Demons can only exist when they find a host body. This is exactly what they attempt at an orgiastic party full of excess, which Akira Fudou attends with his friend Ryo Asuka. Just as Ryo hoped, Akira is possessed by a demon, the mighty Amon. However, Akira manages to rein in Amon, making him a “Devilman” – a human who can harness the demon’s power for themselves.
But this power demands a toll, and the demon increasingly gnaws at Akira’s psyche. It only worsens when more demons gradually find their way into the human world, and Akira does everything he can to stop them in time. How does evil win in Devilman Crybaby? The story of Devilman Crybaby finds a grim conclusion as humanity begins to kill one another. Although they should stand united to stop the demons, they suspect each other and even kill innocents – paranoia, hysteria, and hatred run rampant.
In the final battle, the “hero” Akira is also killed by his former companion Ryo, who turns out to be the fallen angel Satan. The entire world is deemed destroyed, and God himself must intervene to cleanse the world with his fire and then restore it to its original state.
Ryo has fulfilled his goal to mock God and to destroy His creation, even if he suffers the ultimate punishment: He is eternally condemned to relive the rise of humanity and his feelings for Akira again, only to lose him one more time.
