Destiny-2-Titelbild-Ticker.jpg

Destiny has shaped a new shooter genre with its gameplay, but now ends Bungie has concluded the active development of the game after about 12 years. Monument of Triumph, therefore, brings one last surprise for its fans before the game goes into maintenance mode. We are, of course, also at the start and are following this special day with you in our live ticker.

Good morning and welcome back! We now summarize the community’s impressions of the update. Overall, it can be said that “Monument of Triumph” was a complete success, although many players mainly came to visit out of nostalgia and to pay final respects to Destiny 2.

At launch, there were up to 167,000 players on Steam at peak. Days later, interest did not immediately wane but fell to 133,000 players, showing that Guardians are eager to explore all the new features and content of the update.

On Reddit, it seems as if nothing has happened, as many players are discussing secrets and puzzles – just the discussions surrounding the final secret mission and its Exo remind us of a time when such moments were part of daily life (Source: Reddit).

And those who aren’t in the mood to get lost in the new content are spending hours outfitting their Guardians with the new cosmetic items. Just on DestinyFashion on Reddit, there were countless posts about new combinations, and they look really good!

Overall, it can therefore be said that Bungie has achieved exactly what they wanted with Monument of Triumph: to bring back as many players as possible. Even if it’s clear that the loot shooter will never reach such player numbers again, it has still been a lovely event to bid farewell to Destiny 2 properly. Thank you, Bungie!

Incredible how fast the time has passed. If you would like to read it, feel free to check it out here. I would also love to read about your experiences in the comments!

Also, the official artists of various key arts, designs, and illustrations at Bungie have spoken up. On XCancel, the entire art team thanks the fans because without them, the artists would never have been able to create such a beautiful world as Destiny. The “Monuments of Triumph” update is meant to be a love letter to the community – with many things for you to look forward to. We have translated the entire message from the team into the gray box – feel free to open it if you wish:

Message from the Bungie Artists

To the Destiny 2 community,

Thank you.

As artists, it has always been our goal to create worlds full of wonder, mysteries, beauty, and adventure. But it is you who breathe life into these worlds. You take our designs, our sketches on napkins, and our “Wouldn’t it be cool if…” ideas and turn them into something real. Your creativity, your passion, and your love for the game give our work meaning.

We have always believed that Destiny can be a place where self-expression is celebrated, where players find themselves and each other in the worlds we create, and where every Guardian can forge their own legend – and you have proven that.

Watching your Guardians grow, find new allies, defeat ever more powerful bosses, solve tricky puzzles, dodge deadly traps and the onslaught of the Taken, and master every raid challenge we throw at you – while looking fantastic – has always reminded us why this universe matters.

You have shaped it. You have given it meaning. You are the light of Destiny.

With “Monument of Triumph,” we wanted to create a series of love letters to both new and experienced Guardians. Last week, we provided a taste of armor inspired by early concepts of the original Destiny; additionally, we’ve included some small nods and hidden details in the rewards coming out tomorrow. We hope they feel like a small thank you for everything you have given us.

On behalf of the entire Destiny 2 art team: Thank you for supporting us, inspiring us, and continuing to breathe life into this world in a way we could never have envisioned. You give our art meaning.

With gratitude,
The Destiny 2 Art Team

Just yesterday, we reported that the voice actress of Ikora Rey thanked the community for the wonderful years with Destiny 2 and now your Guardian has personally reported.

Peter Jessop, the voice behind the male Guardian, whom many should also know from Destiny 1, appeared on camera and spoke many touching words about the shared journey through Destiny with the community.

Good morning Guardians, and welcome to our probably last live ticker for Destiny 2. Who would have thought that our loot shooter would eventually come to an end… But here we are now. So let’s not fall into sadness and celebrate this evening properly with fellow Guardians. I can’t wait to dive into the massive amount of content – it’s about time we get an SRL after all these years, right?

What happened to Destiny 2? After nearly 12 years, Bungie is ending the development of its loot shooter. Destiny 2 is set to go into maintenance mode after today’s release of the major update “Monument of Triumph.”

There are no big DLCs or seasons planned for the future. Also, a Destiny 3 seems unlikely at this point. For many, it marks the end of an era, as the loot shooter offered unmatched gunplay and a deep story that could captivate players.

Whether the story of the Guardians will ever continue is unclear, but for many, it matters less today. The Guardians are making plans for this evening to celebrate the shooter and make one last desperate search for the best loot with their fireteam. Join us as we also check the servers this evening and enjoy the night with you.

Before we say goodbye for today, let’s briefly summarize the community’s first impressions. Many fans on Reddit are enthusiastic, especially thanks to the massive amount of free cosmetic items. Besides that, many are also glad that they managed to bring the servers to their knees one last time as a community, even though a large part of the players, especially from the US, has not had the chance to log in yet. Player numbers will likely continue to rise.

Tomorrow, we will report again with our ticker and summarize the community’s opinions in more detail. Until then, and good night!

Servers Collapse Due to High Player Numbers

Who would have thought, over 145,000 players just on Steam – and still rising. The servers were not used to such a number of players, as they briefly crashed due to the heavy load! It seems to be running stably now, but who knows how long that will last. I currently see the warning that the servers are being contacted again…

Destiny-2-Spielerzahlen-2.jpg

7:42 PM

HELP!!! I’m just going through every tab in the armor collection and not even starting to look at the armors under “Universal Ornaments.” There are so many new ones that have joined, and when trying to inspect and going back to the catalog, I have to scroll through every page again! But one has to give Bungie credit, these are among the best cosmetic items they have ever created.

7:34 PM

Okay, I managed to log in again. Let’s see if the servers run stably now or if we get kicked out again.

7:31 PM

I currently cannot log into Destiny 2 despite several attempts. It seems, however, that many players are having the same problem. On X, Bungie has not yet communicated any updates on their status account – we are staying on it!

7:25 PM

Now I have been kicked from the servers for the first time. A quick look at the Steam charts shows that Bungie managed to bring back many players. Over 81,000 Guardians are currently venturing onto the servers of the loot shooter:

Destiny2-Spielerzahlen.jpg

7:05 PM

It’s 7:05 PM and Bungie has let me in, I’m now in and can select my Guardian.

6:51 PM

Of course, I disabled my music in the menu before the downtime. Now I can’t hear what soundtrack Bungie has put into the new start screen. Too bad, but at least we can try logging in. However, as communicated, I still get a screen with the message “Server offline.” Only at 7 PM can we officially venture onto the servers.

6:17 PM

The download has already started on Steam. For me, the update is even smaller than indicated. Overall, I have to download 24.2 GB.

5:56 PM

So and what would such a farewell be without touching words from an old veteran? I took the time to write down what I believe will be my last opinion on Destiny 2 and it cost me a bit of strength… it was a nice little journey into the past.

Incredible how fast the time has passed. If you would like to read it, feel free to check it out here. I would also love to read about your experiences in the comments!
