The freshly released cover of GTA 6 sweetens the waiting time for the community until the release of the game, or at least until a new trailer. But now this very cover has spoiled the anticipation for some players. If only they had just gone one step further.
What kind of mistake is that? On the cover of GTA 6, various characters can be seen. Besides the protagonist couple and some other faces, there is also an alligator with its mouth open under the logo, which deserves a place fitting to the Grassrivers from GTA 6. But the very thing is causing confusion and even anger among players.
The Reddit user ITehJelleh counted the alligator’s teeth and came up with only 60. “Normally, alligators have 74 to 80 teeth, so that is far below the normal amount,” the user writes, “Was that a mistake or could it possibly have a meaning?”
What’s behind the “toothless” alligator?
Is that really a mistake? To answer this question, one would first need to know if the animal is really an alligator. Because they are not the only large reptiles that live in the water.
The user counted correctly; it is 60 teeth, and these 60 teeth perfectly match the American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus). And South Florida is indeed the only place where the American crocodile and the American alligator live side by side (Source: USGS – U.S. Geological Survey).
Therefore, it may be that the alligator on the cover art is not an alligator but a crocodile. While alligators typically have a U-shaped snout, crocodiles have a more pointed V-shape. However, since the reptile on the cover is depicted quite sideways and head-on, this shape cannot be fully recognized by the untrained eye. The number of teeth, however, could indicate that it is the Crocodylus acutus.
Would the potential mistake really be that bad? While most of the comments under the Reddit post complain about the potentially sloppy work of the artist, it is already clear at first glance that it is sarcasm.
The top comment under the Reddit post with over 4,400 upvotes reads: “Unplayable. This will be just like the release of Cyberpunk.”
Also, AlphabetaVV writes: “If this is really true, I am so disappointed with Rockstar.”
And those who still haven’t grasped the community’s reaction will be picked up by CaptainPatz: “Another mistake that I noticed: Whenever Lucia or Jason die, they come back. Realistically, the game should end at this point and not be playable anymore, right?”
Whether an alligator with dental issues or a healthy crocodile with a slightly thicker snout – players continue to bask in the glow of the cover they are currently enjoying.
