The Call of Duty of 2022 is called Modern Warfare 2 and the release is planned for October 28. In the meantime, there is some information about the new shooter and MeinMMO shows in a quick overview what is officially known and what major leaks there are already.
A new year, a new Call of Duty. This has been the case for over 15 years now. 2022 brings Modern Warfare 2, the sequel to the most successful paid CoD title so far: CoD MW 2019. That, in turn, was a reboot of the popular “Modern Warfare” setting from CoD 2007.
Not all details about Modern Warfare 2 have been clarified yet, not even all major game modes have been properly introduced. However, what is already officially known and why leaks suggest that the annual CoD tradition is coming to an end, we will show you on MeinMMO.

CoD Modern Warfare 2: Official Information
CoD MW2 provides you with a direct continuation of CoD MW 2019. The story is continued and familiar characters from the “Modern Warfare” universe reappear.
Through the Battle Royale, Call of Duty: Warzone, the stories of the two major CoD universes – Cold War and Modern Warfare – have even been connected. Even zombies are now somehow part of it, and could theoretically also appear in the campaign of CoD MW2… theoretically.
We will list the most important announcements so far:
- CoD 2022 will be Modern Warfare 2 and will be released on October 28
- You can already pre-order CoD MW2
- Activision studio Infinity Ward is leading the development
- Modern Warfare 2 is still coming for the “old” consoles PS4 and Xbox One
- The latest Call of Duty will be released on Steam again
- A story campaign and a multiplayer mode are confirmed
- The campaign is a continuation of the story of CoD MW2, but 3 years later
- Beta test phase for multiplayer begins in mid-September
- Before that, a showcase for the multiplayer mode will take place on September 15
- PlayStation players can play the beta again earlier
- Two major new modes for multiplayer – Knockout and Prisoner Rescue
- Revision of vehicle mechanics
- Improved AI is supposed to appear more realistic
- Full integration of water – swimming, diving, battles underwater
- New and larger gunsmith
- Movement options will be expanded – Dolphin Dive returns

- Warzone 2 will be released in 2022 as a kind of expansion to CoD MW2
Aside from that, there are already some trailers that convey gameplay impressions of the game or the branding:

CoD Modern Warfare 2: The Most Important Leaks
Apart from the official information, there are already plenty of leaks about CoD MW2. However, keep in mind that the following information is not officially confirmed. Things may change during development or the leaks are simply wrong.
Here, too, we will list the most important leaks:
- The coop mode is probably called DMZ and is supposed to be based on the gameplay of “Escape from Tarkov”
- US athletes were allowed to test MW2 and showed DMZ and the lobby screen
- MW2 could be the largest CoD to date and there will probably not be a new premium title in 2023
- There are said to be many remakes of old MW maps
- Many of the game modes, perks, and killstreaks have likely already been leaked as well
- Matchmaking (SBMM) is likely to be adjusted – strong players are supposed to benefit from this and sometimes end up in weaker lobbies
- Pro perks will probably return – improved versions of the regular perks
