Which killer is the best? The developers of Dead by Daylight have now revealed this – and it surprises quite a few.
Within the Dead by Daylight community, there are always lively discussions about which killer is currently too strong or too weak. Typically, this information is mainly based on the feelings of the players – and hence it might be somewhat inaccurate. Because the developers have published the “kill rates” for the various killers.
This clearly shows which killer is currently ahead – regardless of all MMR levels or just among the top 5%.
What kind of information is this? In Dead by Daylight, the “kill rates” are always a topic of discussion. These rates indicate how successful killers are in their matches, measured by the deaths of survivors.
A kill rate of 50% would mean that a specific killer on average kills half of all survivors (thus 2). A higher rate means more kills, a lower rate corresponds to fewer successful kills.
The developers have published the datasets for two different groups. Once regarding all MMRs (skill rating) and once only regarding the top 5% of players.
What do the data say? Interestingly, the data differs significantly depending on whether one includes “all players” or just the top 5%. Especially the killers that force additional objectives for the survivors – namely the Zenobit, Onryo, Mastermind, Nightmare, Pig, and Plague – lead the list.
This can probably be explained by the fact that newcomers are often overwhelmed by additional tasks. Of course, anyone who has to fulfill additional objectives alongside “surviving” and “repairing generators”, like disarming traps, solving a puzzle box, or waking up from the nightmare, is likely to make more mistakes.
In the “top 5%”, the latest killer “The Mastermind” dominates with 65%, closely followed by the Plague (63%) and the Dredge (62%). Not surprisingly, the Trapper, who is essentially the flagship of Dead by Daylight, ends up in a disappointing last place.
His traps are simply too ineffective against experienced players, and he takes far too much time just to set the traps in position.
What does that indicate? Generally, the data provides good indicators of where various killers currently stand, but it also shows some amusing peculiarities.
It is noteworthy that the Nurse scores the lowest in terms of her overall rating by far. Across all MMR boundaries, she is the least successful killer, with a kill rate of “only” 52%. And this is despite the fact that the Nurse is generally considered the best killer.
However, she is also particularly difficult to master, but once you do master her, she can impale survivors in seconds.
So who is now “the best” killer? Overall, it is undoubtedly the Mastermind (“Wesker”) who leads the rankings across all evaluations and also among the top 5%, with a kill rate of 63% and 65%.
However, many players still debate whether the Nurse should actually be at the top of this table. Because in the hands of a highly skilled killer, the Nurse remains very dominant and deserves a better ranking.
