AI.”
Apparently, the script of the story is one of the few things still created by a human. The heavy use of AI alone is already a major point of criticism, but the price is another thorn in the side.
100 euros for original full-HD backgrounds from AI
What makes the game special? Besides the use of AI and the proud price of 99.99 euros, the game is supposed to offer an experience for the player. KRYONULL promises some special features, such as the many different endings that can be experienced through personal choices.
But the last point of KRYONULL’s features is tempting: “Original background graphics in 1920×1080 (i.e., full HD) for Europe (moon of Jupiter), the ocean under the ice, laboratories, the orbit, and mission-critical scenes.”
If all of this hasn’t convinced you, there is also a trailer available on Steam showing 4 of the original background images, and you can count how often the cursor passes through the image.
While NovelkaGames relies almost exclusively on AI, companies like Microsoft realize that replacing workers isn’t as cheap as it seems. There the total bill for computing power and tokens can be higher than the wage costs for the same work: Companies like Microsoft have discovered: The use of AI is more expensive than paying human employees
