Fans of Warhammer 40,000 are served a new role-playing game where you take on the role of a member of the Inquisition. In search of heretics and the truth, however, you are more like an action hero.
Which game is being talked about? It is about Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, a new RPG from developer Owlcat Games. The studio has already developed role-playing games like the Pathfinder series and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.
- For MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus, Rogue Trader is one of the best games in recent years: The role-playing game of Warhammer 40,000 on Steam has kept him engaged for 285 hours, and with a new DLC, it’ll probably be another 100 more.
With the successor, Owlcat Games wants to address the biggest criticisms of Rogue Trader: the battles and the class system. Additionally, Dark Heresy should give you much more freedom – even if you want to kiss a cyborg.

Hardcore detective work and difficult decisions
What is the game about? In Dark Heresy, you no longer play as your rogue trader from Rogue Trader. Instead, you serve the Imperium of Man in other ways. As an acolyte of the Inquisition, you may not be a bred superhuman like the Space Marines in Dark Heresy – but you are at least as dangerous.
As part of the Inquisition, it is your job to uncover heresy. In Dark Heresy, you will therefore also be busy investigating crime scenes for clues and solving cases. Your approach, however, resembles more of “Arnold Schwarzenegger than Sherlock Holmes,” said Anatoly Shestov, executive producer of the game, in a conversation with PCGamesN.
In keeping with the dark universe of Warhammer 40,000, the developers also do not want to present you with decisions that are simply “Good” or “Evil.” Instead, you should decide what is a good or a bad decision in each situation.
Maybe killing these innocent people is good at this particular moment, maybe punishing this bad person is evil, because further down the line this evil guy will save millions that the innocents will corrupt.

When will the game come out? Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy currently has no release date yet. The RPG will be released for PC (Steam, Epic Games, and GOG) as well as for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus, of course, couldn’t resist visiting the new RPG at gamescom as a Warhammer fan. There, he had a few words with the lead developer: A short conversation with the head of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy escalated, but now I know how the classes work exactly
