Conan Exiles is a dirty game. Brutal and bloody, true entertainment for adults. Accordingly, magic in the universe of Conan, the Barbarian, is a cruel art.
Through rituals, I can, for instance, resurrect undead servants, summon demons, or conjure weapons and armor that I can use in battle. Perfect for leading zombie armies into battle or riding into combat on an undead horse.

At an event for Guild Wars 2, we had the chance to speak in a very small group with two developers of the MMORPG. They told us how it all started back then and that a Guild Wars 2 was actually not planned at all.
During a Guild Wars event near gamescom, not only did some players come together. There was also a small roundtable for the press with the developers.
We were invited to this by MeinMMO along with two colleagues from international sites. We could talk together about the creation of Guild Wars 2. Primarily, it was about the past of the MMORPG.
In line with the 10th anniversary, the developers have gathered many memories and let us share in them. But they also talked about the future and the current Steam release. Particularly interesting was the story that Guild Wars 2 actually should not exist at all.
Who did you speak with? The roundtable was led by two long-time developers at ArenaNet.
Aaron Coberly has been with ArenaNet since 2003 and was involved as the Lead Character Artist in Guild Wars Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, and Eye of the North. Since 2017, he has been the Art Director for Guild Wars 2, primarily responsible for how the MMORPG looks today.
Bobby Stein has been working at ArenaNet since 2005 and was initially involved in the first Guild Wars as a writer. Over the years, he worked his way up to Narrative Director, a position he has held for Guild Wars 2 since 2021. He is responsible for how the story of the MMORPG continues and is told.

Guild Wars 2 was not planned but happened
What were the beginnings? Bobby Stein tells us that Guild Wars 2 was not actually planned as the MMORPG we know today. It was primarily envisioned as a new expansion for Guild Wars 1. To underscore this, he shows us early screenshots of what we now know as Lion’s Arch.
These were still in the GW1 engine, but one can already roughly see where the journey is heading. Even Shaemoor Keep, which stands in the starting area of the humans, was already finished before Guild Wars 2 even existed.
After the first areas and a rough plan of what one intended to do with “the new expansion” for Guild Wars, it became clear that the old engine could not support the existing plans. A new one was needed, and why not just make a new game? That was the birth of Guild Wars 2.
Charr as a unique feature: As a small reminder: In the first Guild Wars, you could only play as humans. These were in conflict with the feline-like Charr. As one of the first ideas, the former enemies of the humans were now chosen as a playable race.

To counteract this time-consuming task, ArenaNet deviated from the concept in GW1, where each class received its own armor. Therefore, in Guild Wars 2, there are now “only” three different armor classes for all playable classes. But it is worth it, because the Charr are still seen by ArenaNet as a unique feature and trademark of Guild Wars 2.
From the Icebrood Saga, the Charr are at the forefront of the story.
The inspiration for the MMORPG was GTA 4
A vibrant world: Besides the Charr, they needed something that would set them apart from the competition at the time. They did not want to be just another MMORPG on the market, as Bobby Stein says.
The brilliant idea actually came from GTA 4. Because there, the world just felt alive, he reports. One could walk through the streets and simply listen to dialogues. Following NPCs, experiencing their daily routines, and even overhearing them talking about trivial things contributes to the feeling of a truly vibrant world.
And exactly this feeling was wanted in Guild Wars 2, and they have succeeded. Thousands of voiced NPCs now provide a lively world in GW2, and if one wishes, they can even chase Charr children playing tag all around Lion’s Arch just to see who wins.
This vibrant world was then further brought to the forefront in Season 1 of the “Living World”, as the story events in this episode changed the entire world of the MMORPG. Lion’s Arch, the starting point of GW2 and one of the largest cities in the game, was completely destroyed by Scarlet and was inaccessible to all players for a long time.
However, since this was simply impractical for everyone who started with the game later, they deviated from this concept after Living World 1. Nevertheless, a large world remains with countless NPCs and hundreds of fully voiced quests, which also turned out to be a problem.
Scarlet changed the world in the early days of Guild Wars 2
Too much dialogue: Because this vibrant world with all its dialogues took a lot of time. In one language alone, the base game Guild Wars 2 had over 90,000 spoken lines of dialogue. This then had to be translated into several languages and re-recorded.
Especially at the beginning, this posed problems for the developers. But over time, they learned to deal with it. They even created a technical possibility that dialogues can be integrated into the gameplay.
While at the start of GW2, all dialogues took place in small cutscenes, now your player character can speak with other NPCs in the open world and even turns their head to the character that is currently speaking. A small detail for many, yet it contributes to making the entire MMORPG feel more alive. For the same reason, by the way, one can today sit on chairs in the world. This was not possible at launch.
Meanwhile, thanks to the removal of technical limitations, there are over 200,000 lines of spoken dialogue in Guild Wars 2 and its expansions. And that is only in English.
Mounts and capes were never supposed to exist
Technical limitations forbade capes: The same went for capes in Guild Wars 2 for a long time. While today hundreds of players run around with fluttering capes, that was unthinkable for the developers for a long time, Aaron says.
It was not that ArenaNet did not want capes in the game. But if they were to be brought in, they had to be good. They did not want capes that clip through mounts and armor, but a nice way to customize their characters.
Aaron kept asking whether capes were finally possible, he animatedly recounts. Until a few years ago, the technical team finally said not “no” anymore, but “You know what, I think we could actually make capes.”
A similar story occurred with the mounts, which are today one of the highlights of Guild Wars 2.

Mounts are now a highlight: Aaron also recounts at the roundtable that mounts were never supposed to exist in Guild Wars 2. They simply did not fit. And besides, the technical limitations were too great to implement mounts the way they really wanted.
With the release of Path of Fire in 2017, it finally happened. The various mounts made their way into the MMORPG five years after release. Furthermore, they were so well received by the community that they are now considered one of the main highlights of Guild Wars 2.
Even outside their own community, the mounts in GW2 are admired. They rank among the best the genre has produced and shine through various uses and maximum freedom. Each mount is useful for different situations, and none is completely useless.
Only with the latest expansion, End of Dragons, even a mount for two players was introduced into the MMORPG. One can ride the enormous battle turtle while another player shoots from its cannons. It plays just as well as it sounds.
When we asked whether the horses also succumbed to the technical limitations to this day, the developers could only laugh. So it remains a mystery where the horses in Tyria have gone.
Steam release 10 years after launch – Also for the SteamDeck
Where does Guild Wars 2 stand today? After 10 years of Guild Wars 2, the MMORPG is one of the most popular representatives of its genre in Germany. Unfortunately, it is not possible to say exactly how many people play GW2. However, according to the developers, there are over 16 million registered accounts.
For the 10th anniversary, the game was also released on Steam, but can currently only reach an average of 4,650 players there. This is also because one cannot link their old account to the Steam version.
Play GW2 on the SteamDeck: The roundtable with the developers concludes with Bobby Stein showing us that Guild Wars 2 can even be played on the SteamDeck. While it has not been officially verified yet, it works well anyway.
The community has already uploaded various control templates that can be simply downloaded and used via Steam. We were able to play GW2 for a few minutes on the SteamDeck ourselves. And thus experience the game in a whole new way. For fans of controllers who are lucky enough to have snagged a SteamDeck, this is certainly a nice opportunity to experience Guild Wars 2 in a different way.

Since August 30, 2022, Season 2 “Master of Arms” has been running in Battlefield 2042. After the game initially had a rough start and faced a lot of criticism, the community is increasingly speaking positively about the game again. Player numbers on Steam are currently on the rise.

What do players on Steam say about Battlefield 2042? The recent reviews provide insight into the current opinions of Battlefield 2042 players on Steam. Since August 30, 2022, 222 reviews have been submitted. Of those, 57% were positive (via steam, as of 31.08.2022).
In the positive reviews, several players say that the game is better now and it is worth playing again. One player, rjhess6, writes: “Much better than at launch, worth playing now”.
However, Battlefield 2042 is still criticized by some players. Goldschlange says: “It’s a really cool game, if only it wouldn’t crash all the time, that’s really bad.” Players mention technical issues as criticism or simply do not like Battlefield 2042 as a whole.
What are the current player numbers on Steam? Looking at Steam analysis websites, such as steamcharts.com, there has been a significant increase in player numbers on Steam recently.
On the site steamdb, the current upward trend can also be observed. The peak on August 30, 2022, with 17,064 players on Steam is clearly visible. This later decreased slightly. However, the current player numbers are still somewhat higher than before the release of Season 2 in Battlefield 2042.

Is it going to continue like this in Battlefield 2042? It must also be noted that the increase in player numbers, as well as the positive comments immediately after the release of Season 2, only allow for a first glimpse into the community. However, it is still uncertain whether the trend will continue to rise. Season 2 is still too new for that.

What’s new in Season 2 of Battlefield 2042? The new Season “Master of Arms” brought players some new features: On one hand, there was the new map titled “Stranded” and the former weapons dealer Charlie Crawford as a specialist.

One of the biggest winners on Twitch in 2022 is former CS:GO pro Tarik “tarik” Celik (26). Now he is making a career with Valorant following in the footsteps of the “shooter god” Michael “shroud” Grzesiek (28).
Who is he anyway?
From 2014 to 2021, tarik was a professional CS:GO player and celebrated his greatest successes with Cloud9 and Evil Geniuses
He is a Turkish-American and represented both countries at the Counter-Strike World Championships
Although tarik has been on Twitch since 2012, he really took off only after the end of his professional career in 2021
By now he has over 2 million followers there, averages 36,000 viewers – in July 2022 he even recorded a peak of 187,886 viewers (via sullygnome)
Also, tarik is on the rise, as he has just been signed by the e-sports organization Sentinels – however, not as a player
Sentinels already made waves in 2022 with the comeback of the “human aimbot” shroud. He wanted to give it one more shot at 28. You can read about how that went here.
This is how 2022 is going for tarik: After the end of his professional career in CS:GO, tarik switched to the tactical shooter Valorant, and thus exploded on Twitch. Together with his current colleague shroud, he is one of the biggest streamers of the Riot shooter.
For comparison: he streams less than half as much as xQc, the biggest streamer on Twitch, but can generate a similar influx of followers. Also compared to shroud, he is on air a bit less frequently, has only a fraction of the followers, but averages nearly the same number of viewers (via sullygnome).
This is why tarik is “the new shroud”: Some parallels are obvious. Like tarik, shroud was previously a CS:GO pro, then became a full-time streamer on Twitch and was incredibly successful there – shroud now has over 10 million followers on the streaming platform.
But the two have another commonality: As former shooter pros, they seem almost unbeatable compared to normal Twitch streamers. Shroud made a name for himself as the “human aimbot”.
On reddit, there was already discussion in 2021, when tarik’s CS:GO career was just ending, about a possible pro career in Valorant. He was simply “too good to be a content creator.” Tarik holds the highest rank in Valorant, Radiant, and is regularly found on the leaderboards.
Now tarik has also been signed by shroud’s team Sentinels, as announced by the organization on Twitter on August 30. However, tarik is not supposed to appear as an active player but rather join the “content creator” team.

tarik confirmed this in one of his streams but also said that he is available for the professional Valorant roster should he be called upon. For now, however, he is supposed to represent the organization in his streams, such as at the “Valorant Champions” starting today, August 31.
Regarding this, tarik says that he will remain himself and will not handle the team with kid gloves: “I will critically evaluate what I see and how they perform.” That should give the team “some fire” and push them even further (via YouTube).
This is why Sentinels is the right choice for tarik: Before his time in Valorant, tarik was known more as the “shirtless CS:GO streamer” (via reddit). This “meme quality” would be shared by Sentinels. Furthermore, they are very direct, which suits him.

This is why Sentinels is currently on a shopping spree: In 2022, Sentinels has already acquired 2 of the biggest Valorant streamers, and there seems to be a strategy behind this. Although shroud could not save the rather dull season and Sentinels missed the playoffs, they have big plans.
As Sentinels’ CEO, Rob Moore, stated in an interview with the American site Dot Esports, the organization is “committed to dominating Valorant as TSM and G2 did for League.” They seem to be one step closer to this goal.
From August 31 to September 18, the second edition of the “Valorant Champions” tournament will take place in Istanbul. Even though Sentinels will not be participating, the team will somehow be represented by tarik. He will be broadcasting and commenting on the tournament live on site.

In Destiny 2, the competition for the Kingsfall raid took place recently. Players from all over the world compete there in PvE for unique emblems, triumphs, and a prestigious winner’s belt. The endgame race is often streamed live. However, it has also come to light that some players have openly cheated in front of everyone. MeinMMO shows you the cheating attempt.
Cheaters are a really big problem in Destiny 2. Hardly any PvP match is not affected by it. That is also why more and more players are losing interest in the Crucible. It has long been a place where things are not fair, and this is very frustrating for honest players.
Cheating also affects you in PvE: While cheating certainly occurs in PvE in Destiny 2, it is hardly noticed here. Unless the cheaters are so brazen as to cheat live during the big world-first race in the “Kingsfall” raid, while 1000 viewers watch them.
So much damage in a short time can only be cheating.
Cheater deals 17 million damage with 30 Golden Gun shots
When the big raid race started last weekend, cheaters obviously left their Crucible habitat and ventured into the PvE endgame. After all, there was a prestigious Week 1 emblem, unique triumphs, and a big prize to be won.
Since some streams of the raid race were broadcast, many attentive viewers and other players noticed the cheating attempts.
The most conspicuous was undoubtedly an absurd video showing a player in the Kingsfall raid during the War Priest encounter. However, the clip was not recorded from the perspective of the accused player. You can clearly see from his perspective that his teammate, to his left, is obviously able to do the impossible.
After the player activates his super for the War Priest boss phase, he was able to fire a total of 30 rapid shots from his Golden Gun at the final boss.
Moreover, it can be seen from a flawed attempt in the statistics that he has dealt over 17 million damage. That’s nearly 20 times that of the entire rest of the team.

After the incident, it was clear to anyone familiar with Destiny 2: This is absolutely impossible. Viewers immediately pointed out the potential cheater in the chat and expressed their displeasure at such brazen behavior.

Attempts to explain were of no help: Apparently, the raid team had to find a replacement for a missing player. This player was apparently not willing to play fair.
Moreover, the explanations changed nothing about the fact that cheating was taking place live during an official world-first raid.
Other cheaters were also caught live: This case is by the way not an exception. In other streams, inconsistencies were also discovered during the world-first race.
There are even videos showing how the final boss Oryx takes damage without anyone actually shooting at him.

Was the raid race cheating? No. There may have been a theoretical possibility that a team with cheaters could win the official competition. However, one must also know that Bungie thoroughly reviews the runs of the winning team after the race to ensure that everything was done fairly.
In the case of the current winning team 2022 from the clan “Elysium”, Bungie has already confirmed that no one had to cheat here and their third victory in a row is therefore deserved.
Nevertheless, many players wonder why cheating and foul play are still possible in Destiny 2 even after 3 years?
Especially since the cheaters apparently not only use cheats and hacks from external providers but also the so-called net-limiting. Something that has been working in Destiny 2 for a long time and has never been addressed.
If cheaters are now not only creating insecurity in PvP but also harming the good reputation of fair top players, it is no wonder that now the Destiny 2 professionals from the most renowned clans are urging Bungie to ensure that such cheaters have no chance.
This is not a new concept but has existed for years. It has become popular again, likely due to Bungie’s measures. Additionally, the anti-cheat system of Destiny 2 apparently cannot detect it.
As several players noted, the above-mentioned cheater apparently also used net-limiting to cheat in the endgame competition of Destiny 2. Because those who cheat in PvE are, in the opinion of many gamers, only committing “a victimless crime”.
What is net-limiting exactly? Cheaters who use the so-called net-limiting intentionally slow down their internet connection. They usually use a third-party app that can only be used on a PC. Once activated, the app creates small delays in the game that do not lead to connection drops, but instead provide players with advantages, such as faster supers.
The game does not register anymore whether one has already shot their super or not. This information is not transmitted to Bungie’s servers.
With such an advantage, tough PvE content such as raids or Nightfall Strikes can be completed easily and in a short time.
This helps one to obtain raid exotics more quickly.
Furthermore, all triumph challenges become child’s play, allowing cheaters to showcase the hardest titles and emblems in no time.
