After almost 2 years of hiatus, the manga returns to Hunter x Hunter in July 2026. Fans of the series are so eagerly waiting for new releases that every update from the artist sends them into excitement.
Which manga is it about? It is of course about Hunter x Hunter. For many fans, the story of Gon Freecs is one of the best manga in the world. On MyAnimeList, the manga holds a respectable 33rd place, and the anime from 2011 even ranks 9th among the best anime of all time.
However, the creation of the series is overshadowed by the health problems of the manga-ka Yoshihiro Togashi. He repeatedly has to take breaks, with months or even years between releases since 2005.
As the Shueisha publisher confirmed, on July 3, 2026, it will finally continue with Volume 39. It will collect Chapters 401 to 410. But that’s not all: A continuation of the manga also seems to be secured – for the time being.
Fans cling to every update
What did the artist say? On X, Yoshihiro Togashi provides sporadic updates on the progress of his work. For the starving fans, even the smallest news stirs up great excitement. The post from April 8 about the completion of the inking of Chapter 430 was seen 10 million times on X, and moved fans with an illustration and the words “I get heaps of motivation from my wife.” Togashi is married to Naoko Takeuchi, the creator of Sailor Moon.
On May 26, the next update followed: The manuscript for Chapter 421 is now also finished. Additionally, the dental provisional has broken – however, this part of the post likely did not account for the nearly 7 million views and 200,000 likes.
These posts indicate that another 20 chapters are practically ready for release and that at least the basic outlines of the plot are already set. When exactly the new chapters will be released will still be announced by the editorial team of the Jump magazine.
Why is the manga so eagerly awaited? That many fans have not given up after all these years and continue to look forward to new releases already speaks to the quality of the manga. Yoshihiro Togashi has created an extremely cool and unique magic system with Nen.
Additionally, the manga impresses with complex characters and a storyline that turns well-known shonen conventions on their heads. For instance, when the big tournament arc does not end with a last-minute victory for the protagonist.
