In Anime doesn’t always have to be peaceful – especially not at the end. Often, evil wins, as seen in these 5 series.
A good story always needs a happy ending – not at all! Many anime prove that a gripping story doesn’t always have to end with the hero’s victory or the triumph of the (objectively or subjectively) good. Many anime stories have a dark plot, and the finale makes it clear that evil can gladly take the upper hand.
Therefore, today we take a look at 5 anime series where the ending is characterized by the evil side winning, or at least bringing about such a devastating state that the “good” ones have definitely lost.
Spoiler alert: Naturally, there will be massive spoilers regarding the series mentioned here, but that should be self-evident. So here’s the last chance to bail and instead focus on the 15 new Isekai, such as Re:Zero:

In the small town of Sotoba, literally nothing happens. Mostly old people live here and enjoy the quiet, sleepy country life. The few teenagers and young people that exist are bored to death. The same goes for the young Megumi, who doesn’t fit into the town anyway with her goth-lolita look.
But she sees her big chance when a European family moves into the big, old mansion at the edge of town. She is invited there – and shortly thereafter becomes the first of several tragic deaths in the village. Deaths that quickly call the doctor Toshio Ozaki to the scene, who soon suspects something more problematic than an illness: vampires.

How does evil win in Shiki? The vampires manage to establish themselves in the village and continue to spread. What begins as a series of small deaths quickly develops into a pandemic, where so many of the villagers have become vampires that they essentially have the upper hand. Even if it ultimately succeeds in taking out a large number of the vampires, the village of Sotoba and most of its inhabitants are annihilated. Hardly any of the protagonists survive, many have become vampires.
