Tywin is a rather special case on this list. The head of the Lannisters is the absolute prime example of political power and strategic skill. At the same time, Tywin operates quite openly with his power. He perfectly exploits his family’s money, status, and power without needing to hide in the shadows. So, he is not a classic intriguer, but he still had his sneaky moments.
The most prominent example is, of course, the Red Wedding. He was the mastermind behind the conspiracy that nearly wiped out the entire Stark family. While he wasn’t present at the massacre himself, he didn’t have to be. He could simply use the Freys and Boltons to do the dirty work for him.
Such power plays are his specialty. He can officially maintain a façade. Still, everyone knows that he is behind everything. This earns him considerable respect among friends and allies alike.
