Legend has it that a legendary hero named Azor Ahai lived 8,000 years before Aegon’s conquest. It was his destiny to free the world from the horrors of the Long Night and defeat the White Walkers. For this, he forged a weapon like no other. For 100 days and 100 nights, he worked on it before he killed his own wife with the blade. As a result, her soul was said to have passed into the sword, granting it its supernatural power.
According to a prophecy, Azor Ahai is to be reborn to defeat the White Walkers once and for all with Lightbringer. As Melisandre believed that Stannis was this chosen one, she had him pull the sword from a burning statue. The sword glowed magically but never got as hot as it should have. Therefore, it is suspected that the sword Stannis wielded might not have been the true Lightbringer.
Either way, the history of the sword is absolutely legendary and therefore ranks second on this list.
