Rank 10: Widow’s Wail
- Holder: Joffrey Lannister, Jaime Lannister
After the execution of Ned Stark, Tywin had the old great sword of the Starks melted down. From the Valyrian steel, he had two smaller swords forged. One of them was Widow’s Wail.
As a wedding gift, Tywin gave the sword to his grandson, King Joffrey. Of course, he was also responsible for the cruel name. Joffrey did not achieve any great deeds with the blade. He sliced a book and his wedding cake, including some doves.
Later, the sword passed into Jaime’s possession, who could do much more with it. He mainly used it in the final “Battle of Winterfell,” where he made many undead aware of the effects of Valyrian steel. Furthermore, Widow’s Wail was the sword with which he knighted Brienne. Despite its nasty name, the sword also had some good moments.
