“We learned a lot from Odyssey”
MeinMMO: Odyssey received some good reviews, but also players who did not like the new features or had performance issues. What did you learn from that for Aftermath?
Luke Betterton: Ultimately, we underestimated the issues that some players would have with the Odyssey launch. We knew we had to improve it, and that’s exactly what we have been doing for the last 16 months: enhancing the player experience in Odyssey with updates for performance, UI, and many other features, not to mention the added gameplay experiences like the interiors of fleet carriers. We have significantly improved the Odyssey experience since launch and learned a lot from it.
What you will see in the game with Aftermath in future updates for Elite Dangerous is more focus on narrative and gameplay features that support the story we are telling. We are now focused on expanding the overall gameplay of Elite Dangerous as part of this larger story arc in the game. We are looking for new ways to excite our players. What you saw in Update 13 was really just the beginning. We are looking forward to what will come with the next Update 14 and beyond.

Luke Betterton: With Update 13, you saw the ideal version of how players should experience the narrative of Elite Dangerous. They could log in after the Proteus wave was activated, see it in the cinematic, and then discover the aftermath in HIP 22460 themselves – with countless destroyed ships and the Thargoids aggressively attacking everything.
This is our perfect version of a major story moment in Elite: we are trying to show more than tell, and we want the gameplay experience to change based on the twists and turns of the narrative. We are very proud of what we achieved in Update 13 and we definitely want more of that in the future.

Luke Betterton: It’s too early to go into detail here, but how players collaborate in Elite Dangerous is extremely important for any contest that comes into the game over the next year.

Luke Betterton: It’s true that Elite Dangerous has been around for a while. But it’s too early to discuss anything beyond 2023. Right now, Aftermath is about the Thargoid crisis. Expect this to reach its next level in Update 14, which will be another significant moment in the narrative. We have already seen Thargoids behave like never before. The narrative is a key point for Elite Dangerous in 2023 – with the Thargoids at its heart.
Otherwise, we already revealed in May that we are planning a major overhaul for 2023. This is still in progress and we want to share more about it next year.
An apocalypse is an interesting thesis. We would never reveal what will happen in the story of Elite Dangerous next year. We want players to discover that in the game itself. However, community theories about what will happen next are exciting. As we pay close attention to our players and their reactions, it sometimes allows us to subvert expectations as we plan the plot of our story.
MeinMMO: Are you planning to resume console support?
Luke Betterton: We understand that console players are disappointed with the decision to halt Odyssey development for those platforms and focus on PC development. This decision was made with the intention of allocating resources appropriately to support Elite Dangerous on PC for the long term. We cannot share anything else regarding Elite Dangerous on consoles with you.
However, we should mention that the Console Copy Portal was designed to help console players join us on PC when they can. This initiative exists to provide console players with a relatively easy way to enjoy the future of Elite on PC without additional costs. We are already seeing large numbers of players making the transition. We recognize that this is not the same as further support for consoles, but it was very important to us to clarify that.

War of Dragnorox is a new indie MMORPG for PC that focuses primarily on PvE content. The special twist lies in special “Dungeon Masters” who can independently start events and intervene in gameplay.
What kind of MMORPG is this? War of Dragnorox describes itself as an “Old School Sandbox MMORPG”, with a clear emphasis on PvE. At launch, there will be an open world with 30 areas, dangerous monsters, and 19 different raids. Good endgame content is particularly important to the developers.
They emphasize that their game world is supposed to become very dynamic:
No day or dungeon run should feel like the previous one. The reason for this is the Dungeon Master, who is a fixed part of the development team.

What has happened since the announcement? In December 2021, War of Dragnorox was presented to the public. Since then, the developers have discussed various adjustments through new blog posts and interviews.
A significant change was the move to Unreal Engine 5 in August 2022. This is supposed to make the MMORPG run smoother and look nicer than it did in the first trailer.
In July, the developers also overhauled the death system. There is now supposed to be a new way of resurrection. Overall, War of Dragonox is meant to be brutal but fair concerning death. More detailed information will follow later.

In the presentation, the developers explained more about Minecraft Legends. Legends aims to be an “action-strategy game” that places little emphasis on the actual action. At least, as far as the player is concerned.
As the hero, you command an army of golems and befriend the inhabitants of Minecraft’s “Overworld” so that they will help you. Even the otherwise dangerous creepers become friends (via GameStar). Because the nasty piglins are attacking from the Nether and want to destroy everything.
So, you gather troops of different types and destroy the bases of the pig creatures by issuing commands from the field as the commander. This is how Minecraft Legends envisions the connection between strategy and action.

At the same time, the story will be an important aspect of the game. It is meant to tell the “legend”, the heroic bedtime story that is read to the children in the world of Minecraft.

For just 30 euros, I was able to not only improve our now rather old TV affordably but also save a few euros on electricity costs per month. At least the second reason might appeal to some of you.
A TV stick for 30 euros makes everyday life much more pleasant
What’s the problem? We use a roughly 9-year-old TV in our household. For most purposes, the device is still completely sufficient, as you can connect the Switch or the PS5 without any issues. It is also enough for a cozy movie night.
However, watching series becomes a bit difficult. Because the Samsung model offers hardly any “smart” features. You can use a Netflix app, but the performance is abysmal, and the video regularly cuts out. Additionally, the TV’s hardware is now somewhat slow.
Given current prices, I didn’t want to invest several thousand euros in a new TV. An interim solution for a few hundred euros was out of the question because it wouldn’t have been worth it.
What was the solution? The simpler and cheaper option was actually a streaming TV stick. These devices are slightly larger than a USB stick and connect to the TV via HDMI. The setup is no more complicated than logging into Netflix on a PS5 or on your mobile phone.
I bought a “Fire TV Stick 4K” on sale. At the time, it was available for under 30 euros.

Slowly but surely, time is running out in the Shadowlands. And while many World of Warcraft heroes can’t wait to dive into the new expansion “Dragonflight”, some still have a long “To Do” list. Collections need to be completed, or mounts need to be acquired before Shadowlands fades into oblivion.
We’re showing you 5 things you should accomplish before Dragonflight starts – because it won’t be possible or it will be much harder afterward.
1. Unlock Covenant Rewards
No matter what you think of Shadowlands, at least the Covenants were packed with all sorts of rewards. From toys to mountains of transmog to really cool mounts, all collectors should get their fill.
In total, you need several million Anima and numerous other Covenant resources for all the rewards, which you primarily unlock through daily and weekly quests, treasures, and special Covenant features.
There’s a lot to do with the Covenants…
Basically, the Covenants will still exist, and you can still collect the rewards afterward. But for those who have some time to kill right now, you can still farm the necessary Anima to grab the last rewards.
Because who wants to return to the Shadowlands later if they don’t have to?
