You can finally almost play Pokémon in FF14, we show you how to level up effectively

The Beastmasters are off in Final Fantasy XIV! We are jumping in with you and showing you tips on how to level up quickly.

What are the Beastmasters? Beastmaster is a limited job that was introduced with Patch 7.65. You cannot play it in normal groups through the content search in classic content, but it brings its own mechanics and content.

With it, you can fill your Bestiary (similar to a Pokédex) by taming beasts and adding them to your team. This allows you to “equip” up to 3 creatures and summon one into battle.

Currently, you can take it up to level 50 and play it in the open world and dedicated content. The community and we, as part of it, are of course already excited to dive into the grind, and have prepared some tips for you in advance, as well as during our initial tests, so you can get started right away.

If you want a structured overview of how to unlock the Beastmaster and level efficiently, check page 2 or click through the table of contents to the desired section:

Preparation and the right content are everything

How to level the Beastmaster as quickly as possible? The most effective leveling method starts with preparation. Some items give you valuable bonuses to the experience you receive:

  • Novice Ring
    • +30 % EXP up to level 30
    • Received through the Novice Arena
  • Neophyte Ring
    • +30 % EXP up to level 60
    • Received through completing the entire Novice Arena
  • Menphina Earring (or another earring from a pre-order, such as Azeyma)
    • +30 % EXP up to level 80
  • Friendship Ring / Helm of Light
    • +30 % EXP up to level 25
    • Received by referring a friend or the ARR Collector’s Edition
  • Buff Food
    • Any kind, to be honest
    • Gives a flat +3 % EXP
  • Combat Guide
    • +15 % EXP
    • Available from your company’s squads
  • Optional: Buffs from your Free Company
    • +5 %, +10 % or +15 % depending on the buff level

The items stack their effects, allowing you to significantly shorten your leveling process.

And then? After you have unlocked the job in Gridania (you can find the NPC here: New Gridania | X:11.8 Y:13.6) and forged your first bond, you can get started. For the first levels, it’s perfectly sufficient to just fight and befriend beasts.

Tip: You can also use the analysis skill from your mount to see if you can tame a creature. However, your mount’s feet must be on the ground for this.

Unlike the Blue Mage, the Beastmaster does not receive enhanced experience from battles in the open world. Instead, you need to complete FATEs for an additionally increased experience rate – it doesn’t matter where you go for this, as long as it suits your current level.

Additionally, dungeons can be worthwhile at your respective level, as you can also encounter monsters that you can tame there. However, they often take longer than is truly beneficial for the leveling phase. So if your goal is merely to reach level 50, the methods above are definitely more worthwhile.

Through the “Beast Board,” you can additionally test your builds and gain useful items. However, you won’t get increased experience here.
