Who doesn’t think about the good old times of MMORPGs? The developers of Aion definitely do and wanted to bring back those moments for their players with a remake, but the result is really cheeky.
What kind of remake is this? The developers of Aion have announced an “Aion Remake.” Initially, this will only launch in South Korea and aims to bring players back to the good old times.
However, the developers haven’t really come up with much. The remake is not Aion with old mechanics and bosses, but rather enhanced technology. Instead, this is just a remake server with some adjustments that barely deserve the name “Remake.”
Here you can see a trailer for Aion Classic:
A remake that does not live up to its name
What are the developers planning? The remake is supposed to provide a major overhaul of the classes. All 13 classes in the game will receive a new balance, new abilities, and a changed gameplay.
With stronger base abilities and a redesign of the “Stigma System,” the way a character plays is also supposed to change. That’s about it for the positive changes, but there is one big thing still.
What is it? The developers have incorporated an auto-hunting mode for the Aion Remake. This allows for automatic combat. Also, matchmaking and PvE modes have been adapted for auto gameplay, as mmorpg.org.pl writes.
So, anyone who wants to experience Aion like in the old days can basically watch their character have this experience completely without the player’s involvement. This feels like the opposite of a remake, as the purpose of such should actually serve nostalgia.
Yet, the Aion Remake clearly shows that the developers are trying out new things that have little to do with the familiar. The name “Remake” seems to be rather inappropriately chosen and one should understand the new version more as “Aion Fresh,” which is suitable only for fans of auto-play.
Will this come to us as well? While the Aion “Remake” has only been announced for South Korea so far, the developers have already brought various other versions from there to us, such as Aion Classic.
It’s conceivable that we will also soon be allowed to watch our character play on the remake server, even though, so far, all information is missing.
Many players probably associate the word remake with a large ambitious project by developers, to revive an old title. Whether this is achieved with the Aion server remains to be seen in-game. What do you think about the idea? Feel free to let us know in the comments. Auto-play is also present in Aion 2, even if not by the developers themselves: Aion 2 must completely change its currency because farmbots have worked too hard
