A movie on Netflix is more successful than all others: KPop Demon Hunters. The film offers some good songs that fans can listen to repeatedly even after the credits roll. Unfortunately, one song didn’t make it into the final film, which makes one singer particularly sad.
What kind of movie is it? KPop Demon Hunters was released on June 20, 2025, on Netflix and has since achieved incredible success. The animated film tells the story of a K-Pop girl group that battles demons. In a short time, it has become the most successful film on the platform and left other major blockbusters like Red Notice and Carry-On behind.
Currently, the film stands at Netflix with a whopping 325 million views, measured in the first 91 days after release. For comparison: Red Notice in second place achieved “only” 230 million views in the same period.
The success of KPop Demon Hunters is therefore enormous. One reason is certainly the songs, which are bound to create some earworms. The soundtrack was also successful independently of the actual film and reached number one on the German album charts with a single (via wikipedia.org).
For a film soundtrack, that is more than remarkable, especially considering that the very popular K-Pop group BTS only reached a maximum of sixth place in the same charts. Similar successes were also achieved in the US market.
As one singer from the film recently announced, however, not all songs made it into the final cut. Among them is one that is said to be particularly emotional.
One song fell victim to the cutting room floor
Which song is it? The songwriter and singer Ejae provided the singing voice for the character Rumi in KPop Demon Hunters. She wrote several songs for the film herself. In an interview with Collider, she talked about a song that was very important to her but unfortunately was cut from the film.
It was about her character Rumi. The song would have been very personal and tells of her breakdown:
It was a powerful, ballad-like song; dark, yet powerful, with a hint of sadness. It was powerful, and that was something I like to sing. But who knows, maybe in the next (film, note from the editor)?

That some elements like scenes or songs get cut from a film to streamline content or simply to fit the time is normal. It is still a shame for the fans of the character and the singer.
However, according to Hollywood Reporter, there are already talks between Netflix and Sony about a sequel, which is no surprise considering the film’s tremendous success. Perhaps the aforementioned song, as the singer has already hinted, will find its way into a potential second part.
