Even before the release on Japanese television, an Anime with particularly short mini-episodes started. The ratings of the individual episodes show that the series should not be underestimated.
What kind of anime is this? In “Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You,” we follow the completely overworked employee Sasaki. His stressful office life is only made bearable by one thing: the friendly cashier Yamada, who works in his favorite supermarket.
After a long shift at the office, Sasaki goes back to his favorite supermarket, but the cashier Yamada has already finished her shift. Disappointed, he goes to the smoking area and meets a young woman who is extremely stylishly dressed. She calls herself Tayama and shows Sasaki the secret employee smoking area.
What Sasaki doesn’t realize, as he is extremely slow on the uptake: Tayama is actually Yamada. After her shift as a cashier, she takes off her work clothes and slips into her casual everyday look. Through their uncomplicated conversations, the two get to know each other beyond the stressful daily life, leading to a very special relationship between them.
The anime deserves much more attention
How good is the anime? The anime is rated above average on several rating platforms. On IMDb, it reaches a rating of 8.7 out of 10 with over 140 votes. Also on MyAnimeList, the series scores 8.58 out of 10 with over 7,600 ratings (as of June 10 at 8:40 AM).
This shows that while the anime is good, it flies under the radar for many fans as very few votes have come in.
Where can I watch it? If you want to convince yourself of the series, you can already watch the first episodes on Crunchyroll before they air on Japanese television. The first six episodes were aired as 12 mini-episodes, each with an average runtime of ten minutes.
After the official release, these mini-episodes are to be compiled again into regular TV episodes. In total, there are supposed to be 12 episodes with a length of about 20 minutes.
