After the surprising launch of the Early Access of Camelot Unchained in March 2026, the developers have now released new gameplay. Many genre fans are once again shocked by the state of the MMORPG.
What is happening with Camelot Unchained? The spiritual successor to the MMORPG classic Dark Age of Camelot surprisingly launched into Early Access on March 27, 2026. But not on Steam (although there is now a Steam product page), and only for players who have financially supported the project sufficiently. Furthermore, the EA servers are supposed to be live every weekend, from Friday to Monday.
At the start of the current weekend, the developers also uploaded a new video on their YouTube channel, introducing the archetype Devout. This blessed frontline fighter plunges into battle with a hefty two-handed weapon and strengthens his allies with powerful, faith-based abilities. Take a look:
“Even the WoW trailer from 2003 is better than this”
How is the community reacting to the new gameplay? The developers know very well why they disable comments under their videos. On Reddit, the community is once again not particularly understanding regarding the new MMORPG from genre veteran Mark Jacobs (Dark Age of Camelot, Warhammer Online).
After all, the Kickstarter campaign, where Jacobs and Co. managed to raise over $2.2 million, was 13 years ago.
- iomatrixx cannot believe it: “What the hell … wasn’t the game in development for about 10 years???”
- Albane01 jokes: “I told a friend who invested $100 in this game about 13 years ago that he could have just bought Bitcoins instead, and when he calculated it, he was totally crushed.”
- Successful-Berry-315 wonders: “How can they even release such a video without being ashamed?”
- Walkingdrops writes: “This somehow reminds me of MMO trailers from the early 2000s, but honestly, even the WoW trailer from 2003 was better than this.”
Camelot Unchained has gone through a difficult development with financial problems and layoffs. In the meantime, there were even allegations of scams because of this. Hardly anyone believed that Camelot Unchained would ever be completed. The fact that the team and the MMORPG project still exist is probably a small miracle. Many other crowdfunding-funded games have not made it: 26 Kickstarter MMOs that wanted money from you – a frustrating balance after 14 years
