Gold is one of the most important resources in Diablo 4 and especially in the endgame, you will need to spend quite a lot of it for item upgrades. We will show you which items you can easily sell later in the game to replenish your gold supply.
If you want to upgrade or enchant your equipment in the endgame, you can quickly spend a few million of your precious gold at the vendors. The same goes for repairs. But luckily, there is plenty of stuff in Diablo 4 that you can easily sell.

Equipment you cannot use
Probably everyone who plays Diablo 4 knows the phenomenon. You kill a few monsters, open your inventory in joyful anticipation of good loot, and notice crossed-out items. You have received items for a different class.
You can keep them if you also play that class – or want to. However, you will likely find something equivalent while playing with that class anyway.
Therefore, you can simply sell them, because especially higher-level items will bring you a good amount of gold. A two-handed sword at level 94 has brought me over 27,000 gold.
Items that are not suitable for your class are marked with a red cross
Equipment that does not fit your build
It may happen that you receive items that have a high level and good stats, but do not benefit you. For example, because they simply do not fit your build or you need other stats more. An item that gives you +2 levels on a certain skill is not bad, but it won’t help you if you don’t play that skill at all.
You should only keep it if the other skills fit well with your build and you can change the one non-needed affix through enchanting. You can find the best builds in our tier list:
Magical items, or “blue” items, can be sold without hesitation – if you even pick them up. The same goes for white items. Usually, it happens in the later stages of the game that you find way too many “yellow” items and legendaries, and sooner or later, you will kick the magical items out of your inventory.
It may well be that during your gameplay, you receive so many materials that you do not need any new ones or can no longer pick them up. Therefore, if you have equipment items in your chest or inventory that are no longer needed but are upgraded, it is worth selling them.
A legendary amulet at level 86 can easily bring you about 66,000 gold. While that doesn’t reach the costs you paid for the amulet during upgrading, it’s better than nothing.
Uniques have an extremely high value. Whether you want to sell them or keep them, you should think carefully, as some are only obtained rarely. Selling an amulet of level 79 with the designation “Vermacht” gives you 248,000 gold. For a “Vermacht” unique bow at level 88, you even get a juicy 446,600 gold.
Unique items are sometimes strong, but often simply do not fit your build. You will likely never be able to use most of them. So do not hesitate to sell them.

With the space bar, the X (Xbox controller), or the square (PlayStation controller), you can mark the items in the inventory as junk and sell them all at once at the vendor. Even small items like gems.

The Steam Summer Sale currently attracts numerous offers. Among the games is a special gem called Eville, with which MeinMMO author Jasmin Beverungen has had entirely new experiences. How does Eville play? Since the end of last year, the multiplayer social deduction game Eville has been on the market. You can imagine the title similarly to the “Werewolves” game: A group of innocent villagers is infiltrated by conspirators and must unmask who among them counts as the villains over several rounds.
There is a day and night rhythm. During the day, the villagers pursue certain tasks, set traps, or brew potions to protect themselves from the criminals. Each villager has their own house to retreat to at night.
If you are a criminal yourself, you must eliminate one of the villagers every night. For this, you sneak into the houses of the mostly sleeping villagers and kill them if possible. The next day, it will be decided which player has behaved the most suspiciously and will consequently be burned.
Who is the villain?
At the beginning of each round, you will be assigned a random role. If you are assigned to the villagers’ side, you can help with the investigation using a special gift. The seer, for example, can set magical traps that function like a kind of surveillance camera.
Due to the different roles and potions, which for example allow you to stay awake at night, no round plays out like the other. But besides the varied gameplay, it was mainly the community that convinced me.
What did I particularly like about Eville? Before you start a round, you can decide in which language you want to play the title. If you choose the English community, you have a larger selection of lobbies. However, I consciously decided to play the game in German and did not regret it.
Because the German community was smaller, you were randomly thrown together with people you had already played with over several evenings. This led to some insider jokes within the group and small friendships developing.

The bond was partly due to the game functioning with voice chat. For shy individuals, it is also possible to only use the chat. However, especially through the voice chat, one felt “more connected” to the other players and could tell more jokes than in chat.
Thanks to the friend function, I was eventually able to add people and consciously arrange new dates for game rounds with them. The people were very reliable, and so we became a gaming group. A particularly groundbreaking experience showed me how much I could rely on the group.
Eville has brought our group together
In one round, suddenly an English-speaking person wandered into our group. We welcomed the stranger kindly and switched to English for him so he could follow what was happening.
However, it quickly became clear that the person had no good intentions: I had prepared for the upcoming night in my house. There I brewed a potion that allowed me to stay awake at night. This way, I could escape potential murderers and protect myself for another night.
At night, the murderers come.
But the new player also came into my house. After a brief “Hi” and “How are you?” it quickly became clear what the stranger was aiming for: He suddenly began calling me “Baby” and saying suggestive things.
When I then ran out of the house and confided in others from the group, we decided to immediately vote out, report, and block the English-speaking person, regardless of what role the player actually had.
In his anger, the player threw things at us related to our German origin that I would rather not repeat here. So far, I have never felt as vulnerable and protected in a video game as I did in Eville. I would never have thought that before installing the game.
The group could have simply ignored the incident or not taken my concerns seriously. Thus, what remains in my memory about Eville is primarily the great community (aside from that one exception).
The sad thing about the story: Unfortunately, our group has since dissolved, and we are enjoying ourselves in other games. I still think often about the incident and what might have become of the group. Because I have rarely seen such friendly people in a game.

Hardly any game makes you feel like the real villain. MeinMMO editor Leya Jankowski believes that Baldur’s Gate 3 can fulfill that fantasy. She spoke with lead developer Swen Vincke about how to take the ultimately evil path in his role-playing game.
It’s a hot day in Belgium (Ghent) and I just played the latest version of Baldur’s Gate 3. I am visiting Larian Studios, who will release one of the most anticipated role-playing games of the last few years in August. The game will be released for PC in August, a month earlier than planned.
During my visit, the developers announce the latest “Origin” character. These are pre-made characters that you can play as an alternative to your own character. Origins have their own story that you will uncover throughout the game.
The Dark Urge is his name, which translates to “The Dark Urge.” With him, you play a crazy, bloodthirsty murderer.
I start to think about the ultimate villain and how Baldur’s Gate 3 gives you the opportunity to live out that dark fantasy. There are not many games out there that truly allow you to do that.
As I am led to my interview with Swen and he sits peacefully on a park bench with a friendly smile, the perfect moment has come for me to ask him about the ultimate evil guide for his game.
Always follow the dark urge
MeinMMO: I think Baldur’s Gate 3 is a really good game to play an extremely evil character. In your presentation, you did many evil things, like murdering a child or sacrificing parts of your group for an absurd plan. I think you’re exactly the right person to give me tips on how to play the ultra-evil character in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Swen Vincke: If you want to be the ultimate evil character, I would recommend playing The Dark Urge and following its impulse. Every time you have the choice to follow its dark thoughts, you do just that. Then you’ll be truly evil.
MeinMMO: What should I be aware of when making decisions? What does it entail to follow a dark path?
Swen Vincke: You gain great power when you follow the dark urge. I don’t want to give too much away, but your urge is connected to something very evil. You will often be prompted to do things that are very evil, and if you follow that, your power grows very quickly. But you will be very lonely and end up alone.
MeinMMO: One of your colleagues told me that you end up alone if you follow the dark path. Where did that idea come from?
Swen Vincke: When you deal with people who are evil and have a lot of power, everyone wants that power. Eventually, you have to get rid of them all.
MeinMMO: Aren’t there any companions who are more on the evil side that you can take with you?
Swen Vincke: Absolutely, you can take evil companions with you. But you must give them something. So if you want to play evil, you have to get rid of any competition.
If you take a companion with you, you have to trust them to a certain extent. So I would kill them all. Then I would become an evil god, which is possible. I would kill everyone at the first opportunity so that I don’t have to deal with them.
MeinMMO: Wait, you can become an evil god?
Swen Vincke: Without giving too much away, yes, you gain divine powers.

Few want to be the villain
MeinMMO: Why do you think there are so few games that truly let you be evil?
Swen Vincke: It’s a lot of work. We have it in the game because it was important to us that you really get a choice. Every decision needs to lead somewhere.
Statistically, most people don’t play evil anyway. If 95% of your target audience plays good and only 5% play evil, then it’s hardly worth the effort. But even if it’s just a few, I believe it’s important to have a choice, because otherwise your decisions are worthless.
MeinMMO: Do you have data from Early Access on what players tended to do?
Swen Vincke: I prefer not to look at that data, because otherwise it would influence my decisions. We have things in there that are incredibly expensive and only 0.00001% will see them, but that’s how I want the game to be.
MeinMMO: Why is it so difficult to implement an evil path? It has to feel evil when you do something and not many games can manage that.
Swen Vincke: You need motivation to be evil or good, you need a reason to be somewhere in between. We’re dealing with around 170 hours of cinematics in the game, just to cater to different choices. You will never see all of that, it’s impossible. We also don’t want you to see all of it.
A good villain story needs a reason
MeinMMO: What do you personally believe makes a good villain story?
Swen Vincke: A reason to be a villain. So why are you on this path?
At the beginning of the game, you meet some refugees and you decide their fate. You can leave them behind or kill them to infiltrate an evil cult. If you take the murderous path, you meet a woman, a Drow, her name is Minthara and you can sleep with her.
You meet her again later, and she has fallen out of favor with the cult. Now you can choose again to kill her or save her by helping her escape. She will then become your companion.
She tells you that she has done evil things because she was part of the cult and followed it. She then asks you why you did all these evil things, what your reason was. Why did you kill all these people? I was controlled, you weren’t. So why?
And now you can decide what your motivation was and state it. That’s a really good moment when she asks you that. You also get many interesting answers to choose from.
MeinMMO: That’s really clever. When I watched your gameplay presentation, something struck me. When I think of an evil person, the first thing that pops into my head is that I just run around and kill everyone. But in Baldur’s Gate 3, being evil has a lot to do with manipulation, which I find interesting.
Swen Vincke: There are two major themes in the game, one of them is trust. Trust is important to us because the game runs on a group dynamic. It’s basically a group of people who have come together for a reason. They share the common problem of having a parasite in their heads that they need to get rid of.
And when dealing with a group of people traveling together, they need to trust each other. So we put them in various scenarios and gave them backstories where they directly distrust each other. There are ways for them to trust each other and get along so well that a certain degree of manipulation is okay. But there’s also the other side, where they distrust each other.
Everyone has their secrets. In the game, you can read their thoughts to find out what their desires and secrets are. That’s something you shouldn’t do morally. And if they find out, that can be the reason they attack you or leave your group.
But you can get away with it if you want to go down the evil path. The fact that trust is so important makes this evil storytelling possible.

Why the release was moved up
MeinMMO: You decided to move the release up. Why did you do that? Most studios say they will be late, especially during the pandemic.
Swen Vincke: There were several reasons for that. One of them was that we had to decide whether to release on all platforms simultaneously. That was initially our goal. In that case, we would have had to push the release back further.
We didn’t want that because we have been working on the game for 6 years. On the PC, it’s almost finished. So we said to ourselves that if we split the release, we can release the PC first.
It’s a pretty crowded season, many games are being released. Many will be screaming for attention. Early August is still relatively free, we can position ourselves with the PC version then. And then we’ll push the PS5 version back a bit because it needs a bit more work.
That also eased the pressure from our team because now we can do one thing at a time. First PC, then console. If we had pushed it back, it would have been at the end of the year, and we didn’t want that.
MeinMMO: Are there specific games you wanted to avoid? I mean Starfield, of course.
Swen Vincke: I was just about to say if you want to ask me about Starfield. So this year we had: Zelda, Diablo, Starfield, the new Cyberpunk and we haven’t even reached the end of October yet. If August is our month, I’m happy.

What kind of game is this? Reign of Guilds is an old school MMORPG with a large medieval world combined with fantasy elements like magic. The focus is on the conflicts between the guilds, but there should be plenty to do outside of that.
At the beginning, you create a character without a class and can distribute the first attribute points as you wish. Later, you will have the opportunity to specialize in one of 14 “mini-classes”.
It relies on an action combat system where you need to aim actively. There will be no tab targeting like in WoW.
Crafting plays an important role, as items lose strength over time due to wear. Therefore, you need to continuously create new equipment.
For PvE fans, there will be dungeons and world bosses. There is also player housing for every type of player.
However, the main focus is on PvP. You can conquer one of 60 fortresses, rise to become the lord of one of the 14 counties, or take the role of king. The king rules the entire world, collects taxes, but can also be overthrown.
The game also features guild wars with up to 150 participants. In most zones of the game world, there is also open PvP, with an especially interesting karma system.
Those who only eliminate “evil” enemies will be crowned as saints. They do not need to fear penalties and even receive discounts from merchants. However, those who attack helpless victims outside their level range will become “psychos”. They lose a part of their equipment and experience points when killed. Furthermore, from a certain point on, merchants will no longer want to speak with them.

Reign of Guilds – Update Trailer
Free playtest on Steam runs until July 17
What is this test? Currently, the fourth playtest for Reign of Guilds is running on Steam. It runs until July 17 at 9:00 PM and is completely free to play.
To participate, you only have to visit the Steam page and request access for the playtest there. You will receive it immediately and can start downloading right away.
The test includes the tutorial, the first 2 of 14 counties, and the guild battles for them. Compared to the last test in April, the control system, adjustments to the AI, and new abilities have been introduced to the game. Another county was also planned, but it was not finished in time.
What happens next? Before the early access, several adjustments are planned, including marketplaces, two more counties, underground mechanics in the form of mines and caves, and the implementation of Easy Anti Cheat. When exactly early access will start is not yet known.
Currently, Reign of Guilds is noticeably behind schedule. The original release for early access was planned for 2021.
What payment system does Reign of Guilds use? The MMORPG will be a pay2play title. You will have to purchase it once and then also subscribe to play it.
In return, it completely forgoes direct pay2win, but also “indirect pay2win”. By this, the developers mean certain premium features like buffs, which are often referred to as pay2progress.

In the current Season 21 of Destiny 2, players are facing a new challenge to obtain the exotic scout rifle “Malevolent Tool.” And it is truly malevolent.

Two things have changed in week 5: On one hand, we received a new fishing quest. Bungie also pointed this out in the new TWiD (“This Week in Destiny” blog), with the tip: “Remember, you have to catch them all.
On the other hand, new exotic fish have entered the game, which drop a strange item for you.
After visiting Hawthorne in the Tower, she tells you about a strange event with exotic fish and hands you the quest “Fishing Trip: Throne World.”.

The quest consists of 6 steps, and you need to fish a lot to reach Platinum.
Different fish qualities grant progress at different rates.
In total, you need 600 points:
An Exo fish brings 20 points, a Legendary fish 5, a Rare fish 2, and an Uncommon fish 1 point.
To drop the quest, you need to reach week 5 in the seasonal story.
Once you’ve done that, you can return to Hawthorne in the Tower and collect your reward. But don’t get your hopes up too early, as you won’t receive the new Exotic there. Rather, you can choose between two Legendary rewards.
Still, both may be related. Bungie may have tried to ensure with the quest that you fish for everything to uncover the mystery, and that enough Guardians are fishing with you to progress better.
Because you need at least one Exo fish in your inventory to turn it in at the aquarium in the H.E.L.M., triggering the mystery.
Note: The Hawthorne quest is not strictly necessary to obtain the scout rifle “Malevolent Tool” and the Exo fish. You can also proceed without it.
So, if you’re currently avoiding the boring activity of fishing in Season 21, you’ll probably need to cast your line for the Exo again. Whether with or without the quest likely doesn’t matter.
Catch an Exo fish: If you start in the Throne World,you need to reel in the new Exo fish “Whispering Moth Carp,” which Bungie has now released.
The fish drop is random. So you might be lucky and have it on the line right away. Or you might have to stand around fishing for a long time.
“Concentrated Fishing” and “Perfect Catch” do help to at least slightly improve your catch chances.

We can’t complain this week, as we had the loot god on our side and managed to complete the task in about 20 minutes. Other Guardians, like Paul Tassi, had less luck and needed 40 minutes plus 90 bait.
However, next week, you’ll probably have to invest time in fishing again, so only true fishing enthusiasts will likely find enjoyment in it.

Step 2 is a bit easier: Once you receive the Exo fish, fly back to the H.E.L.M. Turn it in there as usual at the aquarium terminal.
That the blade drops for you is not only seen when turning in the fish, see our screenshot as well. You will also find the item in your inventory with your fishing gear. If it is there, you can start the diving mission.

Besides the usual Exos and a few materials, you will also get the item “Broken Blade of the Strife.” With this, you will now proceed to the diving mission of Season 21. You can also start it via the H.E.L.M.
Deliver the broken sword in the diving mission: Attentive Guardians will have already noticed the three different Taken statues, as seen in the latest dungeon “Ghosts of the Depth”.
So far, they had no function. With the item “Broken Blade of the Strife” in your possession, you can now interact with them.

The second statue can be found in the first encounter of the dive, right next to the spot where you place the Egregore Resonator. Take a look around, then you’ll see a door leading to a room on your left.
The third statue can then be found after the first encounter in the second part of the underwater sections.

What can the Exo Scout Rifle “Malevolent Tool” do?
For many Guardians, this sounded very tempting: As YouTuber Redrix reports about datamining, the weapon is said to be an exotic Stasis scout rifle. A catalyst will also be available.
Exo Perk: Precision hits while “Creeping Weariness” is active create a Stasis Shard that returns to you.

Instructor Celia Pearce teaches Game Design at Northeastern University in Boston and has been addressing issues that older players face for years.
What problems do older players have? One issue is controllers that are sometimes hard to operate, especially for people with acute or permanent injuries or arthritis. Another issue is the small font sizes in games.
“I always tell my students, please use larger fonts, no one over 30 can read a font size of 0.5,” says Celia Pearce (via Marketplace). Pearce is part of the research group “Games for Life” and wants to bridge the gap between the gaming industry and the needs of older players.
AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) has highlighted in a research report that older players feel disadvantaged and rarely find games that are suitable for them (via PDF: AARP).
“Playing is a healthy part of aging”
What do older players wish for? According to AARP, for many, the tutorial often presents a hurdle. The instructions should be made clearer and more readable. Many older gamers also play on mobile devices, while others prefer PCs or consoles. There is a demand for more cross-platform games.
Maura White is the director of games and their community at AARP. She says that meaningful gaming is a healthy part of aging. Playing can “reduce stress, challenge you mentally, connect you with others, and simply be fun.” It also provides an opportunity to engage more with technology (via blog.aarp.com).
Additionally, while older players want to stay mentally fit, they also look for “ways to connect with other people through games,” says Kenny Rosenblatt (via Marketplace). Rosenblatt is the CEO of Arkadium, a developer of casual games.

How are the developers proceeding? Ubisoft wants to promote fair play in Rainbow Six Siege. Thus, they “punish” players who connect mouse and keyboard to their consoles, the so-called “spoofers,” with annoying lags.
On the Ubisoft website, they write:
MouseTrap is a new detection system that punishes the use of mouse and keyboard on consoles by adding extra [lags] for players who are detected and encourages them to use their controller again. Our goal is to restore true balance between competition and skill to improve fair play in Rainbow Six Siege.
Ubisoft does not want to directly ban the “spoofers,” but to give them a chance to “change their behavior and play fair.” Successfully.
What were the consequences? According to Ubisoft, this resulted in a reduction of the total number of mouse and keyboard users by 78%. In the ranked mode, it is at 73% (via Ubisoft.com). This exceeded their expectations.

Who are the new characters? Blade is a 5-star character on the path of destruction and the combat type Wind. He belongs to the Stellaron Hunters and was once immortal. MeinMMO author Dariusz Müller bought a Nintendo Switch for the release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet after much hesitation. He is completely satisfied with the console so far, but has not yet warmed up to the Joy-Cons. Now he has discovered a way to use his Xbox controller on the Switch and is almost always thrilled.
The Joy-Cons of the Nintendo Switch are okay. In handheld mode, they mostly serve their purpose, but nothing more. For use on a monitor or TV, there are alternatives like the Xbox controller, which I like much better. Additionally, I have a few PS4 controllers lying around.
At some point, I thought there must be a way to use PS4 or Xbox controllers on the Switch. I like both much better than the Joy-Cons, and I don’t have to spend another around €60 for a Switch Pro controller, even though I already own numerous controllers.
The solution: a small device for under €30
I discovered a small USB stick called the 8BitDo USB Wireless Adapter 2, with which I can establish a connection between the Nintendo Switch and my Xbox controller. The DualShocks of the PS4 work just as well, but mine are significantly more battered and thus went back to the shelf after the short test.

I simply plug the stick into the Switch and build a wireless connection to the controller I wish to use. If you have a controller that cannot be used wirelessly, that’s not a problem either, as the Switch has two USB ports. Just plug the 8BitDo into one and your controller’s cable into the other.
However, it should be mentioned that the stick is unnecessarily wide. It’s possible that the cable and stick may get a little in each other’s way. In my case, it didn’t cause any problems with the wired connection, but it’s still annoying.
The use of two 8BitDo USB adapters and thus two Xbox controllers is unfortunately ruled out, because both are too thick to fit side by side. I haven’t tested whether a USB hub can remedy this.
Effortless gaming experience, aside from specific exceptions
In most games I play, I haven’t felt a disadvantage with the 8BitDo adapter or my Xbox controller. The buttons worked flawlessly and the connection remained consistent.
Games like Pokémon Scarlet and Legends: Arceus were playable without issues with the Xbox controller. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the MOBA Pokémon Unite also posed no problems.
However, there are also games like Splatoon 3, where I unfortunately cannot use the Xbox controller. In Splatoon, the motion controls of the Joy-Cons are very important – here the Xbox controller unfortunately has to fit, since it lacks gyro sensors.
In some games, the absence of motion controls is noticeable, but only bothersome if you prefer them over stick controls. In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, for example, you can use motion controls to solve puzzles with the “Ultrahand” ability or to overcome obstacles.
In Mario Kart, the loss of motion control also means losing the ability to steer the karts like with a steering wheel. However, both Mario Kart and Zelda can also be played easily with the sticks of the Xbox controller.

Why even an alternative to the Joy-Cons?
I have my problems with some aspects of the Joy-Cons. The sticks are unfortunately really not good, as the rubber wears out quickly and the well-known stick drift problem persists – even though Nintendo now offers free repairs for the Joy-Cons.
Furthermore, I find the very flat design of the Joy-Cons quite unhandy. A rounded shape on the underside, like that of most controllers and also the Steam Deck, is completely missing.
The flat underside can be somewhat improved with the included Joy-Con holder, but in my opinion, that’s still not ideal.
The shape still does not feel ergonomic, the holder is barely large enough even for my small hands, and the suboptimal placement of the lower trigger buttons (ZL and ZR) is not improved by this. They could be spaced a bit farther from the upper triggers for me.

“I never auditioned for Loki”
Tom Hiddleston auditions for the first Thor movie in 2009. At the time, the actor cannot even begin to guess what the project would later mean for his career: “I thought I would be auditioning for a [normal] film. An interesting role in an interesting movie.”

However, the actor does not audition for the role of the villain Loki, but for that of the main character: superhero and God of Thunder Thor.

The defeat and disqualification had severe consequences:
