Blizzard had to fix several issues in Season 14 of Diablo 4. A small but crucial adjustment was initially omitted from the German patch notes – and now the community is happy about the return of a “bubble”.
Update: The change is now also included in the German patch notes. We have adjusted the text and title.
Which change brings joy?
- With patch 3.1.2 on July 28, 2026, Blizzard fixed a critical bug that affected class balance.
- The description of a recipe in the Horadric Cube was adjusted so that players no longer have to sacrifice their valuable items.
- Besides that, the patch brought back the “immunity bubble” into the dungeon.
On Reddit, the update quickly became a big topic. Many players praise the change, but they also mock that Blizzard is merely reintroducing a feature they had removed earlier.
The relief over the return outweighs the criticisms. Without the bubble, remaining enemies or annoying on-death effects, particularly affecting one type of build, regularly cause frustration at the end of a dungeon run by preventing or disturbing the upgrading of the gems in the sockets.
How absurd this looks in gameplay is shown in a YouTube clip by the Diablo expert wudijo. There, an unstoppable enemy simply prevents him from upgrading his gems.
Immunity bubble was not designed as an endgame feature
Why was the bubble removed? Although it wasn’t officially explained why Blizzard removed the bubble, the English patch notes provide hints. The invulnerability was apparently exploited to defeat bosses without any risk.
According to Reddit user DarkeSword, it was possible to kill the boss Varshan protected out of the bubble at the end of the dungeon with the War Plans build once he spawned after the run.
This is what the patch notes say: In the German patch notes for patch 3.1.2 from July 28, 2026, it now states:
The invulnerability bubble at the end of a dungeon run has been adjusted and now includes bosses from whisper encounters. Additionally, the following things have been added back to the game:
Source: Blizzard
- The bubble appears immediately after completing a dungeon run when no whisper encounter is triggered.
- If a whisper encounter occurs, the bubble is suppressed until the boss of the whisper encounter is defeated.
This means concretely: If you have the point “Malicious Invasion” active in the War Plans skill tree at the Whispering Tree, Varshan can spawn after the completion of a whisper. This also occurs in the dungeon when it is marked as a whisper. If Varshan or other enemies appear there, no immunity bubble will spawn until you have defeated the attackers.
Have the remaining enemies and effects in the dungeon also driven you crazy? Are you just as happy that the bubble is finally back? Feel free to share your experiences in the comments!
Blizzard is quite busy in Season 14, as numerous changes have faced criticism from fans – such as the annoying equipment limit for certain items. After critical feedback from the community, the developers have removed it: An annoying limit annoys players in Diablo 4 Season 14, Blizzard responds by patching it out entirely
