A Russian guild was hit in the middle of a raid. Their accounts for World of Warcraft were banned live on stream.
When it comes to real money trading in World of Warcraft, Blizzard takes no jokes. Even though there are frequent complaints about too many bots, gold farmers, and questionable activities, regular ban waves take place where the respective offenders have to endure significant account penalties.
While first-time offenders are often given a short penalty, repeat offenders usually receive a longer ban.
Banned right in the middle of a raid for 6 months
What happened? Just before the release of Patch 12.1 Curse of Ula’tek, Blizzard decided to take action against cheaters again to significantly ruin their start to the new season and new content. Yesterday, a larger ban wave went out that affected several guilds, especially those involved in real money trading.
One guild was even banned right in the middle of a raid:
Since hardly anyone in voice seems surprised about the ban, it seems likely that the affected players knew exactly that this would catch up with them sooner or later.
Why were they all banned at the same time? This is because Blizzard usually conducts such bans in waves. They first gather many violations, evaluate them, and then sanction all affected accounts almost simultaneously. Blizzard does this so that the sellers of gold (for real money) cannot figure out exactly which offense brought the developers’ attention to them.
What do you think about that? Good that they took a hard stance? Or is the judgment still far too lenient?
Is boosting allowed? Generally, boosting is not prohibited. Anyone can have other players pull them through tough content and pay for it – but only with in-game gold. Those who pay with gold coins can generally be pulled through all content. However, this changes as soon as real money is involved in any way. This is prohibited and results in account penalties upon discovery.
Our patch 12.1 is now live as well and has brought some major changes. Especially, how you get loot will likely change significantly. Because if everything remains as planned, then the consolation prize will probably be the best choice you can make.
