LoL: Teamfight Tactics and Dota Underlords
What kind of games are these? Teamfight Tactics (in English: Tactical Teamfight) and Dota Underlords are the autobattlers from the gaming giants Riot and Valve. The gameplay is based on the Dota2 mod “Auto Chess“.
In the autobattlers, you set up a small army of heroes, enhance them, and let them fight against other players and NPC opponents in automatic battles to earn gold and items.
These are the highlights of LoL: Teamfight Tactics
Teamfight Tactics features some unique mechanics that set it apart from other autobattlers. This includes a champion carousel, where players can select a champion at the start of the match and in between, and the “spatula“, which has special effects on various heroes.
Otherwise, Teamfight Tactics primarily relies on utilizing the well-known and popular champions from LoL. Since it is integrated as a game mode in the LoL client, the entry is a little easier for every LoL player.

These are the highlights of Dota Underlords
Dota Underlords, on the other hand, is more oriented toward the “original” Auto Chess. Over several rounds, you purchase heroes with the gold you’ve earned, equip them, and upgrade them while trying to be the last one standing.
In the future, however, special features like a battle pass, leaderboards, and the “Underlords” themselves will be added, which should fit your play style. These features are still in development.
Dota Underlords is available as a standalone game on Steam, currently in free open beta. If you want to play, you don’t need Dota and can simply download the game.

Why should you play autobattlers?
Currently, there is a huge hype around Dota Underlords, Teamfight Tactics, and Auto Chess. The games attract so many players that the servers of the games often cannot handle it. The biggest advantages of these games are likely:
- an easy, understandable entry
- a nice learning curve with a high skill ceiling for longer challenges
- short rounds that work well casually
- a huge community for playing
As things currently stand, autobattlers will be the “big hit” for the foreseeable future. If you want to get in, you have the perfect opportunity to start early and become a veteran.
