10 Types of Players in Final Fantasy XIV You’d Rather Not Belong To

We all know them: those players who make Final Fantasy XIV unnecessarily harder than it needs to be. And yet, somehow, there’s a bit of them in all of us. So here are 10 player types that we all know.

What kind of list is this? Those who have been playing the MMORPG for a while inevitably encounter players who stand out – whether intentionally or unintentionally. They often make life difficult for their teammates or provide the best laughter and inside jokes for the more patient players.

Some of them simply don’t know any better and can’t help it, while others could definitely play differently if they wanted to.

Either way, they somehow belong to the MMORPG, and even if we don’t want to admit it, we are often one of them. So here comes our list of 10 player types that every resident of Eorzea has certainly met at least once and hopes to not belong to.

A crucial note beforehand: This is obviously meant to be read with a very large wink and should in no way demean players who just don’t know better, are very new, or simply lack experience. You are not meant!

If you find yourself as a newbie here: Don’t lose heart! FF14 is a massive MMO and it takes time to find your way around. No master has fallen from the heavens, and most of the community is really helpful. Feel free to ask here in the comments if you are stuck or don’t understand something.

Who writes here? MeinMMO editor Alexander Mehrwald has been wandering Eorzea primarily as a Dark Knight since the beginning of the Heavensward expansion in 2015 and does not shy away from tough content. With Dawntrail he then switched to the White Mage in his raid group and enjoys participating in tough trials and raids. But his house in the lavender fields and his island always look forward to his visits.

The AoE Moth

Colorful flashing lights are something we all love, right? We all know the saying: Like a moth to the flame. In Final Fantasy XIV, however, this light usually glows bright orange, blinks threateningly on the floor or as a marker above players’ heads, signaling massive area damage.

But for the AoE Moth, there seems to be nothing more captivating than positioning oneself right in the middle of these glowing death circles or running into crowded groups with the in-house AoE marker.

While the rest of the group hastily flees to safe zones, this player type stands frozen – completely hypnotized by the colorful danger or simply driven by sheer greed to deliver that one crucial attack on the boss as a stubborn melee fighter or Black Mage in their ley lines.

When the enemy then mercilessly strikes and the health bar of the Moth vanishes into thin air, they usually just cast a pleading glance towards the healers.

The Job Crystal Hater

Who hasn’t had that moment where you found yourself in a high-level dungeon and thought: “What the heck is a Hermetic doing here?”. For everyone who wasn’t aware: From level 30 onwards you can equip pretty colored crystals.

Your class no longer remains Hermetic, but becomes a much cooler Summoner or Scholar. Or you’re no longer a Pikenier, but a Dragoon. So a real dragon rider.

So it’s worth putting the job crystal in its designated slot. Whether White Mage sounds cooler than Druid is certainly debatable. Nevertheless, it’s worth equipping the crystals.

This also has the advantage that you will then have more and better abilities. Because it’s not normal to be so weak at level 50. Of course, there are those players who purposely want to be edgy because who needs such colorful crystals anyway? You can get by without them.
