Blizzard shows no mercy to players. In World of Warcraft Dragonflight, you must face an old evil that still causes sleepless nights.
There are now thousands of quests in World of Warcraft. Most of them just pass by, being well-known gathering and killing quests. Other missions with epic stories remain memorable for longer. But only the most annoying of all quests burn themselves into memory and are collectively greeted by players with an exasperated groan.
Blizzard makes a joke out of this in Dragonflight and brings back one of the most exhausting NPCs of all time – who apparently has not learned from his mistakes: Khadgar’s servant is roaming in Valdrakken.
What does this refer to? The NPC “Khadgar’s improved servant” is an evolution of “Khadgar’s servant.” Those who played back in the days of “The Burning Crusade” might now feel the cold sweat of post-traumatic stress on their forehead. Because in the questline “City of Light,” you had to follow one of Khadgar’s elementals in Shattrath back then. He calmly guided you through the city, occasionally explaining things about the various factions and locations. This tour lasted several minutes.
Those who thought back then: “I won’t put myself through this nonsense” and simply went afk during the quest found upon their return that the quest was not completed. Because if you did not follow the elemental every step of the way, there was no quest progress, and you had to repeat the mission. Simply “skipping” was not an option either because back then the quest was practically mandatory if you wanted to unlock more quests in Shattrath.
“City of Light” remains one of the most hated quests to this day and a reason why many players have still not forgiven Khadgar and his elemental.
Where can you find Khadgar’s servant? In Valdrakken, the new capital in Dragonflight, you can encounter “Khadgar’s servant” once again starting in November. He will then be giving tours of the city and will be accompanied by 4 “visiting mages” who will comment on every (very slow) step of the elemental. Apparently, these mages have also had contact with Khadgar’s servants. They say things like:
- “Can we not go any faster?”
- “Why is this thing so slow?”
- “Khadgar thinks he’s funny, doesn’t he?”
- “That brings back memories. Not good ones, but memories.”
At least players in Dragonflight have a clear advantage: They can choose to follow Khadgar’s servant of their own free will and don’t have to do so because a quest forces them to – unlike the 4 NPC mages.
Basically, it seems Blizzard is bringing back a lot of the old humor in Dragonflight. Because even a particularly suggestive author is giving readings with sexy novel texts…
