In the new DLC of Total War: Warhammer 3, there is a powerful leader with an absurd plan: a rat that wants to shoot the moon.
Which game is it about? Total War: Warhammer 3 is a real-time strategy game developed by Creative Assembly. The main game was released in 2022 and concludes the trilogy. It is considered by fans to be one of the best games related to Warhammer and a great strategy game, although it has been criticized for its DLC policy.
Since its release in 2022, the title has received numerous expansions. You will need to invest over 200 € if you want to own every DLC. And even in 2026, the developers will continue to provide the game with new content. The new expansion “Lords of the End Times” will be released on September 24, 2026.
At the core of the DLC is the downfall of the Old World (The End Times), including four new playable commanders as powerful faction leaders.

A crazy rat wishing to sniff the moon
What is the deal with the moon? Thanquol is a high-ranking wizard and priest of the Horned Rat, the god of the Skaven. He is regarded as one of the smartest and simultaneously most unintentionally humorous antagonists in the Warhammer universe. His plans regularly fail.
In the new trailer for “Lords of the End Times,” he once again shows his best side: He eats a magical warpstone, becomes megalomaniac, and calls himself the most powerful Grey Prophet. After that … he wants to blow up the moon “Morrslieb” so that it rains warpstone.
Thanquol and his people, the Skaven, believe that Morrslieb is made entirely of warpstone. The stone itself is extremely important to the Skaven and is considered sacred. They use it as a resource for technology and magic and even consume it to increase their magical powers – especially ground into powder. Particularly Thanquol is a regular consumer, but because consumption has side effects like madness, he is regarded not only as powerful but also unpredictable and hallucinatory.
Under the trailer on YouTube, various comments refer to the warpstone consumption of the rat lord and speculate that he wants to shoot the moon so that it shatters and he can consume the falling warpstone shards. One user writes: “A rat on its mission to sniff the entire moon.”
Alongside the DLC “Lords of the End Times,” there will be an update that benefits the vampires and their lovers. The whole faction receives a massive rework as well as its own climate, the undead wasteland. Additionally, the vampire queen Neferata will be added, who will be free to play.
