World of Warcraft Dragonflight is not yet released, but collectors are already unhappy. Blizzard has to take back a mount on the very first evening of the alpha.

World of Warcraft has not only held up over the years because of its gameplay, but also because of the many other things you can do in Azeroth. Especially collecting various items is part of it – right at the forefront are mounts. The major milestones, such as 100, 200, or 300 different mounts, are further rewarded with additional bonuses. This should also happen in Dragonflight – but fans immediately take to the barricades. Because they feel deceived.

What happened? The alpha of Dragonflight is live, and many are already roaming the Dragon Isles. Thus, the massive data mining has begun, and many new contents are already viewable. There is a new achievement awarded to characters who possess at least 500 different mounts.

As a reward for that, you get the 501st mount on top – a large yeti with a saddle.

That was at least Blizzard’s original plan.

Why are fans angry? The yeti mount triggered numerous negative comments. Whether in the official forums or on fan pages, almost everywhere there was criticism that the yeti should be the reward for 500 collected mounts.

There are already several yeti mounts in the game, and it would have essentially been just a “recolor” – that is, a reskinning of an already existing mount.

In the eyes of many fans, this is absolutely unworthy of the achievement of having collected more than 500 mounts. Accordingly, the comments are quite negative, such as:

• “Boring, ugly mount. One could hardly make a more boring decision for the achievement.”
• “Yes, this is disappointing. At least it’s … something. But in an expansion that revolves around dragons, getting a ground mount from Warlords of Draenor feels bad. Like, really bad.”
• “Gah. I mean … thanks for the achievement when I log in, but … the yeti is one of the least popular mounts ever.”

The timing is also quite unfortunate, as World of Warcraft has just offered a new mount in the shop, which is also available for completing a 6-month subscription.

Blizzard promises immediate change: On the same evening, Blizzard spoke out in the form of developer “Chimes” in the official WoW forum. He said:

Yes, we agree. The yeti will be replaced with another mount in a future build (not a yeti), but that may take some time. Feedback like this is always helpful, and please remember that things you see in the alpha can still change.

This calms the fans for the time being. That it was a “placeholder” yeti is, by the way, unlikely. Because the achievement was named “Thanks for the Carry!” and the mount was the “Carrier Yeti” – Blizzard had already thought about it matching well.

Which mount will replace the yeti is still unclear. Let’s hope it will be something more exciting that fans will be satisfied with.

With Dragonflight, World of Warcraft receives its 9th expansion and once again 10 levels that you need to climb to the new endgame. MeinMMO reveals how long you will approximately need for this.

This is how long it takes to reach level 70: MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus was able to test the currently running Dragonflight alpha together with Marylin Marx from GameStar beforehand. However, we only had one area available and we played from level 65-68.

For the 3 levels, we needed roughly 5 hours. From playing, we can therefore deduce that the path to level 70 will take about 15-20 hours. However, this depends on several factors, such as:

• Are you playing in a group? We were always just two.
• Are you reading the quest texts thoroughly? We skipped most of them.
• Which class are you playing? With 2 DPS classes, it goes quite quickly.
• How many other players are around and fighting with you for quest mobs? It was empty for us.
• Are you completing dungeons along the way? No instances were available for us during the test.
• How good are you at dragon riding, the new feature of Dragonflight? Skilled riders reach distant places faster.

If you are particularly fast, you might even finish in 10 hours. If you prefer to take your time or master the dungeons along the way, it can take considerably longer. You can find Mary’s assessment of Dragonflight on GameStar.

How much story is in Dragonflight? The pure campaign quests made up about a quarter to a third of the tasks in our test. We had already completed the story in the Azure Mountains before reaching level 68 and still had 4 quest hubs open.

How much is in the new addon? After reaching level 70, a plethora of further activities will be available to you – “endless amounts,” as Product Director Pat Dawson mentioned in the interview. We have identified 8 dungeons so far and one raid, although we have not tested any of them yet.

In addition to dragon riding as a new feature, the Dracthyr Evokers come into play as a new class. MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus has played the Evoker for 7 hours and is excited about the new class.

However, Dragonflight aims to do without so-called “borrowed power.” Instead, the expansion focuses on traditional content like talent trees, which are set to return for everyone. You can find everything about the contents of Dragonflight in our overview article here.

When does Dragonflight launch? The release of the new expansion is still scheduled for 2022. An exact date is yet to be announced, but many fans are discussing late November. This would also coincide with sales for the Christmas season.

Until Dragonflight is released, WoW Shadowlands will first receive one last season and at some point in the future, the Classic version of the 2nd addon Wrath of the Lich King will also be released. So there’s still a bit to do for everyone waiting for Dragonflight.

A small change is making waves in World of Warcraft. Because characters will soon no longer be just “male” or “female” during creation.

The alpha of WoW: Dragonflight is now live, and many selected individuals are already roaming the Dragon Isles and providing feedback on the new features. But alongside the major updates, like the revamped professions, the Dracthyr or dragon riding, there are also countless small changes to details. Some of these catch the eye and spark discussions, because:

Blizzard has removed the symbols for “Male” and “Female” from character creation.

What was discovered? Those creating a new character in the Dragonflight alpha will no longer see the symbols for Male and Female when selecting a race. Instead, there are 2 silhouettes of different body shapes, simply named “Body 1” and “Body 2”. The functionality behind it hasn’t changed – it still leads to the same options as before.

Why is Blizzard doing this? A while ago, the developers of World of Warcraft set the goal of offering players more options when creating their characters. The possibility for many diverse characters should be created. Therefore, in recent expansions, numerous new cosmetic adjustments have been made, such as new skin colors for humans and elves, new eye colors, or adjusted hairstyles and face shapes. All players should be able to create a character according to their wishes. This also includes a possible representation of non-binary characters.

By the way: World of Warcraft is not the first game to move away from the binary “Male/Female” designation in character creation. Other games such as Monster Hunter Rise, Halo Infinite, or Elden Ring now also refer to their body shapes neutrally.

Is there more to come? This can be assumed. Lines of code have already been found in the game data that suggest more updates are on the way. Although they are not yet implemented – and may not be – there are already hints that players can choose their character’s pronouns, meaning “he/him”, “she/her”, “them/they” in English. Should this be implemented, it would likely have little impact on the game and would only come into play in some NPC dialogues (like quest texts).

A change that is already considered confirmed, however, is expected to hit the alpha in the coming weeks: it should be possible to choose the character’s voice, which has been confirmed by Game Director Ion Hazzikostas in an interview (via wowhead). This would make it possible to give a character with a – so far – female body a male voice and vice versa.

World of Warcraft is trying to become more inclusive and introduce more options for representation – this is just another step in that direction.
